    HOW TO PRIME THE OIL SYSTEM PRIOR TO CRANKING THE ENGINE ON A DD15, THIS APPLIES FOR DD13 AND DD16 ENGINES ALSO.
    This is probably the most critical step when working on your DD13 and DD15 engine. Priming the oil system is the most critical step that is often overlooked. If you are replacing the rod and main bearings. Finishing up an in frame, overhaul or changing the oil suction module and orings.
    Priming the oil system PRIOR to cranking or starting your DD engine is MOST critical to help prevent engine failure.
    Tools and parts needed:
    13 (approximately) gallons of motor oil 15W-40 or 10W-30 depending on the year of the engine.
    1 new oil filter
    Oil priming adapter J-49181
    Manual oil pump

    I have a question, what do you use to clean the gasket surfaces, especially the head gasket surface? I work at a Detroit dealer and we are only allowed to use a scraper, no power tools.

      Mostly use a scraper, because of the material the block is made of. You might get away with using a light abrasive. Also use brake clean to remove as much of the contaminates as possible.

    Do you have to oil prime the engine if you just rplace oil pan gasket and pickup tube seals?

    • @CarlosDieselElectric
      @CarlosDieselElectric  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, I always prime the oil system especially after removing the oil suction system. You do this to prevent a dry start.

    Hello, what is the thread size on the oil priming tool/adapter on the smaller side? The side where you hook up the hose to oil the system not the side that goes into the oil filter housing

      @@CarlosDieselElectric Hello, thanks for the reply. yeah that’s the bigger side that goes into the oil filter housing module, what about the nipple that’s sticking out that you put the green hose on?

    Do you know the torque spec on a crankshaft damper for a DD15?

    • @CarlosDieselElectric
      @CarlosDieselElectric  Před rokem +1

      I can look it up tomorrow when I get back in. But just be sure, you are talking about the vibration damp on the main pulley?

      @@jptransport8830 you are welcome. I typically use a 1/2 impact on the bolts and that should be just fine.
