  • WOW! If we had to sum up the absolutely awesome day on the chuck with Jason Tonelli of Pacific Anglers, hooking super silver Chinook Salmon and trapping Prawns, that would be it! WOW! The weather was cold & wet but the fishing was so good that we never had a second to even think about it! Double headers, hard fighting chinook and not another soul around ... pretty hard to beat that! If you're looking for an exciting day of salt water angling there's truly not a better outfit than Pacific Anglers! These folks know what they're doing, their boats and equipment are top notch and they'll get you onto fish! PS the Tonelli Deli lunch is pretty good too! :) Can't wait to do it with them again next year!

Definitely a different fisherie but always a good change up and good time 👍

Why don't you stop the boat to play the fish? I always did. It reduces drag on the fish and much more fun to play.I never had tangles because I did.

We never had any issues with the boat not stopped but I guess it's an option if need be.

You can stop to fight fish for sure, or slow down. In this particular fishery we don't slow down as we are fishing very close to the bottom and if you slow down your cannonball will drop down and likely snag bottom. If you slow down you will usually catch a rockfish or lingcod and those species are closed in the area we were fishing. By keeping your trolling speed up you can avoid both of the situations mentioned and you are going the correct trolling speed and your gear is working correctly, so you can get double headers, and we had our share. In fisheries were we are catching larger chinook, it is a lot more common to slow down, or even pull all the gear and focus on the fight of the fish or even chase the fish in some cases. Winter chinook are usually in that 6-15 pound range it just seems best to keep trolling while you are hooked up or slightly reduce trolling speed when hooked up. Hope that helps! Jason Tonelli
