That's the hallmark of a great singer. Someone who knows how to harmonize and adapt to their singing partners. There are many good singers in the world but not many will know how to harmonize when they are doing a duet or singing in a group. It's actually harder than it looks.

@@Smackblood As an artist, yes. As a vocalist, very underrated. Many know her sweet voice as a quiet singer/songwriter, few comment on how wonderful her technique is, her range and versatility. Many don't even know she can belt with the best of them and sing up high in the 6th.
Agreed, she’s been underrated as someone who can belt a note since she hit the scene. She’s always been more celebrated as a songwriter more than a vocalist. I’ve ALWAYS held her in very high regard but I enjoy singers who sound like nobody else. She’s one of those talented women that simply cannot be replicated.

That is so true. There never has been anything like Jewel in this world. Those things she can do with her voice. There has never been anybody in the history of singing popular music even close that talent. Forget Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin. Jewel is so beyond. But to be honest most of her songs are very average. But those couple of diamonds Jewel has brought to life...they are true masterpieces.

Kelly comes from the country/folk female singer tradition of being able to share the performance with other singers. Think Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt, all powerful singers yet able to support each other.
And beyond country/folk, there are the incredible duets Carol Burnett sang with some of the world's best, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Julie Andrews, Cass Elliott being only some of them. If you can find them, they are incredible to watch. So many of the younger people never knew that Burnett was a trained singer.

3:19 as a singer myself, I keep replaying because it's unbelievable the power in Jewels voice after all these years. I loved the song 25 years ago as a teenager and I love it even more 25 years later. Music really is a time machine and this song took me back.

I've always loved Jewel... When I was 7 I had Guillian Barre syndrome and I was in a medically induced coma. Jewel was on the radio and that was the first time I had made any movement (bopping my head). She's special and her voice is special ❤️
I shared a hospital room with a girl who had guilliam barre. She suffered sooo! I was paralyzed on my left side but felt worse for her! I'm so very sorry you went thru that and I pray and hope you're doing much much better 💞🙏

However, I'd like to argue that Jewel could not sing a Kelly Clarkson song. I think it's the fact "Foolish Games" is so suitable for Jewel, it cannot be matched, and vice versa for Kelly Clarkson.
In short, nobody can sing Foolish Games the way Jewel can. It's so suitable for her voice and so uniquely beautiful.
That's merely my opinion however, not saying I'm right nor wrong, just disagreeing that Kelly held back. She could never deliver the song how Jewel can.

@@davemac8617 exactly. As I said before. Both have unique singing styles and tones. And just because kelly holds back and refrains doesn't mean she can't. Kelly has a true 4 octave range and 3\16 semi including bars and inhale exhale whistle. . Jewel is 1 octave 9\16 semis. They call her 2 but it's 1 and a bit more. And both make amazing use of their range. Hell the eagles lead singer was 1 octave and listen to the hits he put out. Jewel is actually a story teller and not a singer per say. But I wouldn't compare their music because both artists can make you feel their pain or happiness.

Kelly showed so much class and respect, even though her voice and ability to belt out is tremendous. They harmonized so beautifully.
I sadly, disagree totally. I know Kelly is know for her belting ability but I've listened & watched several voice coaches talk abt how she comes close to screaming at times in order to hit notes once well within her range before she damaged her voice w/excessive touring. I've read she's been rehabbing it for a while now & it does sound great here but in order to show this off, I think she's singing over Jewel. Jewel actually has a great vocal range but instead of this being shown off, she's the bigger person which is great considering how much ego there typically is in most celebs, & she decided it wasn't worth fighting it out "vocally" & instead lets Kelly shine. It's unfortunate bc imo the point of this was to honor Jewel's song & contributions and it doesn't highlight her talent at all but that's just my opinion
