I visited NYC as a kid in 2009 and the Empire State Building blew me away. When my dad and I arrived in the taxi, I walked up to the building and just looked up as it towered over me. It was an incredible sight (I lived in Springfield, MO). We then walked in to the lobby and the massive ceilings and granite and copper were so beautiful. We got in the elevator and it accelerated upward so hard my knees buckled. I arrived at the 86th floor in maybe 40 seconds. The views from the observatory deck were so mind bending. That trip changed my view on life forever. Also, the subways, the holes where the two World Trade center buildings were (they were MASSIVE!) and Grand Central Station were incredible sights to behold.
👋 Greetings from near Springfield, MO.
I GUESS U ONLY SEEN THE TOURIST SIDE OF NYC.. AIN'T EVEN SEE THE RATS BIG ENOUGH TO HAVE 2 PIECES OF ID ON EM????
I’m so jealous it’s been my dream to visit New York all my life..❤
@@mekboppqiss571you seem like the most mentally sane new yorker..
What blows my mind is they cut all this stone in Bloomington and Bedford Indiana then shipped all this to New York. Pretty cool such small towns helped build so many skyscrapers.
If it ain’t pawnee I don’t want it
We swam in all of those quarries.
My father lives in Bloomington,In . Such a beautiful state
It is awesome.
Sad that the City has to revert to taking about the Empire State Building without referencing the WTC. 😢
One of the most iconic structures ever built. There really is a kind of magic about it, one random glance walking down a random avenue, and it somehow inspires you to try and do greater things.
Planning a visit to NYC in 2023. First stop - ESB. Second stop - Chrysler Building. The two stunning Art Deco skyscrapers that NYC has to offer. There are no others. And nearly 100 years on, they may not be the tallest anymore ... but they are the coolest skyscrapers that we all want to see in person.
Walk Broadway from chambers to 14th and 90/Riverside Drive area.
Did you end up visiting? I went up the ESB for the first time this year and it was amazing - though quite busy!
No matter how many times you look at the "Empire State" you'll always get inspired by it's brilliance.
Until some "terrorist" demolishes it to trigger a war... Aah, aah...?
Get it?
😉

I would have liked to see some more detail on exactly how those air ducts work, because I still have no idea and this sounds very interesting; but I also understand that might be beyond the scope of this video. Well done; it's entertaining, well-edited, and very interesting!
Right it was the reason I clicked
Hope to see it someday in person: czcams.com/video/EdoZMurKQJA/video.html
My wife and I are old enough to recoil and have a "moment" anytime a pre-9/11 New York skyline appears in our movies/tv moments. The Empire State building kinda endures. This is special. The building is special. Really cool that it is being actively upgraded. $0.02
it's hard to describe THAT feeling seeing the twin towers in movies and stuff
It's insane it was built so quickly. I'd love to see something half that size, be built in twice as long..
They do empire size complexes in Dubai due to non existing labor laws
I use to deliver to the walgreens on the first 2 floors of the empire state building twice a week for many months. Was always amazed by this building every time I went there
I have to say, the editing and graphics in this video are superb. Interesting video, and great job to the editing team! And amazing shots of the city as well
Thanks so much! We really appreciate the kind words.
Pretty distracting to me looks like someone just learned transitions now thats all hes about
I've always wanted to go to NYC. As an American, it's a shame I've never been there. I want to see the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building in person. Art Deco is such a gorgeous style!
Trust me...you're not missing much. I've worked in that area and been to meetings and events in the building. It's like any other office building in NYC tbh...Maybe a good view depending on location, height, direction, and if there's a private terrace.
NYC is a shit hole it is amazing to me how great people think it is
I went to the observation deck in 1968 as a teen. I’d rather look out my windows and see moose and mountains like where I live now.
Take the time and go while you can. You will not be disappointed.
What a wonderful piece of history! I had no idea it was built in over a year. Incredible engineering.
It's such a shame to see how modern architecture has regressed compared to the elaborate and elegant designs of the 20th century
It's amazing that it was built so fast especially for the time
It was because of the times. No red tape or burdensome Union or safety standard regulations.
The empire state building was actually modeled after the original Reynolds building in Winston-Salem, NC! The same men built both!
