    The NATO pact in 2021 has 30 member countries who asked to join the alliance and had to be voted on by the members to join. At the height of the “Cold War” the Warsaw pact had 8 members who were forced to join by the former USSR; now Russia fights alone. The very reason the former members of the USSR, who are now independent countries, ask to join the NATO alliance is being shown by Russia by their belligerence and aggression against an independent country. Democratic countries have a right to chose and not have a dictatorial country ban them from choosing who they wish to associate with.

Last two invasions of crimea in 2014 happened a few days after Olympic games , 2008 invasion of georgia happend after summer games. What a propaganda... I am almost word less... The Russian troops are 400km from the Ukrainian border ,NOT ON THE BORDER. The Ukrainians are on the border! There are several major pro - Nazi military groups (you can find several photos on the web and videos) in Ukrain. The real reason of this situation has two sides: 1st- Ukraine will hit Lugansk and Donetsk People's republic ,because the majority of the population there is pro-Russian ,or native Russians and they want to reunite with Russia. So Russia is doing the same thing as NATO. The Russians said that if Ukraine attacks Lugansk or Donetsk - they will defend them ,because of the native Russians! 2nd - What do you expect from the Russians ,when NATO and US is the aggressor? Where are the russian ballistic missiles, deployed on Mexican and Canadian soil? NATO and especially US want to put missiles in Ukraine ,and there is no denying! The tension rises ,because of our governments. Can't you see it? We send troops and weapons ,warships and fighter jets ,but at the same time NATO and US is talking about diplomacy and peace!? Open your eyes: If Ukraine invades Lugansk or Donetsk - there will be WW3 ,because the Ukrainians will say that separatists are Russian... Stop sending weapons ,are you crazy???

    We here in London hope that US-NATO does the right thing to diffuse the situation by providing written guarantees that US-NATO will never expand into Ukraine so they cannot set up weapons systems and troops in Ukraine immediately next to Russian soil in the future, like US-NATO did in 1961 in Turkey which caused the Cuban Missile Crisis. Ukraine can bypass US-NATO and provide these written guarantees directly to Russia, to provide Russia with a permanent land buffer between itself and US-NATO.

      What if we just give Ukraine a bunch of cutting edge military hardware and send in 25,000 private military contractors to train them and then give them nukes? How would Londoners feel about that? After all, it’s looking like that’s Biden’s plan. It’s like Biden is trying to get Europe to stop using Russian natural gas and Russian oil by raising tensions. Perhaps Europe will be forced to build nuclear power plants and push EVs as hard as possible.

