Making New Caledonia Gecko Vivariums (Bioactive DIY Build)

- For several years now, I've been lowkey talking about these vivariums. I never made any specifications, but I eluded to the fact that I was going house all of the geckos in a single location. It's been a slow process, but it's finally come to fruition.
Crested Geckos and Gargoyle Geckos are awesome animals that do great in live planted bioactive vivariums. If you choose a good selection of plants and provide enough space, they're very easy to keep. I didn't want to be too redundant, so I did all three of these in a single video. I have no intentions of bringing in any more New Caledonia geckos and my plan is to keep them in these vivariums for good.

This completes a small portion of my plan to optimize the animal room. More to come, but I'm really excited to have this portion done... and in case you didn't put two and two together, I now have two empty plywood tanks. What should I do with them? Also, which one of these vivariums is your favorite? I probably like Henry's the best (the one on the right).
Tanner....can I send you some lighting?
Long time subscriber. 🙏🦎
I’d love to see a smooth green snake enclosure with a bit of grass or low lying vegetation. Love your videos!
The bromeliad one was my favorite
Maybe some newts or a bearded dragon
Oh boy! I was wondering what the fate of those two empty vivariums would be!! Cuban anoles (false chameleons) would be super cool in those set-ups!
I see Cresties, I click. Simple as that.
Love your "handle". I too remember Boaty McBoatface. When I've eaten beans, I call myself? F4rty McF4rta$$.
@@frogpalpeeper4249 hah thank you, I was directly inspired by the boaty mcboatface fiasco
I'm a simple man, cresties, click, smile
could you create a spotify playlist with all the songs you listen to while scaping your tanks?
That would be very cool!
I think he listens to Viking metal/ war cries 😂
God I hope it's just like. Hardcore, hyper aggressive rap. That would be so funny 😂😂😂
@@millie-mayprice891 yeah he's so sweet imagining him listening to $uicideboy$ is hilarious
Yes
I'd like to be one of Tanner's animals, so I can be in a place where I can relax and see nice things.
Where's my random tanner head telling me to subscribe? I like those, and haven't found one yet
Really tho! Where is playsand tanner?
It's simply beautiful.
Everyone should look up to your builds, they are truly amazing.
They are beautiful, arent they!
Yes!
Love these builds. The middle one is the best. The color pop from the bromeliad is very striking in the 3rd vivarium. The background came out great too. I am taking away some inspiration from here for a project of mine. Thanks!!!
Absolutely adore your designs! And I love how you show how you did it, you're the Bob Ross of animal enclosures, lol. I wish I had a workshop, I don't own many of the tools you use.
This is so exciting. I've been thinking of getting a Chahoua. Love the video, great inspiration!
They're pretty neat as well! I love all the NC geckos.
I love how Serpa didn't just try to make beautiful tanks for CZcams clout and views, first and foremost he wanted to make sure the geckos were safe and could use the enclosure however they wanted. I respect that.
Tanner: *makes wonderful viv full of places to climb and explore*
Gecko: *hangs on roof*
Who wouldnt want a shelf of geckos. Or The gecko shelf!!!
I'm pretty sure this is the only channel keeping me sane during covid.
Purfect they almost look like 1 continous scape if not for the walls inbetween. I really like it!
Did not expect to see miniatures painting techniques here. Neat.
I swear ...those geckos look truly happy in the homes you've made them.
He’s so creative have no idea how he thinks of these things.
Looking forward to the build for the plywood tanks
Looking great man.
Wish we were allowed Crested Gecko's in Australia, they look super cool!
Yep me to
Velvet geckos are also very cool. Here they are quite rare, but they are in the same family as cresteds.
I love your videos so much.
Was watching aquarium co op live the other day and he was talking about you.
Nice to see others showing you the respect you deserve
What video I didn't see it?
@@SerpaDesign time stamp 54:24 on his last live stream.
"Nocturnal animals", a Gecko proceeds to climb upside down, as close to the light source as possible.
Secret sun worshipping gecko?
Yeah.... they are dumb sometimes lol
If disrupted (like getting put into a new cage) they can get erratic and sort of wander around for a bit even if the lights are on.
They’re crepuscular, not nocturnal.
