"Good job, ME!"
Man, that's a super genuine Jared smile. You love to see it!
Man never want these episodes to end lol. When I first found this channel there was so much I could binge watch. I got spoiled lol.
I always imagined that he was just a suit of armor that came to life, and his horse is just horse armor that came to life and can float because horse armor doesn't cover the legs
That makes a lot of sense
I can definitely believe this for the horse at least
He did explode. And I don't remember any other boss doing that. Unless that was added in
That boss fight still feels incredibly cool and it's neat how the wide screen was used to better frame that the glitchy way he bounces between the edges of the screen in the og. I always loved the way the animation looks when the horse turns around.
I just realized that activating the protect spell sound is part of Great Tiger's teleport sound in Punch Out. Not the complete thing just the end part of the teleport sound.
"You have to chicken across" is such a funny line if you've never played videogames.
@ProJared Plays!
Jared, in reference to you last video.
The reason they got rid of the keys dropping when the boss dies is do to the randomizer. You can put keys into the randomization. How much would it suck for you to kill the boss and then not have access to the key to finish the dungeon because a P-bag or a key for another dungeon falls?
I would not have thought of that
then its a badly done randomizer. most other randos have forced drops for things like that
That is a weird robot horse for sure. Or maybe some sort of golem-esque creature, crafted from metal and stone and imbued with life by some enchantment. The very best thing about Blue Boss Horse, though, is watching him calmly peace out after Link gets a few hits in. He doesn't fly off, he calmly recognizes the amount of BS going on and just slides the knight off and very casually and professionally nopes the heck out of there. Blue Boss Horse is my new spirit animal.
Dungeon maps might be my favorite improvement in this version, if not for the red fairy.
Palace 3 boss is the reverse trope of a boss that becomes a regular enemy later.
Didn’t he explicitly tell people not to comment spoil things or tell me stuff he missed etc?
This series has been a really fun to watch on my lunch breaks
The sounds Jared made when the chicken-Lank game over’d 😂😂:
The bubbles are graphical representations of steam rising from the super hot spring a la Dante's peak.
Chicken pecking enemies to death!
Now Link has become a part of THE CHICKEN...
I'm confused by Jared's logic. "Why do anything (level ups) in order?" I mean that's a perfectly sound and logical question to ask. But you were RIGHT at the boss. The better question is "why take ONE level up when you could have had two?"
It's one thing to say "I don't want to power level through the game", but it's okay for a boss fight, I think. There's not many of those, and it's just a quick hit of life and power. D'ah well, play your way. And what's done is done.
just me who find it easier to hit the darknuts on the way down when jump-stabbing em? if you miss you get pushed away by hitting their shields.. jareds style meaning a miss makes lank basically land on one and getting hit
Yeah, that's how I do it as well. I've honestly never seen the technique Jared is using before I watched his randomizer run of Zelda 2
Same…I’ve never seen the crouch stab way but I feel it opens you up to be hit more. I like hitting on the way down from a normal jump attack, especially in low ceiling situations
I've always swung my weapon as I fall in to range of their head and it connects every single time.
I couldn't do it in this remake. I did it on real hardware 10 years ago going down like you said. In the remake i just had to stand there and fight
@@MrNoobed You have to swing your sword before it would reach their head while you're falling, so that it connects with them on the first possible frame. If you're in a 2 block high passage with them you can just press attack immediately after bonking your head.
I've tested it in the remaster too and for me it works exactly like in the NES game.
Wow that widescreen really is gorgeous.
The chicken jump was the best part of this episode.
I always figured the horse was some kind of robot because of the floating.
16:39 "When I'm crouching, you can make me do the du- chicken walk! COOL, HUH?!"
Having a blast watching this series with my friend and seeing what all the romhackers have done over the years, some of which I've indulged in too :D
Those floating heads are an absolute pain. You could only push your way through and get pummeled in the process even if you try to dodge or block.
Apparently, if you ignore them and just keep walking, they won't touch you.
Jared was wrong about Widescreen allowing for more to appear on screen, it does however add the potential for it to require further running away to despawn those following behind you though (if you let them gain ground on you).
Metal Gear Chimken is my fav Legend of Zelda spin-off.
I think the Rebonak's horse-thing is a flying robot. Much like that one scenario in Dragon's Lair when Dirk rides one around that giant room. Maybe that was the inspiration? Thw game came out a few years before Zelda 2.
5:40 *Chicken Attack intensifies*
I was about to say... Use the chicken left of the raft. Lol
Im in the swamp palace and i love it 😂 they actually made it swampy
23:15 No Jared, it's a possessed horse armor.
15:21 the sheer finesse in the second go is so satisfying
I thought the point of getting a level up before the boss was to get a 2nd one at the crystal, buuuuut I guess not today
Really enjoying this one PJ! As someone that never got throught Z2 myself, I'm finding myself keen to start a playthrough of this remake.
