Thanks for sharing these videos. I am attempting to rebuild my first TH400 with the help of your videos. Question though, so I should be able to slide a .007 feeler gauge down in the rear case bearing area with the output shaft pushed fully forward correct? I have the roller bearing with the bushing that has the lip on it the bearing fits around.
I am sure someone makes a valve body that is automatic but deletes the front band. Maybe Jakes Performance or ATD. The case saver goes where the band was. Thanks for watching
I have been fighting 1-2 shifts in my 70 Buick GS running high 10's for years. I have had to replace the case after breaking the bell off and I'm thinking that's when it got worse but broke 3 sprags I think. Running an unknown Reverse Manual Valve body and a 2.75 low gear for 20 or more years and trying to do it right this time. How can I directly email you or face book and then I don't have to check me email all the time.
@@mountainsgarage If it changes its 3 speeds and R perfectly, everything is fine. The only thing that needs a lot of rpm to move from Stop, much more rpm than normal. I have tried another similar car and it moves with little acceleration, mine needs a lot of rpm to move.
Yes I like the aluminum version that bolts through the case and front band hole by FTI or Transmission Specialties that sells around $50. There are also smaller metal versions.
Thanks Shawn , great video . You truly are a TH400 parts junkie ! lol
new subscriber thank you for the content.
Really been watching your videos on building a th400 trying to get the nerve up to build one
Really like these build videos. Would like to see one on a 2 speed th400. ;)
I just might! Thanky!
Gotta have potato salad and sweet tea! We like it Texas sweet here 🤪😎
Do you have a more detailed video on drilling the overflow?
This video almost gives me the confidence to rip apart and rebuild a trans. Great job
cf mechanic Just do it, nothing but nuts and bolts!

That or use a dial indicator.
And Thanks for watching!
can you tell me where to get the spiroloxc from and the part number the big one and small one
Great video! Can you run the Case Saver with a automatic valve body?
I am sure someone makes a valve body that is automatic but deletes the front band. Maybe Jakes Performance or ATD. The case saver goes where the band was.
Thanks for watching
I just saw that Sonnex now makes a case saver that retains the front band, so any valve body will work.

Do you stake your rear bushing to the case if so what do you use?
I have the J tool to stake it, but cylindrical part bonding locktite is my choice.
Did you ever upload the second part of this video
Yes 8 videos on this transmission assembly.
i have a th400 in a 6.2 diesel k5. I have a lot of engine roms and I get little power. What could be failing?
Is it shifting? The 6.2 has a vacuum pump that feeds the vacuum modulator so it will shift. Check to see if it’s making vacuum?

Do you have any suggestions for manuals on building a th400
I have the ASTG manual, the blue one you can find on Amazon or Ebay.
There are a couple books that have nice color pictures out there also.
@@mountainsgarage thanks for your help and keep up the videos can't wait to see the 6.0 fire up

Do you ever install case savers in these?

I actually install one at 17:22 in this video.
@@mountainsgarage Thanks.
Hey Shawn where are you located would like to have u set up my 400 turbo
Maine, You?
I bought a used th400 with trans-brake, it leaking from vent tube as soon as I start the car, any idea what can be causing this?
Thanks
Pressure is entering the vent passage in the pump or at the pump gasket. That would be my guess.
@@mountainsgarage I don't do transmissions, but I might give the gasket a shot, thank you
@@jesusm2797 Nothing to lose! Need help just ask!
@@mountainsgarage thanks