@@johnperic6860 They won building of the year with the Reynolds Building in WS which got them the job in New York
Fun fact: the design for the ESB was first tried out in miniature form here in Winston-Salem NC with the Reynolds building. Every year, on father's day, the custodial staff at the ESB sends a card to the custodial staff at the Reynolds building.
The Empire State Building is a beauty!! ♡
grandfather of me, worked on empire state building. Where we all once lived in my family.
And I did get to go inside. Never did step foot on liberty island, but my grandparents did from Europe.
Incredible how fast it was built. I think the family home I grew up in was built in half the time.
Well there were 3,400 construction laborers who worked on the construction, when you have that MANY people working 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week stuff gets done FAST. The real brilliancy was the one who generated the supply and work schedules, they had limited access, traffic to deal with etc to bring in raw materials, the materials had to be brought in on a very tight specific timeslot so workers wouldnt run out of work because something was misdelivered, and in perfect sequence due to limited storage space- what was delivered was ready to be installed, no men waiting around for it, no materials piling up.
Out of the 10 million bricks ordered, ONE was left over- it was on display in a showcase on the 86th floor back around 1972 when I went.
@@HobbyOrganist That's crazy. There are tons of projects today that could use such a brilliant organisation.
One of my favorite empire state building light shows I've ever seen was for the 30th anniversary of phantom of the Opera where they programmed the lights to flicker with the melody
AHHHHH, AMAZING 😭💕
Out of all the scenes, I most love to see the glossy, painted mechanical equipment.
I’ve been there & seen it many times it’s beauty is timeless! It would be great if we had another roaring decade, probably never again in our lifetime.
WHAT A GREAT VIEW OF THE CITY WHEN YOU GO ON TOP OF THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
It probably sounds cheesy, but I want to tour the Skyscraper Museum one day.
Want to know a real secret about the Empire State Building?
The red marble in the entrance hall is very rare and comes from Germany. You can find it in old buildings in the Lahn region, they stopped mining it in the 50s.
It’s too bad that many US cities tore their old buildings dating back before the skyscrapers and highways. US cities just look bland nowadays.
Are you talking about Tartaria?
Until the last decade or so, NYC looked very bland too with the exception of maybe 5-10 buildings. It's not a beautiful, clean, or even well-functioning, city. It's the best thing in NYC though.
not always. nyc is largely historic. same with san francisco, it’s very well preserved
The blimp mythology is so ingrained that when saying that it was never feasible to tie up blimps, she still refers to it as the mooring mast.

I have a 78rpm recording my father made while he and his Navy buddy were atop the Empire State Building in Oct 1956. He sent it to his mother back home in Indiana. He describes what they could see and what they had been doing . They had seen the movie Giant at the Roxy.
I know I’m asking a lot but is there anyway you could record and upload this? It’s incredible and maybe the only record of this.
@@PartnershipsForYou I can try. Years ago I posted it to fb
“Blimp” a word that comes from “British or Balloon and Limp” is not an interchangeable word with Zeppelin. The proper word is dirigible airship or simply airship. Airships of this era were rigid. The non-rigid “limp” ones would never have been running passenger service from Germany. They were more observation posts, decoys for larger airships, and much later, the floating billboards we know and love. (And even some of those went back to a rigid frame design with the latest “NT” generation.)
Who cares bruv
Thank you.
I think Goodyear is using some NTs now, But they sit in an interesting place where its still the "Goodyear Blimp" because that is the branding.
I went a couple weeks ago during sunset and into night and honestly what a spectacle it was. Definitely best part of the trip.
Though imo Chrysler building looks better! (But you do get a great view of it from the ESB)
Sadly you can no longer tour the Chrysler Building
I have the 'Puzz 3D' model, found it for £4.99 in a thrift shop this year. Always wanted one, now I just need some time to build it. Some LEDs too, for sure !
I have a meter tall 3D puzzle of it myself which I have not put together yet either.
How in the hell do you build a skyscraper in 410 day. Hell we need them boys to come back and show us young bucks what's up.
