My ancestors are Mizrahi Jews from Iran and they moved from Iran to Russia around 100 years ago. During the Soviet rule they were forced to assimilate, stopped practicing Judaism, names changed and “ov/ova” was added to the ending of surname.
When I was 19, I was so keen for Aliyah. Started learning Hebrew and attending to synagogue.
So, long story short when I went to Israeli embassy to register for Aliyah, they asked for paperwork to prove my Jewishness. I couldn’t provide as non one cared about small village archive which was destroyed twice by fire and once by flooding.
Anyway, I moved on and now I am in Europe, providing IT consultancy and I don’t need rabbi or Israeli government official to confirm my identity. I am who I am!

My scepticism of Igbo blood (not sincerity of their religious believes) stems from their geographic presence in a part of the world that didn't had a historic cross migration. Unlike Ethiopian Jews who have well-known heritage in a historical area down the Nile river and close to the red sea, Nigeria is far away from the Middle East and Caucasus. Who knows! They are religious though!!!
I am comfortable with real Jews. People who do not claim my identity and try to steal the religion my people faught and died for.