That was such a good catch with the chicken tunnel 👏🏼👏🏼
Loving these remade games that are just improved versions of the original game
Oh neat! Hylian language at the tomb stone!
Also I´m very curious about palaces 3 and 6 especially their design and what kind of new stuff they added! Was kinda disappointed from Mido, I expected them to add some watertextures in the background but then I guess they couldn´t pull that off without making everybody walk through water in between houses...
god i love the random encounter music so much
ding, dong, ding, dong, ding-dong
ding, *dong*, ding, dong, ding!
Edit: and the sound effect when an enemy dies, *bwah!*
Pleeeeeease keep playing good games Jerd 🥺
Used "heal" spell correctly after looting (red) magic jar. 6:25 12:30 14:18 ✅ 8:41 (x)
7:39 approach the hammer thrower by standing on (2) blocks (not 3) and he can not harm you.
Life (red) bar increased to 6 bars ✅
Raft acquired ✅ 3rd temple completed ✅ good level up after boss ✅
Things to remember from 1st game:
1> iron knuckle boss is always attacked by targeting his head (push down, to lower his shield)
Jared has good fighting skills, but has trouble jumping.
The horse might be a reverse engineered Sheikah Master Cycle. Kidding, its obviously a magical mechanical horse that the original devs put in the game because of the rule of cool, of course.
I just want a horse with diddly feet like the knights now..
Was not expecting spinning ball and chain. Really cool
Waited for this!
Poor chicken got drowned...
23:09 Look's like a horse variant of an Armos to me.
16:39 you did a smrt :D ⭐
aka catching up with everyone else lol
The raft looks like a pack of hot dogs.
The first few videos: "Wow, Jared is pretty good at Zelda 2." Last couple of videos: "Is he high? It's like his hands don't work anymore."
he's supposed to be good?
I thought you had to mash B as well with the chicken, I felt that confusion 😂
Same! I did that gap the hard way because it took me an embarrassingly longer time to realize I could just hold it lol 😅
"I saw the darkened spots earlier, like when I got the raft"
uh huh, sure
that's why you tried jumping first and even then only chicken'ed into it by accident, right?
Tomba!
Dying to know what’s behind the wall in river man’s house!
Who put a Mario level in here?! :D
Love the drop you have to do on the slime.
Also yeah I see that as floating horse armor, kinda neat when you think about it like a millennia later it’ll inspire Link to mount up on his own mechanized horse motorcycles. 🏍️
Gotta love the chicken spell!
4:57 This is the saddest game over screen I've ever seen in my life
I've been checking this series out only because I want to see all about this remake. That said, HOLY CRAP this gameplay is pure pain to watch!
;) the bubbles are acid o they hurt when they pop on ya.
I like to imagine that the bubbles are methane gas and Link is suffering from "silent but deadly" damage.
@@mightymanatee5342 aka poo gas
You could have levelled up your life and still it would have levelled up your attack at the end there.
Yeah I was silently screaming. Min max.
Wouldn't it have actually been a second life level up because that would be the cheapest thing after taking the 1500 life up? Just going off memory/assumption, I believe the next life upgrade is 2500, right? Like, it definitely would have been a larger gap of exp gained, but then would have to wait much longer to get the attack upgrade. What he did was way less exp efficient, but it satisfied his impatience to do more damage now instead of later. I wouldn't do it, but more power to him (literally, lulz).
CHICKEN KILL!!!
I love the chicken transformation it reminds me of the one in guacamelee.
I’m glad you didn’t have to “re-chicken” 😂😂😂
1:00 I don't think you got any additional magic on your magic meter from that item you found. Is it perhaps the magic medicine, aka a quest item?
It’s a Magic Container piece. You need three for a new container.
It's a magic container. Hoverbat just made it so that you need 3 before you get an extra square on your meter.
Drip fed Link - just enough to keep me alive. Just drop the whole video! lol
Loving these. I was yelling at my screen for a minute when you almost missed the chicken secret. Your enthusiasm for this game continues to make me smile real big.
Maybe its just me but it feels like the Protect spell is WAY more effective here than in vanilla. Makes it really worth to use more often.
Those shooty floaty panther heads kicked my butt my first time through this dungeon, so many of them on screen! It didn't occur to me it was because of the widescreen so more of them could spawn.
The number of things this game has to just stumble on is so great.
Coming up: I am straight up embarrassed for myself at how long it took me to find the 4th palace. For some reason my brain thought you needed the boots and I spent a few hours running around trying to find them.
Only 4 of those floating heads can spawn in both vanilla and remaster, only difference is if you let those that are following you catch up to you you'll have to run a extra long distance to despawn them (or you can attack them but then you run the risk of more spawning in that direction as you kill them which kinda makes fighting them redundant).