Wondering: Has Tanner ever tried making a hexagonical or oddshaped terrarium? Mostly curious in how to cut the glass for that and what he'd stock it with
I think he's made smaller vivariums but im not sure if he's ever added any animals besides maybe small inverts
ive got a 10 gallon hex I'd love to use for frogs, was previously a betta home, but he passed after a freak weather storm popped the power for a week.
I love how much respect and care you have for your animals, you obviously love them. Your gecko's are beautiful.
The detail put into these builds is insane
DUDE!!!! This is your best build yet!!!! I'm Blown away!!!
So awesome. If I’m ever half as good as Tanner I’ll be happy.
I like the simplicity of this build. I mean I love the old builds, but this works for those still working out the kinks in the learning process.
Don’t mind me.
Just making another comment so that Tanner can have more money to make his amazing videos 😊.
Tanner, it's like you're reading my mind all the time - I'll be thinking about making a purple foam/concrete viv background, haven't even started searching, and BOOM, you show up in my YT notifications building something similar. Nice work, as always.
I did that background technique for my brother's bearded dragons enclosure I made and it came out amazing. He can climb up both sides and the back and he loves it! It's a 4x2x2 wood enclosure. It is super time consuming, but the end result is perfect and looks so realistic to their natural environment! Okay, back to the video!
Would love to see a updated animal room tour:))
I watch in awe every time I watch one of tanners videos!
That foam looks insanely good the rock style. You should add little caves and rooms for them to hide in that are like half foot little caves
I’ve had so much trouble with the coco husk on foam and am at the starting point of a huge rebuild/upgrade. Thank you so much for sharing this process! This gives me a lot to think about.
Surprised to see you didn’t include cork hides but there’s so much coverage- these are great!
This kind of videos really inspire me to make my own projects, thanks for this extraordinary work. Greetings from Mexico.
I like them. I think the gecko will love living in them. Great job
Out of all th geckos I've ever bred. Crested are by far my favorite. They're the most chill geckos.
So beautiful to watch someone do something so well and with so much respect. Joy to you and all who enjoy your work.
Your work is so inspiring. It's so much fun to watch your builds come to life. Your cresties and gargoyle gecko will absolutely love the new homes you've built for them!!
I love how balance beauty with the needs of your animals, you always think of their needs first and manage to make something so beautiful that is pleasing and functional for both you and them. ❤️ Thank you!
Tanner you should get a patreon! We'd love to support the work that you do
they're like tiny dragons! love em
I missed those bioactive builds
I'm glad they have a good home.
Tanner you need to make a series were people make a setup blueprint that they want you to create and you create it for them and then see there reaction once your finished!!!!
Could be cool, but we gotta use blueprint loosely. I don't even do that for my own setups.
@@SerpaDesign what about we throw you an idea and once in a while you make a video on that build? Like your the first channel I seen a temperate vivarium build, I dont mind seeing another build on that. Or what about a savanna vivarium build or a arid vivarium build. It could even just be a mini series on terrarium builds that I can build upon ideas for a vivarium. Like your old how to series.
It could be that we vote on the materials and you make something with those?
I'm so grateful for your videos. I look forward to them like crazy. The shots at the end were stunning. And such beauty in those animals...
Wow, the geckos and your setups are so beautiful! Thanks for showing us 😍
I find myself frequently Inspired by your work as I know so many others are, you're a true artist. As someone who works within the industry, I'd definitely recommend offering all of these guys uvb, or at least doing further research into the benefits. Great scapes as always.
Luke is right, please do more research, unfortunately it's a common misconception that crestys dont need uvb or have no benefit from it, but show major health and behavior benefits such as activity with a UVB light providing about 5% uvb
I recommend a Repti-Sun 5.0
I love these videos with the animals because I'm deathly afraid of a lot of them. I'm glad to see how calm they really can be
So beautiful! Henry's is also my favorite, the red really makes it pop!
The way you explained and put everything in together makes this one of your best videos.
I love that red bromeliad!
I've been looking in to drylok backgrounds for a while. This looks like a much easier method than foaming and carving
Amazing build as always. I love seeing your diverse plant selection.
I love the Mood that you're giving to ur vids... it smell like honnesty and good feelings
After seeing your big move video, I've binging information on crested geckos. If I ever have a house, I think I might have to build a home for one.
I can’t express enough how relaxing and fun your videos are. It brings me back to how much I loved when the science teacher would wheel in the cart and we’d watch some kind of educational something or other, and how fun it was to learn about biology and the world. Just pure joy. Thanks, man.
