- Angel 35262. "The importance of the piano part in a song is shown, how it paints pictures, tells stories, evokes moods. And some of the problems are discussed -- with point and wit -- such as balance and transposition. Among Lieder used as examples are Schubert's Wohin, Auf dem Wasser zu Singen, Der Lindenbaum, Das Wandern, Wanderers Nachtlied, Tränenregen, Frühlingstraum, Die Allmacht, Im Frühling, Der Einsame and Erlkönig, and Brahms' Vergebliches Ständchen and Der Schmied."

Ein ganz Großer, der wußte, worauf es in der Musik ankommt!
Thank you so much for sharing this!
A pleasure.
Quite educational and at the same time artistic. His English is also quite intelligible and comfortable, a kind of standard in the fifties. Thanks for the precious upload!
Interesting. Thanks David.
Very well narrated and described.I have never heard an acompanist better than Gerald Moorel.
Wonderful lesson for an accompanist. Heard it years ago when I was a student, and he was giving a lecture, in Sydney Town Hall, I think. Made a huge difference to how I accompanied singers.
Thank you for your message, greatly appreciated. David
I love the story that startsAt 45:16. This really shows what an amazing pianist he was. As a pianist I can tell you it’s incredibly difficult to play as softly as he does
What a treat! I was a voice major at college in the 1970s, and we singers used to play this at parties. I have not heard this in decades, but I find I am remembering every word.
Thank you very much for sharing.
WONDERFUL ~ thank you, david !!! My favorite accompanist by far. What a talented & witty man. What a precious presentation !
I used to hear parts of this recording on WFMT Chicago back in the 1970s and 80s. I particularly remember (and occasionally imitate) the "is too high.... is too low" story. Thanx for posting this!!!
Fantastic!❤️❤️❤️
Magnificent!! Thank you. Educational and didactic presentation. Thank you very much for sharing this treasure.
Rafael Kubelik, importante Maestro que encantou minha juventude!
