Man there's a lot of similarities between this and the GTI that key fob thing is the biggest one for me, I set the alarm off a lot! And most people don't realize just how good the sound system is inside of the VB WRX with the Harmon Kardon, to this day that is still one of the best sound systems I've ever heard in any car.
Right? The Harmon Kardon on the WRX was sooo good!

Great video man! Figured I'd respond to your points having owned a 2023 Golf R.
1. I agree about the key fob. Accidently turned on the horn several times in my pocket.
2. Cupholders weren't an issue for me
3. I agree I hate the piano black too on the interior. The exterior piano black looks nice imo.
4. I agree, exhaust could be much louder especially since it's valved.
5. I agree, sound system should be much better for being the "upgraded" stereo.
6. N/A I had a DSG
7. I had issues with my wireless carplay disconnecting too, and the front sensors randomly going off while at stop lights.
Thanks for sharing your realisitc thoughts on the Golf R. Overall great vehicle, but nothings perfect.

Get rid of all auto loans forever less wrinkles/stress. These pieces of metal aren't worth a early death. Instead drive old stuff be grateful 🙏

@Gonin60 haha I've had so many auto loans too but prices since covid make me cringe refuse. I paid $44k for a brand new C7 corvette manual in 2019 my last good deal I'll ever get lol

No car is perfect. Glad you pointed out those things you didn't like. Impossible to cater to everyone. I have a 7.5 R. It's been a great car and I am tempted to get the Mk8 or maybe wait for the Mk8.5. I love the look and the power difference. I've kept up with maintenance, Oil, DSG, Haldex, tires, filters, sparkplugs, brakes. I have a Lapiz Blue but wish VW would make more colors (spektrum), that would flip me for sure into a new Golf R.
7.5 is so good! And you’re right no car is perfect. I think they limit colors on the R to make it more special but IDK. Is Spektrum a greenish metallic color?
@@Gonin60 The ‘Spektrum’ color program was offered by VW for the Golf R for 2019. It allowed you to choose from over 30 colors. They had an ‘Irish Green’ that I liked but the other colors were awesome as well. Look it up. I think there might be a power bump for the 8.5. Yes, the 7.5 is a great car but not perfect either.
@@ericcarson342 ah will do! Now that mention this I think I recall some years they did this. Had all sorts of fun colors.
The HK may not be great but if the sliders are in a sort of smile shape it sounds a lot better. It does have niggles that should have been resolved before launch.

No. I don’t mind hill assist. Several cars I have owned have had it but it’s way way too aggressive.
2024 White DSG GOLF R. I have it since November last year. Zero problems, great vehicle. My 2024 BMW X3M is faster, but now with stage 1 low torque APR on GOLF R they are close.
That’s awesome! I have thought about tuning mine I just don’t know how the clutch will hold up.
I have a 2024 Lapiz Blue Manual R... The car is amazing... I can't wait to go APR Stage 3 in it. She gonna be a beast.

It's great to see that you're enjoying the car, Austin (as these seem to be all minor complaints in your eyes). Like you, I'm willing to compromise a little more on a daily driver knowing that I have a fun car waiting for me at home!

Thanks man! It needs an oil change but yeah I try to bring it out once or twice a week. I want to drive it more though.
my biggest complaint coming from the MK7 was the stereo... the Fender was awesome, the HK needed an aftermarket sub installed. But once I did that the car stereo sounds amazing.

i hate my mk8 golf gtd dsg🙁 the seats squeeze my body out and hurts my back. i find it very uncomfortable with no thigh extension.

Good list. Piano black is universally hated. Why do they keep doing it? The stablemate S3 doesn’t have any of those annoyances.

slap an APR 93 Octane Stage I high torque tune on it, and get the AWE Track Exhaust... the car is plenty rowdy after that.
I worry the clutch won’t handle it. Have you heard it can?
@@Gonin60 humblemechanic ran the 034 motorsport high torque tune for over a year, no issues on the stock clutch. Hopefully I'll have the same luck with APRs high torque tune. I don't launch it or track it, just spirited city driving.
@@du3lcitiz3n yeah I think I saw that. I have seen some GTI owners immediately notice clutch slip. I don’t know if clutches are similar though. I would want to see a large sample size not have issues before doing it.

I've been stage 1 low torque for 4K miles, high torque 1k miles, no issues so far. I plan on upgrading the clutch eventually when I go stage 2 or 3.
Kinda first world issues, wouldn’t you say? Also, doesn’t that subwoofer take up too much cargo space? I dunno. I think many people would trade places with someone who can afford a nice $45K hot hatch that does 0-60 in 4 seconds? Gratitude my friend! No vehicle is perfect! I would like to see how you remove scratches from the piano black trim though!

The only thing I didn’t like about my MK7 was the looks of an econobox. Since I got an S5 people compliment me at the gas station or out driving and never noticed my Golf.

I think the low key looks of the R are a positive. Not everyone wants to be flashy and be an attention getter, especially when it comes to the po-po 😉

I think I must be the only person in the world who likes piano black, lol, at least when it's new and clean, but as you said, if you breathe on it, it will scratch.
The level of technology does get ANNOYING. Every time I'm backing in somewhere, or any close low speed maneuvering for that matter, the sensors will start beeping, which has the effect of freaking me out a bit. How about having the car suggest not idling, nor driving with the windows down. It's like-enough already!
The auto-stop/start is highly annoying too. But really, most of the annoyances on the car are fairly small, and in no way were a deal-breaker for me. I think some of the more common complaints have actually been addressed in the mk 8.5.
Really, my biggest complaint is not actually with the car itself, but with the dealerships. I inquired about wanting to do some minor performance mods (cat-back exhaust, sway bar), and was told my car would be flagged as modified, and my factory warranty would potentially be voided.
Very fair points! I’m not familiar with these having stop start? Are those on the autos? I didn’t think they had that.
I too had bad experiences with the dealerships!
I’m curious to see how the mk8.5 is and how it’s received. I hope they produce and sell a lot of them.

So I totally disagree with your comments as a mk8R owner albeit a UK specc'd car with dsg as standard.
The piano black is part of the design and like most things you hust have to be careful not to scratch it.
I mean you wabt a hill start thay allows the car to roll?
If you want more noise then change the exhaust and go full fast and furious if thats what you want.
The car is designed for a specific market and isnt cheap so they know who their aiming it at i guess

Brand new, needed a replacement steering wheel, dropped a cylinder, rear tyre sensor faulty from new, up volume button not working, centre screen black half the time, in reverse screen usually blank, radar cruise wouldn’t work half the time and kept beeping every 30 seconds (vw could not turn off beep) front windows would sometimes go up instead of down…. VW nz aftercare service shockingly poor 👎👎👎
Wow! I’m sorry to hear that. You really had a lot of issues on it. Did they lemon law it or take it back?
