2 Biker Girls' First, Long Ride... Not What You Want to See

  • Not what you hope new riders ever see on the road... I've been wanting to take Hao and Kristen, two new biker girls, on their first mountain ride. With Hao mostly at neighborhood practice stage, and Kristen recently starting to commute at least once a week on her bike, this would be the longest ride either of them had done yet. To a first time canyon chaser, the twisties of the mountains can be quite scary. I hope what we saw towards the end of the day didn't scare them from riding, but rather a reminder to ride defensively, practice your skills, and wear your gear. Both ladies were on Yamaha MT03's. I was on the Triumph Tiger 660, a loan from Triumph, as one of the many bikes I have been borrowing to find a more road trip friendly bike.
I met Hao when I rented her bike off of Rider's Share

If you missed my live stream a few days ago - I packed the first bit of it with announcements so be sure to check it out- I mentioned there I’ll only be responding to comments on videos the first day now! Please understand it’s a decision for mental health. Internet growth has been great this year, but with it… well you know what comes. DM me on Insta or email me if I missed your comment and you wanted to chat! 😋❤️

I am so happy to see women riding and not being passengers on someone else's adventure. My wife got her own bike about 10 years ago and is having a blast.
One morning getting coffee before we hit the road a little girl was staring at my wife. She finally got the nerve to come up and ask about all her riding gear. She got to sit on our bikes and it made her day. She thought it was so cool that a girl could have her own bike. Hopefully, we helped water an adventurous seed that will continue to grow!

Good hopes for Kristen. I've been a motorcycle mechanic since 1969. It's a very rewarding career. Seeing customers ride off with big smiles is the greatest reward ever!! My riding group has been stopping at "The Spot" on Richard Russell since the late Seventies or early Eighties. Too long ago to remember the first time we discovered it. Been riding the North Georgia mountains, Tennessee, and North Carolina since the early Seventies and started in the Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia mountains in 1969. I LOVE MOUNTAIN ROADS!!!!!!!!!!

I've ridden a lot of miles on bike and in few places like Chicago , Dallas Texas , Miami Orlando and the Gulf Coast in Floida . But , I honestly don't remember ever seeing a motorcycle wreck . Maybe I have forgotten but I can't believe I would . One thing I would add is you can't ride with anyone in a small or large group and be overly concerned for them it can cause you to do the wrong thing . I think that came from my racing days . You always have to make your direction priority one or you can cause a bigger wreck or another one . Racing is nothing like street riding . I watched a video of guy who thought he could do pretty good in a sanctioned Road Race on on a Kawasaki H1 even though had no race experience . He learned going fast with seasoned racers is not the same as going fast on some twisty roads with adrenaline junkies on powerful bikes . That's why a lot of canyon carvers end up with mangled bikes or worse . I know I'm spitting in the wind with some folks . But for those who have a brain and are like me ( raced on tracks ) and did not trash perfectly good bikes or became organ donors . Ride smart ...live a long time and do your racing on a track with everybody going the same direction . Hey if get good you can win trophies 🏆 and even money . PK

Great video Doodle. The cold out in the country/mountains gets me every time. I ride in the country near a large river and I can feel the temp drop as soon as I get in the woods. When I'm back to the city it's at least 10 degrees warmer lol It looks like Hao's helmet is a bit too big for her. I made the same mistake when I first started riding. Gives her an excuse to upgrade to an Arai 😁

Glad to see you have a few buddies to ride with. Sorry to see the accident but they happen. Please don't dwell on these. If you ride safely, you should be fine. Your videos are FAB!!!!

No one is an expert beginning to ride. It takes time on the road to build up experience. As far as the accident. No matter what you drive or ride, you have to be alert especially in places with a lot of traffic. Ride Safe and Ride Often.

Doodle when you pulled up with your camera swaying, my mind just thought of Mary Poppins, and the spoonful of sugar song came to mind because your such a dang ol sweetheart. I clicked because i knew there was going to be some form of 🌤.. and i was not disappointed, we need more of this in this world..
although a scantly clad biker chick randomly popping up in one video i won't get too upset 😅 im kidding.
Im almost 90 % positive you and Cody must have been former ninjas in your past lifes.. 😄. Your a great Ambassador Carolyn keep shining your little light 🙌🏾🙏🏾

    Hello:
2 things. Your friend needs a pinlock, her visor was getting very foggy. That’s dangerous. Luckily it is pinkock ready. Secondly, I have noticed you don’t keep at least your index fingers on your levers; this helps with reaction time. I went for a ride today. I love riding on the canyons.

What a champion of the hobby! Great to see someone like you taking newer people under their wing, sharing gear, teaching what you know. Just my opinion but when riding with new riders it's a good idea to have them lead, it prevents them from over-riding their abilities to keep up.

Really liked this video! For me as I still consider myself a newbie, I loved seeing you taking new riders along and showing/sharing the roads with them. I went down a few months ago on my new to me bike and today decided to get back on and give it another go. I related to the conversation at the pizza break (not really having friends that ride) I especially loved the “you have long lashes” moment 😝 we always have time for the girly stuff! loved how you ask if they were ok, and if they were cold. Looking forward to more girl ride videos.