Wow we got lucky with this upload!
3 amazingly beautiful vivariums! awesome video!
Well done. Next time I build one, I'll be using the foam insulation board. Couple of tips...make sure to use food grade silicone. I forget which GE "version" it is, but it will say on the back of the tube. Personally, I would have put a bead around the edges to prevent any moisture from collecting behind the background.
I love how every single sett up is different.
Love you !!!
Beautiful! Love it T! Just saying Gecko makes me smile. Those geckos no doubt will love their new set up. 🦎💚
Hey Tanner! Thank you for these wonderful videos. I look forward to them every Saturday, and seeing these come together is very satisfying to watch.
You work so hard and it really pays off. It's like art with living creatures & plants.
Each enclosure is as beautiful and unique as their inhabitants
Always amazing inspiration for everything we do both in and off of our channel. Well done.
I just about, enjoy all of your videos. Always wait for the weekends mornings. Thank you...
I'm going to try this with my crested geckos . I'm sure they would love something like this . Great job 👏👍. One of my favorite builds without a doubt.
I have two golden geckos that recently laid eggs and I have a hard time optimizing humidity within the terrarium. I'm keeping up on misting them but they're currently in a small, 10 gallon high basic kit that I got when I picked them up from a friend's rescue. So, I intend to make a similar terrarium setup to yours so they have more space, better humidity and a more natural environment as opposed to the plastic plants and low lying perch areas. Already subbed, have been for some time and I really appreciate the in depth step by step because it means I can get an idea of how long it'll take. Thinking of asking my dad to assist and am looking forward to a fun project. Thanks for providing a basis for my next project!
These are some great builds! It would be so awesome to see the new caledonian geckos get taller enclosures in the new animal room
I like how you made the back rock look wall
This gives me a ton of inspiration for my gargoyle gecko!! I want her to have a good amount of enrichment and fun in her enclosure. Your builds are always amazing, thank you for sharing them!
Great video man! You inspire me. It's so satisfying to watch. So dedicated
Your videos are of such high quality and they are always so enjoyable and educational. Thanks for detailing every step of the process 🌱
I loved this video. I appreciated how you painted the background with dry lock. I’m going to have to try that with my next scape. Up till now I’ve just glued moss to cover my expanding foam. I like having more option.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. Just built a 30 gallon for my anole using the same supplies. Came out awesome!
Everything you do is ridiculously high quality! Been following your channel for years and it keeps getting better
Cheers from Malaysia, Tanner! Thanks for using our driftwood... 😂😂😂
I am so excited for this because the previous gecko builds have been my favorite on the channel!
There's something magical about this video, more magical that is. Loved the montage at the end!
Love the setup(s). Love to see that you respect your animals
This video is probably the best crested gecko video on CZcams, seriously 👍
Always love your vids man! The creation process and love you put into them is amazing.
Coming home and watching your videos after school is a vibe and a half.
i find myself watching your videos right before i go to sleep abs end up falling asleep 5 minutes in… i go back and finish the video when i wake up… subscribed!
those little guys are so cute
I love this! I've waited patiently for this build! Came out great!
Love the set ups. Great job!!
Absolutely love the background on these!! So doable for me! The silicone/coco fibre looked really messy and involved, carving ALL of the dried expanding foam for the silicon to stick etc, your enclosures are stunning, as usual Tanner, lucky lucky geckos, I’m learning everything I can from you about vivarium builds before I make my own and go pick my new gecko up from the breeder
the ending was so pleasing, loved the vibe
Please upload other plywood diy vids. If you have any from 10 gallons to 40 gallons that would be great ☺️👍🏼. Love your content and your attention to detail.
I am so happy to have found your channel. Your videos are educational as well as relaxing. Your work is amazing and everything looks extremely professional. Phenomenal work.
Wow, some beautiful close up shots man.
I could watch that all day!
Thanks for making stuff like this and taking all the time to edit and make it informative and entertaining
Very cool how these came together!
These are so cool, can’t wait to try and make something like this myself
Same but Idek where to start lol
You are a true artist, everything you do is amazing, this one as well. Thanks for spending time to share with us! Stay safe.
These are so relaxing! Thankyou for making videos😊
Another great build. Thanks for being consistently awesome Tanner!
Never disappointed, another amazing habitat for the animals.