No thanks. I’ll enjoy the pension credits. Let’s not work ourselves out of work
great content. Thanks for sharing
At 9:49 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 1945, a B-25 bomber, lost in fog over Manhattan, slammed into the 79th floor of the Empire State Building, killing 14 people and injuring two dozen.
4:45 "It looks like a scene from 1992!"
That was weird
Interesting,
As a little kid I remember seeing an article in TIME magazine where they told of the installation of curved security fencing up at the top of the building in order to stop people from committing suicide jumps from off the top of the building,
I remember seeing a Black and white photo of some lady who had jumped off the top of the building and had landed as well as crashed down into the top of some car,
It was a pretty gory scene,
The top or roof of whatever vehicle was crushed in by that person’s weight,
Keep in mind that vehicles of the time were manufactured out of heavy gauge steel,
But the impact of that person’s body crushed the top of that vehicle,
This photo that I saw was out of a TIME Magazine hard cover book,
Definitely nothing that a little kid such as I was at the time should be looking at,
But it was over at my
Neighbors house ,
So it was just me looking,
My parents had absolutely no idea of what I had seen,
The whole thing was definitely a bit bizarre,
And at the time I really had no concept about any of this mess,
It was definitely TRAGIC
The photographer just happened to be right there, and took the shot without thinking. She was very pretty, and he called the photo “World’s most beautiful suicide”. She thought she was ugly.
@@sophierobinson2738wow ,
That really puts some context into that photograph,
I was just a little kid at the time and my thinking was that some news reporter showed up at the event and took that picture so that they ( or them ) could get whatever scoop??,
Again I was just a little kid and this definitely wasn’t something that I should have even seen, due to my age,
However it was definitely a very sad scene for someone to take their life ,
Many thanks for giving me some background info on that,
Please remember to keep your hands clean and washed up at all times so that you can protect yourself and all of those people around you,
Stay safe and prayers
Life magazine often ran quite graphic pics in it's weekly issues. They did not sugarcoat things
Man my vertigo kicks in just watching those guys !
Same here 😊
They never covered the military plane that accidentally crashed into the building in 1945 due to heavy fog
That's too cool! Thanks.
4:40 - it did amuse me how the narrator said it looked like a scene from 1992 - now 30 years ago 😂
Great to see Season 2!
A nice video. The Empire State Buliding's lightning attraction saves many buildings that are close by from ightning hits. .
This was a good one!
I see why Peter-three and King Kong would climb here, it is a pretty sweet view.
!'d like to see a detailed video tour of the Empire State building's 103rd floor (Yes it has one) that's above the 102nd floor observation room and it contains transmission gear but occasionally over the years celebrities have been there. And then I'd like to see a video tour of the cramped 104th floor (It's the cone-shaped room (5:16) upon which the transmission antenna assembly is mounted) which only technicians are allowed into (It also has transmission electronics too).
Was up there 2 weeks ago, done all the observation decks in NY but this was my favourite.
4.5 stories per week back then!!? Wow that's impressive
I'm not only one of the tallest buildings in the world; I'm one of the coolest as well!
There is no bldg in the world like the Empire State Bldg. It's beautiful very Retro in & out... God Bless keep it safe!❤🙏🇺🇸
The "King of All Buildings" baby!!
Maravilloso edificio 😊☺️ el empire state
I love my city!!!!!!!
Most recently my cousin and I got off the express bus on 5th Ave and 34th st. When he hit the payment, he looked up , pointed at the sky scraper. And yelled 3 times ,Kong Kong Kong . Suddenly every citizen on all 4 corners looked up. It’s just imbedded in all of us 😂🤣😀
The editing on this video is premo 🔥
Another beautiful lobby entrance is the rarely noted Woolworth Building
Nice video, I'm surprised that there wasn't a mention about the bomber crashing into in after WWII.
"You hear New York"
*sirens blaring*
It’s part of the local wildlife 😁
It jus the right mixture of old school with a skyscraper.

"it looks like a video from 1992" when the 90's was the distant future to ponder about lol
Gotta be the best looking building out there
Such a beautiful building. I think its the most famous tower ever
I live in Bloomington and I went to school in Bedford I love that we r apart of American history
The Stock Market Crash happened in 1929! The building was built in 1930-31! That means that the building started construction AFTER the Stock Market Crash and the beginning of the Great Depression. It's weird that people keep acting like the Great Depression was this big massive event that happened all at once. It wasn't. It was a series of disasters that happened one after the other. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 was one such event. The Dust Bowl was another. This idea that they started building the Empire State Building before the Great Depression and then it happened all of a sudden right before the finished building it is ridiculous.
