You can run a 1000c battery on a 50a esc. It’s only if the motor can draw too much current and the battery can supply that current that a esc will die from too much current.

The *exact* video that I was looking for. I'm *brand* brand new to the hobby with very little knowledge of lipo care that's carried over from airsofting. C rating isn't something that we had to consider in airsoft, at least not back when I was active. I have only just ordered my first rc car on an impulse, hyper go 14303, and was thoroughly confused by the 25C first party battery packs being so expensive. I started looking at 3rd party packs only to see 50C+ being the most common and readily accessible. After running amperage calcs to see if the 45amp esc, that I think the 14303 has, could handle the 50C+ packs... I ended up scared myself off any of those high C rated battery packs. Elsewhere online makes this all out to be a "Bigger peg than the hole" kind of issue where having a higher C rating will kill your esc immediately.

Something you also need to know about using a too small battery: The battery itself can be damaged(Puffing up/explode) if you try to drain it faster then it's rating.
For example: Trying to drain 200Amps from a battery rated at 80Amps.

    • @extec101

I knew most of this stuff before what hing this video, like voltage, and mAh (but I didn't know that too low of a mAh rating can harm the car). However, in places like C ratings, I had a fuzzy idea of it, but it wasn't clear to me. After watching, I understand! Thanks Richie! I'm going to be keeping this video in my watch later for future reference, or for recommending to friends!

    • @DriftomaniacsRC

A lot of people worry about the C rating, but basically it's like filling your car up with premium gas not regular! It really won't harm the enigne! It's the current draw from the motor etc that is the main worry. Even when Is started this channel with just 1 rc car I always bought the highest C batteries I could afford

Hi Richie, with no information in the manual and the size of battery in the 'Extras' Package' offered for sale with the car how do you calculate the right size battery for your car? I have a Axial SCX6 Honcho for 'Trail Walking', the suggested battery size 11.1 Lipo. I only use NiMH batteries (my own choice) and it would seem a 9.6 volt Nimh might be a good alternative. Could I go lower say 8.4 V or 7.2? I understand from your excellent Video how mAh can effect the run time, I think 56000 mAh is the highest I can get but I could carry a couple of 3000 mAh batteries for equal run time. Hey, new to rc hobby. Just ordered an Infraction for my first car. I was thinking about getting 2 3s 150c lipo batteries, but I wanted to know if running 2 6s batteries parallel would give me more run time?

Yes running two 6s in parrallel would dramatically increase the run time, HOWEVER I would wait as Gensace are just about to release some huge batteries for Arrma's like 15000Mah huge!

Been struggling to find a pair of batteries for my xmaxx. I dont havr the charger and batteries yet. And im not getting the traxxas batteries and chargers since they are expensive. What do you recommend for a powerful amd long lasting battery for it? And what cheap charger can charge them ?

Hello. This is Loyd. Is it possible to run a 7.4 lipo battery to a rc truck that's running 7.2 nickel metal hydride battery?. Is there any possible negative thing that would happen to the whole system? Thanks.

    Good detailed explanation.
I have RC rock crawler which runs say 10-15 mins on Ni-Cd battery of 4.8V 700MmAh. If I use 2500 mAh battery (Ni-Cd, 4.8 V) does it mean I can get more than 3 times run time? Or there is something more which I didn't understand.

you get more run time but not exactly 3 times more you get more speed you top out your engines power as the stock or low capacity batteries dont push the car to top speed like it has top speed 50kmph and runs at 40kmph on stock 1100mah battery
