Colorado murder defendant Mark Redwine, 59, stands trial in the 2012 murder of his son Dylan Redwine, 13.
The child’s parents were in the middle of a contentious custody battle, and he joined his father in La Plata, Colorado on November 18, 2012 for a court-ordered visit, according to the indictment. Their relationship was strained and young Dylan made plans to stay over at a friend’s home. It was the last anyone heard from him.
An alleged motive behind the murder is that the boy and his brother had seen disgusting photos of their father, and he was going to confront the elder Redwine about it.
Brother Cory says he & Dylan discovered pics of their father in a diaper eating feces.
A neighbor of his father claimed to have seen the defendant’s exterior porch light on at about 2 a.m. on November 19, 2012. The light was off later that morning when it was still dark.
Some of the 13-year-old’s remains were found in June 2013 about 8 miles up Middle Mountain Road from his father’s home. Hikers later found his skull 1.5 miles away, further up that road on November 1, 2015. It was determined that the boy’s skull had injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma at two locations, and had two small markings consistent with marks from a knife.
The suggestion in the indictment is that Mark Redwine, who knew the area well, accessed the first area using his ATV. The second location was separated from the first by “very difficult terrain” but more easily reached by Middle Mountain Road. This was consistent with a person moving it, not an animal, authorities said.
On August 5, 2013, a K-9 located cadaver scent throughout Redwine’s home, including his living room and washing machine, authorities said. The defendant’s clothes, which he said he wore on November 18 to 19 of 2012, also revealed a scent, authorities said. On February 13, 2014, the K-9 found cadaver scent in several locations in Redwine’s Dodge pick-up truck.
Authorities also claimed to have found Dylan’s blood in multiple locations through out his father’s living room, including on the couch, the corner of the coffee table, and on the floor under a rug.
Mark Redwine’s first trial ended in a mistrial after a member of the defense reported having symptoms of COVID-19.

Cristen Baird is an incredibly honest witness. Her face is an open book; her body language indicates her personality as a warm, compassionate young lady in acute distress. The arm movements, although only visible from her upper torso, shows her repeatedly using self-soothing comforting motions, as if smoothing her hands over her thighs. Those who think she is "twitchy" are only seeing repetitive nervous movement, indicating her high level of anxiety, grief, and self awareness of how important her testimony is.
Watching Cristen's eyes, you see how deeply she is grieved. You can tell when she looks at the PA, how committed she is to telling Dylan's story; you know those brief glimpses are at the Defendant as her facial expression of loathing and dislike are intense. Those rapid fire answers illustrate an eagerness to tell everything she can and needs to say; her inability to convey everything she desperately wishes as she must adhere to rules of court procedure must be incredibly frustrating. Her intense eye contact reveals how ardently engaged she is.
A truly compelling testimony from a guileless veracious witness. As a juror, I would be profoundly moved as well as knowing she is completely candid.

@@angelamohammed4517 Thank you, Angela. I should. I have been an avid reader since age 3. All of the great books that have taught me so many things tend to help, though. Books have been phenomenal teachers.
She was an “okay” witness, nothing to the extent you propose. To not recollect 2017, when its talking about her previous “boyfriend” Dylan? That’s quite a stretch. However, relatively speaking, in comparison to the man on before her that couldn’t even seem to speak, she did alright.
I will say that whats really opened my eyes, is the character of these close friends, that he ran around with and such. Unsupervised at 3 and 4 o’clock in the morning? At thirteen years old? That says a-lot about the home life and lack of structure at his mothers house. Perhaps it has no bearing on the case? Perhaps it does. Either way, it stands out to me clearly in testimony Ive already seen to this point....
Dylan, was very fortunate to have some great friends who have had to endure something as tragic as loosing their friend at young age. They bravely and courageously sat in court to tell the court their memories. Dylan would be very proud of you all 🌟👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼

This is so hard on these young friends and GF at the time as well as now.
Having the ability to search old text messages is really a game changer for courts and trials. I can't help but think about what if my texts were ever subpoenaed how embarrassing that could be. Be careful what you say folks. A lot of times it's not because you committed a crime but perhaps someone you knew did or was a victim.

it amazes me how courtrooms can never seem to get better, up to date technology..I know the judges are ancient, but c'mon...does everything else have to be too?
I think the streaming services up up to date tech but they're reliant on the court. For an example of how a trial can be streamed, take a look at the Joseph Daniels trial presided by Judge David D. Wolfe. Although this clip was streamed a few hours ago it's like watching footage from 20+ years ago.
That's government for you. They're so bureaucratic and inefficient that they remain decades behind in technology. It's not like they're afraid to spend money. Many courthouses look like Roman colosseums in their architecture and grandeur. Often with expensive woodwork, columns, and artwork. But God forbid they go to best buy and spend 100$ on a decent microphone.