    There are a lot of misconceptions and very ignorant people in the comments. I just want to list a few key points from what I am seeing from these people.
    1. The geopolitics of Ukraine and Russia is a very complicated issue. Ukraine has a very corrupt government, nearly half of the people in Ukraine speak Russian as the primary language at home, Eastern Ukraine is majority Russian or Pro-Russian, Crimea was given to Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union not because it was Ukrainian or ever had been Ukrainian but because of incompetent governments just like the incompetent governments that drew up the middle easts modern borders.
    2. Russia is not going to implode, or be hurt by massive sanctions. Putin is extremely liked in Russia with an overwhelming approval rating, and no that isn't because of "corruption". That is an absolute truth. The former administration of Russia was extremely incompetent, Putin is seen as a god sent by many Russians who has reestablished Russian prestige in the world as well as someone who is extremely in touch with their culture rather than the communism that attempted to erode and destroy it. Also, the idea that the west is somehow unified against Russia or even in a stable position to do anything is a joke. The US policy besides what media says is focused on China, not too mention the USA is war weary from Afghanistan. The US public is VERY against intervention in Russia, Biden has an abysmal approval rating, the US population doesn't even see a need for NATO (NATO was for containing communism and the soviets. Russia is neither now no matter what people say) anymore via polls. The US is not even currently stable, it has EXTREME political division, extreme distrust towards mainstream media in the country (for a good reason to be fair, it has been very corrupt as of the last decade or so. More so than normal in other countries), and inflation rising house prices etc haven't helped.Also this idea of NATO being unified is a lie. Turkey doesn't want to get involved and has more conflict with Greece and the USA than it does with Russia despite being in NATO. Sweden, Finland will not risk joining NATO. The talk is by stupid politicians not the wholes of their government or their people. Bulgaria, Hungary, etc don't want to get involved either.
    3. Ukraine is not going to put up some massive guerilla resistance movement. Are there extreme Far Right and Far Left individuals that might sure. But understand, the majority of Ukrainians have more in common with Russians than Californians and Texans do. Also understand that there are no counter revolutionaries/terriosts/insurgents whatever you want to call them that have naturally risen up in Ukraine or Crimea against the Russians or Pro-Russian Separatists. All there is is the Ukrainian Army, which has actually seen thousands defect to the Russians.
    4. The EU is not willing to fight Russia. They are not as unified as some extremists think. They also don't have an effective army even all together to fight the Russians. They also don't have the industry. And like mentioned before cannot risk losing their trade with Russia which would be more damning to Europe than it would be for Russia. Russia has natural resources, it has industry, it has China as a backup. The EU is already extremely reliant on foreign nations as it is for many of its goods that keep its countries stable and running.
    5. One of the big reasons for the Pro-Russian movements. Is because LEGIT Nazi collaborators from WWII in Ukraine attempted to stamp out the Russian language in Ukraine forcefully. This idea that Putin magically created a bunch of separatists is also a joke. These people never would of fought, if they didn't actually believe in what they are fighting for.
    The only thing that would help is the US finally leaving Ukraine alone and stop holding up this corupt pro western regime. Without the US 2014 wouldve never happened because Russia and Ukraine are one nation, one culture, same people, same language, same morals. The only thing Putin is demanding: stop the east expansion of the NATO. Is this too much to ask for?
    All you american folks please imagine russian troops being placed in mexico, cuba, kanada, puerto rico, ... Your government would've already started WW3 10 times before that would happen. But if it is happening to Russia, you guys put your propaganda glasses on and only see THE BAD PUTIN. Sad to see how so many people are being blinded... even the Ukrainian President said that the West should already shut up and start finding solutions instead of being super horny for the next profitable war.

      @patrickm5217 Před 2 lety +2

      Agreed, I might also add (and this might be a bit of a stretch) but I think Putin's approval extends even well beyond Russian borders to much of Eastern Europe and even has some supporters in the West. Putin is no angel and has plenty of skeletons in his closet, but in recent years the US government has been a shitshow. American politicians have lost the support & confidence of not only their own citizens, but much of the world. You know things were (and continue to be) in severe disarray when a clown like Trump had the confidence of over half the American population to fix the country (not entirely surprising considering the corruption, secret deals and scandals the Clintons have had on their hands over the past decades).
      So yeah. Although ham fisted leaders like Putin (and even Xi JinPing) are ruthless in their methods, and guilty on many fronts of subjective wrongdoing (not to mention making their public enemies / vocal opposition leaders "disappear" / get assassinated).. Putin gets things done, without wasting months or years on a congress of full of dinosaurs deliberating back and forth.. Every 4-8 years the Republicans undo all the actions / work in opposition to the Democrats, and the Democrats do the same when they get into office.. its two steps forward, one step back.. huge waste of time and resources. Having one constant leader like Putin or Xi JinPing has its benefits, because the government doesnt go back and forth + waste time on unnecessary quarrelling and infighting between Democrats and Republicans.
      These days, Americans seem to hate each other more than they do Russia, China or anyone else.
      United States is a shitshow, Russia government and Chinese Communist Party are (for the most part) marching in unison, albeit independent of each other, towards common goals established by their leaders. America is all over the place.
      The narcissistic reality TV clown Donald Trump has been replaced by a geriatric old man suffering from early onset dementia . Good Luck America 👍
