    Did anyone ever explain the Custom settings on the Mode dial? The C1, C2, C3 settings register virtually all the camera settings (including aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, and all custom functions) so that the photographer can instantly set a camera for three different purposes.
    For instance, my C1 is a "studio electronic flash" setup: Manual mode, shutter at 1/200, ISO at 100, aperture at f/11, flash light balance, et cetera. My C2 is "indoor available light:" Auto aperture, ISO 1600, tungsten balance. My C3 is the setup for video. Just switch between the C settings to change everything at once. Of course, you can then set anything further as you want, and anything you want to get back to the baseline, switch the mode to that C setting.

    • @toshsimpkin4386
      @toshsimpkin4386 Před 3 lety +4

      Okay, 3 years too late, but custom settings are brilliant. You set your camera up for a standard portrait shot and register that as C1. Then set up your camera (for example) for sports photography and set that as C2. So imagine you're photographing a football match on C2, then you see a spectator nearby, rather than re-arranging your settings from sports to portrait, you just turn the dial to C1 and you can take a portrait shot. You can adjust your custom settings while you're in each dial.
      For my kind of shooting they're brilliant; love them. Even photographing my dog; if he's still I can use my C1 portrait, and if he's moving I can click onto C2 (set up for sports) so it goes to auto servo focus, multiple shot, shutter speed priority in just a turn of the dial.

      i dont know if you already have the answer since your comment is 1 year old :D
      but to answer your question: Magic Lantern (ML) is a hack to canon digital cameras, to unlock the hidden functions of the machine, for example RAW Video footage, HDR, etc.. tons of function which is in the camera, but canon wont let you to use it unless you buy a top model.
      For more information google this: magic lantern for 5d mark ii (or you can go to magiclantern dot fm)
      hope it was a help, but i think you already knew all this :)

    at 4:47 you say "when I move my f stop" but you use the shutter speed selection dial, the aperture or f stop adjustment is the big dial on the back, as you adjust your Tv (Time Value) the aperture changes to compensate for the time difference. You use the same dial for Av (aperture) when you should be using the dial on the back. The power switch has two on positions, the first on allows you to change shutter speed but doesn't allow you adjust the aperature. The second on (with the line that directs you to the big dial) allows you to change aperture as well.
    Bulb mode simply means the shutter/mirror stays open for the time you keep it open, if you choose to expose your photo for 19 seconds you keep the shutter open for 19 seconds.

    Custom settings allows you to set all your settings in that mode. For example I use the particular settings very often and I don't want to keep on adjusting the settings. I just save it in those custom settings mode. So when I need the same settings again I just turn the dial to custom settings.
    Hope this helps U ....

    Okay the way to custom setting works is that you pick a setting that you're going to be using all the time and you can label it custom one custom 2 or custom 3 or if you have anybody else that uses the camera you can personalize it that's what the custom does

  • @GarryBurgess
    @GarryBurgess Před 5 lety +5

    There is a small mistake in the video where you are explaining Shutter speed priority (Tv), you accidentally said the same thing as when you turned it to Aperture priority, but actually when you turned the dial you were adjusting shutter speed, not F stop, so the F stop was changing to compensate.

    • @davepastern
      @davepastern Před 2 lety

      a bit late now, but you need to expose to the Right (of the histogram). Push your highlights as far to the right when taking the image, without actually clipping them.
      Also, the 5D II is an older camera and the dynamic range (DR) isn't as good as modern mirrorless cameras from Canon. It is now 13 years old (12 when you asked your question) and sensor technology has improved a LOT since then.
      Expose to the Right, get your exposure spot on, in camera, without have to resort to bump exposure in post processing (DPP, Lightroom, C1 pro etc etc).
      You didn't mention what ISO you were shooting at either. Exposing to the Right is even more critical at higher ISOs.
      One final thing - noise, especially Chroma noise, will always be more apparent in the darker areas of the image, even with modern cameras.

      With a single point (could be in the center, or not : several options) : you half-press while pointing this "spot'" of the frame to the eye (or anything else) you want focus on, and when the focus is done you can move the framing as you wish and finish the press to actually take the photo: the thing that was at the focus point will be in focus.

    There's a lot of button pressing that you don't explain. I need something more basic.

    I appreciate your efforts in explaining the buttons on the camera. It could have been done in a more relaxed way. The camera was wobbling and going out of focus many time. Your hands weren't steady when pointing or pressing the buttons. The speech wasn't very good. Gave me a feeling that you were not prepared or practiced. Take it as a constructive criticism and next time try to give a more RELAXED video demo.

      Ive used "this camera" for around 8 years for my business and still do. It earns me, on average, around a grand per week, so why on earth would I need to use advanced technology !!?? Hmmm?