If you can manage to spawn 4 of them facing the direction of the exit then you can just slowly follow along behind 'em.
You single-handedly made me want to play this and I beat the game a couple days ago. I missed a couple things, including one normal item (I still couldn't see invisible enemies and forgot how you can get to see them in the normal game but didn't want to use a guide of any kind for my run) and another item that I presume is unique to this version of the game. There's even a 2nd Quest once you beat the game, but all it seems to do is restart you with a specific item, all your stats and spells (But not the up or down thrusts for some reasons) and bosses seem to have a tiny change to their attacks, so it doesn't feel significant to play through it all again.
There are a lot of cool secrets and easter eggs in this game, and if you finish the game without finding them, I could always tell you more if you're curious since it wouldn't be as much of a spoiler anymore, and I'd rather not tell you where to go for them against your will, lest we want a repeat of what happens to youtubers/streamers when they try to play through "The Thousand Year Door" or "Undertale"/"Deltarune" blind in front of people that want you to discover everything there is. I'm sure you remember how that goes considering your Deltarune stream which was one of the worst streams you've had, huh? It's why I'd rather wait for you to ask or to be done with the game to let you know what you missed, rather than telling you to do it or how to.
Regardless, this was a blast, and that's despite me not enjoying the original that much, but this is a work of talent and love, I am so very glad I discovered this thanks to you Jared, and I hope you enjoy the game as much as I did.
The whole point of the 2nd quest is to get the true ending by fighting a botched resurrection of Ganon. That's what the bottle is for. You kill Dark Link again & collect his blood, then you go to a new post game area called Dragmire & resurrect Ganon with Dark Link's blood & then fight Ganon again.
I love the hint to get that heart piece with missing bricks
Awesome
You missed a prime, "This is the only way to fly" joke in here somewhere.
UGH, I got the raft and the slime but now I need to go back for that heart piece. Nice find, Jerd!
Man, not only did I completely miss that heart piece on my first pass through the Palace, but then it took me *way* longer to figure out when I came back for it lol. 😂
I’ve played through the game twice and never knew about that heart piece. Both times, I ended the game one heart piece short. Now I know why.
If you have gotten the 1st half of the world map item wouldn’t it tell you there’s a heart piece at the palace?
@@patyos2 It does show it but you have to be close enough to the palace to see there's one there lol. And people probably just avoid going back through the cemetery because eyeball battles are annoying af.
Took me a while to figure out that chicken spot in the palace. Didn't realize the dark bricks were showing a path.
Link's unstoppable
I love the little secrets like becoming a chicken to walk under a wall
i have played ahead of you, currently i am stuck, so imma watch you play before i do anything else
A streamer/content creator that checks the map?! What kind of fowl sorcery is this?
16:52 I'm guessing there are stairs or a ladder inside that hole.
23:10 The horse is a robot.
I kinda think most/all of the palace guardians are robots. They've been guarding the palaces for numerous generations, they don't bleed and they explode into a shower of sparks.
@@nanoglitch6693 Or they are immortal.
if i didnt see the chicken secret here i wouldnt have known about it
Guessing he forgot about that "Money Making Game" he saw at one point
I always assumed the bubbles hurt because they where poison gas.
Came back to the vid as I'm playing myself, saw the heart container on the map and for the life of me couldn't figure out this wall - even tried fairy on it at one point, but I guess I fell victim to how fickle the Nintendo controls are (really doesn't like pressing two directions, like down and left, at once >.> ). But thanks for that!
Are you just doing initial playthru or 2nd quest as well? Second quest apparently has the full ending
4:55 GAME OVER
RETURN OF COLONEL SANDERS
23:42 “Let’s get you up against the wall…” That’s what she said! “…and then I need you to die” Oh dear God, I hope that’s not what she said >_>
Did Jerd say that there was a Randomizer to this? EDIT: Also does anyone think Buh-duh-duh-duh-dah, I'm Loving It, to the secret music?
Tommy Wiseau: Chicken, Peter, he just a little chicken. Cheeeeep chee-chee-cheep Cheep cheep cheeeeep!😂🐔
At the end, you didn't have to skip the 1500 life upgrade, as the tombstone at the end would have leveled you anyway, you technically lost 1500 points. :)
I was yelling this at my screen, why Jared why
yea i am no the only one who saw jarad trying to be smart and doin the stupidest thing possible
@@Nicholas_Steel I think it would have been Life again though, usually life is two above attack and magic one above attack (5-6-7 in that case) before attack would go 6-6-7. He did prioritize attack once, that's why he was at 5-5-5 for a moment.
@@MatthewBluefoxYou're right, I wasn't thinking. If he had chosen to upgrade Life for 1,500 XP the next upgrade would've been Life for 2,500 XP and that's what the Statue at the end of the palace would've given him, 2,500 XP.
