Now this does bring back memories to me in training and the swimming test back then we had to tread water for two minutes then swim two laps around the pool. Now is a guy who had very limited swimming abilities as I nearly drowned as a kid and only managed 50 meters at school so I was totally bricking this one especially when my swimming style was a cross between a man drowning and a bit of doggy paddle and and breast stroke all in one and then if I could manage to keep my head above the water! I really struggled that day but I wouldn’t give up as much as the rest of the lads were laughing at me half of them were showered and dressed while I was starting my second lap! I was absolutely chinstrapped. I was really struggling and my mind was telling me to give up as that memory of drowning kept rearing it’s ugly head but then I heard them to start and cheer me on, keep going Stonesy lad and that gave me that extra boost because those lads over the weeks had become a team, a brotherhood and we all had everyone’s back and to hear them egging me on made me feel properly for the first time in my life a part of something special. My army days are far behind me now but I’m proud to have served and privileged to have worked with so many amazing guys and so many wonderful memories. X1X

In America , we call them a garbage bag . Brits call them a bin liner . Keep at least one in your pack . A body bag will carry your gear and is an excellent flotation device .
That brings back memories, I did my swimming test at CTC in 79, we wore boots and had a 303 Lee Enfield! I also recall entering the water off a dive platform, it seemed ages before you got to the surface, for me it was a hard test to complete.

This is awesome just what I needed to see I’m in the application process of joining the Royal Marines and underwater confidence is my Achilles heel so this is the kind of stuff I’ve been wanting to watch whilst my local pools are fully booked 😄💪

Certainly would have been nice to have for pool phys, and especially nice to have for all ex’s with river crossings in swamps full of shit and aids.

That’s decking hard core. I can’t even swim in a t shirt let alone nice heavy cotton combats, boots, a burger full of 6,000,000 rounds AND a big arse gun AND webbing whilst potentially someone is shooting at you?!? Respect to you Sir ✊
Can someone please explain why they're not wearing boots? Presumably, swimming with all that kit is a training exercise, as they might need to cross a river or swim inshore from a landing craft, so I was expecting boots and all. Hopefully someone won't mind explaining. Thanks

The good old days when I wanted to become a civilian sports instructor here in The Netherlands. There were days we would exercise 6 hours a day. Volleyball, swimming, athletics, tennis, gymnastics. We also learned the basics of first aid the same day. And then in the evening (my spare time) I personally would hit the gym for another 1,5 hours. You could say we were never tired. Or rather that we would be permanently tired. In any case we trained harder than athletes on national levels and even international levels.
Now building up again to create the same circumstances. Always outside and busy doing sports. At least an hour of exercising each day and slowly increasing.
That's just in the pool, imagine in a tidal river, estuary or the sea, this is just tick box for training, night drill would be a different story.. Paradise 😜

Okos not a nice place but if you can make it from there you stand 70% chance of passing the CDO course at Lympstone. I remembered leopard crawling at 0300 am in the snow ❄🙃😫. Not for the fainted heart....
Fresh pool water is less buoyant than sea water remember so this would have been pretty tough going....
Are these blokes training for the Commando course or have they got the Green lid but just refreshing up?
These lads are training at 29 commando so I assume they are already in their units. Or, they are army training to take the all arms course 🤷🏻♂️
This is the beat up course to see if you are robust enough for the all arms course.

Why are you saying that the weapon weighs 11kg? SA80 weighs under 5kg if not loaded
I thought it was tradition to come out of the pool and do the estuary run around the wreck? Mybe not allowed now in case they get stuck.

People say heavier folk should float but i dont i just sink. any tips for treading.
Yes, you will float about two inches higher if learn to try to keep your lungs inflated. I am a big lad but Just in my trunks with my lungs full I can float upright without moving my arms ajnd legs, but with empty or half empty lungs I have to paddle and tread water which wastes energy. Practice in your local pool and you will ace this.
I was quite low body fat and stocky and though that was why I sunk, but my top tip is "relax." I found I'd just about float with literally just my eyes, nose and lips above water (in kit that is) Mind you, I drank a lot of pool water whilst I was learning to relax and float.
Some of your stuff brings back painful memories lol. But what are you? you wear the kit but seem to drift in and out as it suits you.

Commandos are not Army they are Royal Marines part of the Royal Navy the best part
No, there are Army Commandos as well. They are attached to the Royal Marines to provide specialised support, such as artillery.

@@THE_CRIMSON_FUCKXR - to be accurate, if you can't swim you'll look like a dead fish at the bottom of the water as opposed to a live fish out of it!

Why a swim test without boots? If you fall in the water or have to cross a stream you are wearing boots.
It's s test of swimming ability not of Tactical movement.
Did you say the weapon was '11kg' ? Not trying to undermine anyone and I have utmost respect for all military personnel but you need to check that.

@@trendinggh4123 okay bro, so, at the moment, the army is recruiting from the commonwealth. if you have a friend/fanily member in the uk, they are your sponser. sign up and make an account on the British army, and apply from the commonwealth, if you don't have a friend/ family memmber in the uk, you'll need to find temporary accommodation thwre

Why weren't you allowed to film on drake, i could understand if by the waterfront, but the pool is 2 minutes into camels head so no reason not to be allowed

I would think that the water would be the easiest part of the course
I was a very weak swimmer and learned to swim properly just to pass my mil swimming test.
About a year later, my next mil swimming session was "aquarobics" for a bit of phys whilst passing through RAF Akrotiri. I went thinking of relatively gentle exercise with water noodles, how wrong was I? First rep was, "10 lengths backstroke, get out each length, ten press ups, GO!"
Never again!!
