  • In Episode 113 we visit Walter and his Numbers Matching 1979 Solar Gold Pontiac Trans Am with the 400 T/A Pontiac engine!
    After purchasing his T/A Walter has been in the process of reviving the car while still keeping it in it’s original form! From the original paint to the original radio… You are going to love what Walter has been doing to this classic American muscle car.
    In this episode we are joined by Pontiac expert Ron Browne. Ron and his crew were featured in Episode 1 and 87 of Cars, Shops & Collections. It’s in episode 87 that we first see Walter’s Trans Am back when Ron was in the midst of rebuilding the 400 T/A Engine!
    In this episode we do a full bumper to bumper breakdown of the Solar Gold Trans Am. We get another glimpse at Ron’s 1973 T/A… and we end Walter taking us on a head turning ride along!
    A HUGE thank you to Walter & Ron for taking the time showcase this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am.

    Solar Gold code 50 debuted in 1978, not 1977. There was no "Gold Edition" in 1979, only 1978 and it was a Y88.

      There are three mandatory options for a ‘79 T/A, W72 Package, WS6 Package, and T-Tops. That ‘73 is to drool over but a Solar Gold hardtop with body side moldings even with hobnail seats certainly doesn’t deserve all the drama expressed.

      @@MarkRoberts-bj2me It's a nice car, but I don't buy anything that's not a limited edition or rare. I don't consider 403 cars, they are parts cars to me. Nothing wrong with an Oldsmobile engine, but they never belong in a Pontiac. It has to be a Y84 400/4 speed and not just any one. I want one with every option. I have a 10th Anniversary 400/4 speed and that's the next rarest beside the 1979 Y84/W72.

    The 79 gold one is definitely cool, but the bull nose is where it's at! In my opinion the bull nose is the ultimate Firebird, and one of the better looking 70s muscle cars, i would really like to own one

      Your talking about thé W72, thé 220 hp t/a 6.6. Thé l78 was just another Pontiac 400, rated et 180 hp that came standard on 77 and 78 modèles. Thé hood scoop also read 6.6 liter. Also thé w72_had chrome valve covers.
      In 79 thé w72 only came with a 4 SPD. They s'y thé HP was actually closer to 260. They actually ran out of thé W72 engine, only 3 month s into thé modèle year.
      Most of thé other 79 TAs, came with thé 185 HP L80, 6.6 liter Olds 403

      Thats incorrect. L78 was not thé engine that was under rated. L78 was thé standard 180 HP Pontiac 400 that was standard fin 77 nd 78 Transport ams.

      @@googleusergp competition was nonexistent in 79. The even uglier mustang and the gutless corvette sure weren’t. The Z-28 sold about 1/3 as many as TA’s, though better styled.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp Před 2 měsíci

      @@GregZentTrumpetMan Not really correct. All of the cars were competition as was the Nissan Z, Toyota Supra and some German competitors. Either way, consumers had a choice and they chose the Firebird----to the tune of over 200,000 of them, half of which were Trans Ams. All of that during a recession and double digit inflation. Every one was likely sold at MSRP or higher.
      My 10th Anniversary 400/4 speed was sold for $13K+ as a leftover in late 1979 and that didn't include the $500 "motivation" that the original owner gave the salesman to get a 400/4 speed car over a 403 Olds car.

      I kinda agree, the gold paint doesn't help either, they look much better in black for some reason. This said, I think the previous front end was much better looking, and it seems like the face lift was done just for the sake of it. The best looking Firebird is in my opinion, no doubts whatsoever, the bull nose.
