    I used to go to school below the Empire State building. Yes there was a school underground. After school I would go to work at Houlihan"s and El Torito Restaurant. The bar was on the first floor and the restaurant below ground. The school was below that. It was Betty Owens Travel And Tourism School.

      Oh man, when I first moved to Philly in 2004, friends showed me an access to the tunnels in a parking lot by 30th. It connected to the basement of an abandoned utility building. There was a giant smoke stack on top, and we climbed up a few rungs, but were too scared to go much further.
      They demolished the building in 2009. So many spots like that in Philly that no longer exist.

    • @caesiusgeo
      @caesiusgeo Před rokem +7

      @A B I saw many people under those tunnels so I think it's just a matter of finding the access points

    • @calisingh7978
      @calisingh7978 Před rokem +3

      Is it city built upon city? Does the structure match the given time lines or do you think it’s much older?

    • @caesiusgeo
      @caesiusgeo Před rokem +8

      @Cali Singh no, these tunnels had many uses but were built from the 1800s to the 1950s
      Some are abandoned tunnels between old stations for the subway. Some were used to move mail from train cars to the Philadelphia mail building (across the street)
      Some are maintenance tunnels
      Some are sewage or electrical/data tunnels
      It's all a mishmash of usage and I don't know why some of the tunnels were there. They seemed to go on forever

    • @caesiusgeo
      @caesiusgeo Před rokem +2

      @Cali Singh no city on a city because Philly isn't old enough for that. Europe has some of those but it's hard to do that in just 200 years

It was a picture-perfect, clear sunny day, and I could see for miles, all of the boroughs, the Verranzo-Narrows Bridge, and out towards the ocean! WOW!