Presumably planning, financing, etc. took place before actual construction began. So it is possible that the project started before the Great Depression, and that the first few setbacks of it were seen as temporary glitches that would resolve themselves by the time construction was done.
A lot of shit was built in the 30s. It was a way to get people to work. Pretty sure most highways, interstates, and dams went up at this time. I didnt think anyone in this documentary was saying what you somehow heard.
@@ispartacus1337 Technically Eisenhower started the official Interstate Highway system in the 50s, but I assume you are correct about the older US Highway system.
10:29 DID THE GUY BURPED??? HAHHA
There may be taller buildings out there but to me, the Empire State Building will always be the king of them all.
@4:43 looks like a scene from 1992
Wow !
i ve been there too !!! ❤️❤️❤️
I been to New York many times but i only FEEL that I’m in New York once I’ve see the ESB!
A blimp uses the lifting gas pressure to maintain it's shape, like a balloon.
Zeppelins had a rigid frame that kept the shape of the craft.
Both zeppelins and blimps can be called dirigibles because they are steerable.
Art Deco magic
Cool 👌
Elegance defined
This is the first time i got convinced by a video ad
Tubes beneath the upper floor windows were provided for parachutes however none were ever installed .
I wish they discussed the three aircraft strikes (non terrorist) on the building. The Bomber is most interesting
Tuff lads to walk those beams
David raised the sword as King as a king even
You gotta have a lot of courage to be so high up in the air, during construction.
Holy SHIIIIT! That chiller holds 2,800 pounds of A/C refrigerant‼️ To put that in perspective, a typical vehicle holds around 4.5lbs, give or take a pound. DAMN‼️ Thats just insane!
this structure always makes me think of 'The Fountainhead"
anyone know what the engineered lifespan of the empire state building is? what happens when it goes over this?
4 a building of its era about 100 year design life, but thats not set in stone. So long as its been well maintained (& i suspect thats the case) & there's not any major corrosion issues wt the steelwork, it will be good for decades more, if not centuries. The effiel tower was only supposed to last a year & its still standing.
as long as you don't get your grimy hands on it itll be fine
@ 11:00 😄 but I thought the caption is “secret’s revealed” lal
How much are all the measurements in metric units?
The ESB dosen't sway, it vibrates! And it's maxamum movement is 1/4 of an inch! A fact that few people would believe!
Hey ho, early notification squad!
when I see her as I get near the city, I know I'm "back in the New York Groove!"
4 1/2 stories a week is crazy. Very hard working men back then!
The Empire State Building is an Art Deco *grande dame* of a certain age - the queen of New York City. In her Fortuny-pleated beige limestone gown, to the glowing lights of her headgear, she stands as a beacon to those who need a light to guide them. Her sister the Chrysler Building is the disreputable aunt the family doesn't like to tell the kids about. And her taller and more stylish granddaughter stands downtown, trying to emulate her famous ancestor. For most of my life, that has been my favorite place in the city. (And I haven't been up any of the newer buildings, except One World Trade Center, which isn't worth the price of admission).
4:37 It looked like a scene from 1992!
I heard it to 1992 lol
The iron workers are the story to me. Can’t look past them once you learn about them
I’ve always had a desire to visit New Jersey, but then I came to my senses😩
The Empire State Building wii always be the tallest building to me. I had no desire to see the Twin Towers or the new World Trade Center. It's hard to berlieve the tickets now cost $45. I saw it in the 1890s and didn't pay more than a couple bucks.
It stands on the site of the original Waldorf Astoria. ✌️
Love Cheddar, but this one didn’t deliver. I was expecting secrets of the building and all we got were a few images of the wind tunnels and two or three obscure facts and a lot of history…
The internal structure is steel. The outer laments are stainless, and aluminum.
The empire state building is known around the world since it was built.sept2022.
Did we watch just an ad to visit the building one day?