That being said, this Remaster of the game enables the option to Cancel out of upgrading when you complete a Palace (I believe the original game disables the Cancel choice in this scenario).
So he could've upgraded life for 1,500 XP and then gotten 2,500 XP progress towards the 3,000 that Attack required.
@@Nicholas_Steel And that would have been just as good, yes. I forgot about that. :)
BUT IS THERE A DOWNWARD CLUCK?! lol
LMAO sadly no!!
It is definitely a robot a levitating robot
He did it again. The gems give a full level up, another level up completely wasted.
The first time around it made sense, if he chose to upgrade Magic or Life he would've been below the XP threshold for the other. So the statue wouldn't have given him the XP to upgrade Attack.
Upgrading or skipping Life this time would've put him in the same situation. The next upgrade threshold after upgrading Life would've been 2500, for Life again and that's what the Statue would've given him enough XP for.
I could be mistaken but iirc in the original game getting a Level Up at the end of a Palace *forced* you to choose an upgrade, the "Cancel" option was removed in this scenario. This Remaster keeps Cancel as a choice so he could've upgraded Life and then cancelled the upgrade after the boss to be 500XP away from upgrading his Attack.
@@Nicholas_Steel but it would have taken him 5 minutes tops to get the next level before using the crystal, so not really.
@@codywilliams7557 In the end it doesn´t matter, he generally does a good job in comparison to many of his other Lp´s ...
@@andreasgrunebaum811 you realize that what does and doesn’t matter, doesn’t matter as well? We can’t go back in time and have him redo the action, but it’s still ok to complain about a bad play. I’m not trash talking his life, or hoping he ends it all, or any other kind of extreme, I’m just saying what he has done (twice now) is wasting exp. Which it is, that literally can’t be argued.
Gotta say it; the updates to the palaces are the BIG highlight to this re-immagining of _Zelda II_ !
Obviously the horse is a prototype for the Master Cycle.
Any one know where I can find the first few episodes?
Well, we’re officially father than I (about) made it as a kid now. All new stuff for me from here! Woohoo!
Every time Jerd says "STOOPID", I feel the urge to punch my phone.
There's nothing in the box!
@@pigs18 And that's precisely why I still have a working phone.
Can this be downloaded/played on nvidia shield?
I haven't watched all Jared's other videos of his playthrough or other people's videos of this fan remake, but why is Jared pressing down while doing the jump-slash attack on the iron knuckles? when I do the attack on the original game, I always press attack as I land and 8 out of 10 times the attack will hit. Pressing down and attack just as you've pressed seems to just complicate the whole procedure. But I don't know if the remake changed that or not.
Not to mention when Jared was in death mountain fighting the axe guys. the easiest way to deal with them always go up against them and press down and attack directly after. they will usually never hit (ofc this works great with the orange one, not so much with the red... does a blue axe monster exist in the fan remake?)
Jared's math on those level ups is questionable and hurts.
He declines taking the HP up because he wanted the attack up. But like, he has to get those HP levels eventually. The next level assuming it wasn't changed should be HP for 2500. If he took the HP for 1500, he'd have got 2000 XP for the second life level up, instead of the 1000 he ended up getting for the one attack increase. I'm not sure the one Attack Boost a bit earlier is worth the total loss of around 1000 XP and getting two Life Levels.
does anyone else hear Brentalfloss singing?
I do, even after all these years...
I think I might have actually died from this. We’ll see
jared is the only one I've ever seen fighting the iron knuckles by crouch-jump-stabbing.
it's way easier to just jump attack.
does anyone else here use his method?
e: finished the vid now. he seems to know about the jump attack...guess he switches it up for the swag haha
Yes, I do it all the time and have done since childhood. In the original game this method actually gives you a better control hitting shielded enemies. It sometimes even pierces through the shild (except in the remake apparently). It worked even perfect on the first boss, but not so much in this version though.
Jared, I downloaded this exe from the link provided, and Windows flagged it as unsafe... Did you get that too and just ignored it?
Windows says everything is unsafe from that website. Just ignore it
The link is correct. Windows is just being silly.
I’ve downloaded and played through this multiple times. It’s safe.
Thanks guys, but I'm still hesitant. The last time I ran something MS flagged as unsafe, I was certain I downloaded a utility for my GFX card off google, only to find my bank account drained of money the next day. So you can understand my worry.
@@Kevinsyel Did you contact your bank for fraudulent use?
Could have leveled up before the boss and then get another level up by eating the boss
I missed a potion part somewhere, but where??
Im still kinda eh on the fairy spell. Yes it was OP.
But Link can now have his revange on THE CHICKEN...
Why Jared? Why must you always taunt us with your level ups?!
It hurt my soul how he wasted a life up level for no reason 😭
Yeah, I felt that one so much too.