It’s so strange that this judge has an issue with transcripts. I have watched some very high profile cases that have gone to trial in the last 3-5 years, mostly in Florida, and the use of transcripts has not been a problem at all. Of course, the judge just does his spiel about if there is a discrepancy between “what you see and what you read you must rely on what you see because that is the evidence”!

I know this is probably more of a live stream question but does anyone know if the prosecution can use the Dr. Phil appearances for the jury to see in this trial ? I know it’s a different state but I know Arizona used Jodi Arias appearance on Inside Edition and 48 Hours in their case. Redwine didn’t come off as very concerned or credible.

On another note, This judge isn't playing with this defense attorney. Right from the jump, he said to the attorney "You know how I run my courtroom" or something to the nature when the defense attorney was addressing people a certain way. I love his "Don't play with me attitude"!!! It's so refreshing to see.

If the attorneys really want the jury to hear this guy’s testimony they’d be repeating what he says back to him and get him to confirm it. He has some type of speech issue not to mention the terrible court room audio and microphones that go in and out. In interrogations, officers repeat statements back constantly. If you want your jury to hear the testimony and he has these type of speech issues, that would be a way around it.
I can't even hear the Attorneys half the time. Invest in some sound equipment!
If the people in the court, specifically the jury or court reporter,were unable to hear testimony, the judge or opposing council would have kept stopping their testimony and asking them to repeat what they said. You people who find it necessary to point out the physical flaws or speech issues of witnesses are inconsiderate a*ses. Don't you morons realize that these young people might see your comments. The ONLY thing your comments will accomplish is offending them.

THe young man (Harvey) seems to have an inability to enunciate his words… or he has some kind of speech impediment that makes his words and phrases run together… really difficult to understand him.
He seems to have a really tight jaw. His tongue also seems odd in it’s movements. Must’ve been tough for the court reporter.

@Tammy Henry Nevermind, I know the answer. Criticizing young strangers who are testifying in their friend's murder trial gives you some kind of warped validation, likely because your own life is so pathetic.
Okay, so Adam is my brother. I wasn't sure if I should say anything, but I feel like I should clear some of these things up for anyone who may be interested to know.
Number one, he was nervous. He's a young guy and has rarely been in a situation where he would need to conduct himself in any sort of "professional" manner. Speaking outside of a casual environment is pretty foreign to him. And given the circumstance, it made it more difficult.
Number two, everything that has happened with Dylan was incredibly traumatic for him. When he said they would hang out "every single day", that is 100% true. I mean, he lived literally right across the street from us. Having one of your best friends go missing for months, then find out he's dead when you're a 12-13 year old kid is not easy to deal with. To this day he has moments where he thinks back and gets emotional. This trial being prolonged in the way that it has, where it constantly comes up, hasn't given him the best opportunity to put all of this behind him. In a lot of ways, these are wounds that haven't had a chance to heal.
I don't intend to come off as a jerk or anything. All I ask is to please keep these things in mind before passing judgment or making unfounded assumptions.
And for the record; he's not missing teeth, and he doesn't have a speech impediment.

I’m not through all of Cristen’s testimony yet but so far, I haven’t heard any testimony from anyone that says that any parent *allowed* their 13 yr old to stay out til 2 or 3am. Kids stay up late sometimes! If they sneak out, then that is SNEAKING, literally by definition they’re hiding it from their parents.
I guess you could say that the parents should somehow know that they snuck out-not sure how, I don’t really think it’s appropriate to stick a camera in a 13 yr old boy’s bedroom or something like that.
Also I’m not sure what cell phones have to do with anything....it’s super normal for a 13 yr old to have a cell phone, lol.

I don’t believe this witness, nor any of his other friends who have testified, ever said anything about staying OUT until 2 or 3 in the morning. Harvey stated that they stayed UP until 2 or 3 in the morning.
