- TOTK runs at 900p dynamic and 720p dynamic on handheld. It usually stays at that resolution, but can drop to 792p.
- There are some issues with implementing temporal reconstruction (FSR) in TOTK, randomly triggering dynamic resolution when, technically, it should not.
- TOTK fixes the stuttering problems that dragged Breath of the Wild in specific areas, but has framerate problems if we use the powers in areas with too much graphic load or when there are too many npcs on screen.
- These framerate problems can cause drops of up to 20fps. Nintendo should work on this mainly.
- Longer drawing distance in shadows compared to breath of the wild. Vegetation and geometry LOD have also been slightly increased.
- The sun has changed its position in TOTK. The general illumination has been retouched and improved.
- Some areas are almost unrecognizable with respect to BOTW given the large amount of assets and new structures added.
- Improvements in some textures.
- Less grass density in some areas with respect to BOTW.
- Faster loading times in TOTK in fast travel, but faster in BOTW when starting the game.
- Improved water and splash quality.
- Overall, TOTK is some of the most technically meritorious games I've seen on Switch. However, the performance at certain times tarnishes the experience considerably.
- This review was conducted with version 1.1.0 of the game. A performance review will be done in the following patches.

It's not temporal reconstruction, because it's "FSR1".
Seguro es una versión recortada de FSR

Nintendo could easily offer a update to ToTK for the next switch console and have it look even more beautiful. It’s still amazing what they where able to pull off with outdated hardware.
I'm sure they will
sure they will and they will charge $70 again for that update.
@@supercharlie398 nah prolly 20 dollar dlc but knowing them it will be 30
Meanwhile game freak💀
@@Nada_Zero Gamefreak should really take some lessons from the Zelda Devs on how to make open world games work.
BoTW looks softer but more consistent. ToTK's reconstruction technique is pretty wild. One frame could be really sharp and aliased, the next can go smooth and even blurry. I hope a patch would address it somehow.
Fsr is a poor choice in this game in my opinion it is a special upscale so it will not add any form of anti aliasing to the image and there is not performance benefit from it considering it that it is not lowering the actual internal res of the gpu and is simply upscaling the image to look 1080p like
@@wiskerfall4519 fsr is necessary for switch if the developers want the higher image performance in their games
@@xiaoming2338 now that I think about it would a hypothetical switch 2 be able to have dlss 2 on it because I’m assuming that Nintendo would need a custom chip from ninvidia which is already in the current switch but I wonder if they could get the tensor cores small enough to fit in a mobile chipset idk it’s probably more likely the would just use fsr 2 since it is software unlike dlss witch requires the aforementioned tensor cores to work
The frame going from sharp to soft is what's bothering me about the game.
Update 1.1.1 was just released can somebody confirm if it fixes this issue?
No one has noticed that the sun in botw was oriented in north. But in totk, it is oriented in south

I feel like once they get a new console that’s equal to the power of other handheld like the steam deck and other ones, the game would loom much better. This would be the case for all of Nintendo’s other games as well.
Now that they know the market is actually there, I hope they do reach for something at least as powerful as the steamdeck.
You can checkout the emulated version on a PC. The game looks gorgeous at 1440p and higher. On par with Genshin Impact and such
Pretty sure they gonna drop switch 2 and port this game just to make me wanna upgrade
@@quanta8382 emulated rn is abit unstable getting frames is difficult
"Just make the Swtch like a Steam Deck" They're never going to make a fat Switch, and its kind of stupid to suggest they should since it would be a total regression of their design in terms of portability, which is the Switch's whole gimmick
Incredible how they were able to increase the scale of the game massively and still keep it running the same as BOTW on the now old switch hardware.
botw was designed to work on wii u
not that impressive to be honest a little improvement graphics over botw
Switch hardware was already old when it was just released. I'm not hating on the machine, it's actually surprising what it can do with such outdated hardware. However, playing a game at 30fps or less is just a hard pass for me.
It’s really impressive, considering how old this hardware is. People love to complain about resolutions and framerates like 30fps is so unplayable… as if that didnt used to be the standard just 5 years ago lmao. Me personally i can jump off from playing at 120fps on my series x or ps5 straight back to 30fps on the switch and not be bothered as long as its stable. Im so excited… 12am cant come quick enough lol
Botw wasn't a switch game to begin with, So it makes sense.
BotW was originally designed for Wii U, so it was pretty much a straight port for Switch.
TotK, on the other hand, is designed solely for Switch.
Smart choice to prioritize consistent frametimes. While frame drops are annoying, the game will adjust its framerate in chunks, from 30 to 25 to 20, and vice versa, instead of having it all over the place. Keeps the frame times steadier, which makes it more bearable.
20-25 is unacceptable anno 2023 😫. I would love to play this but man thats unplayable

I keeps feeling BoTW feels smoother and graphically better than ToTK in game.
Cause it is.
Totk definitely looks way better in terms of graphics on pc but smoothness on switch definitely goes to botw
Its completely unacceptable, but critics have to give the game a 10/10 or they'll be harassed and blacklisted by Nintendo
Seriously! Especially handheld. Maybe it’ll look better if it’s docked I haven’t tried.
@@DropoutJerome the game is way bigger, think before writing blind hater!!!!!!
From someone that's played botw over 1100 hours and tears of kingdom since launch I can say with confidence botw feels more polished, looks better/fuller on the other hand tears feels more rich with content but don't get me wrong botw has alot
Nah, quite the opposite
Botw was an empty turd and this game seems pretty dull so far
Thats imposible, 1100 hours= 45 days, the game has been launch 4 days ago.
@JuanSebastianTL you know botw came out years ago right? What just launched is called tears of the kingdom 🫢 botw launched in 2017 with the switch
@Rangok Funkazuul Missing grass, lower textures than botw, dropped resolutions when the game drops below 20fps, I also noticed they used some sort of sharpening tool, making the game feel very pixalated at times. This doesn't mean 2 games can't coexist though. I plan on seeing every aspect of totk.. and just cause I say that now doesn't mean I won't change my mind. Through a few updates they could fix the few issues with the graphics. To me it just seems like they had to compromise the graphics for more content, given the hardware of the switch I'm completely fine with the decision. I'm just happy to have a botw like game back. It's one of my favorite legend of zelda games by far.

Well yeah if you never played any other games since BotW on WiiU. There's no getting around the fact it's a switch game and isn't going to present super pretty.

3:32 20fps drop for $69.99? Lmao. That’s sad.
Porfa 😊
The thing I first noticed was the water textures repeat in an obvious and somewhat distracting pattern in Totk. Like texture squares . But I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it in botw bc I wasn't able to fly.
There are also numerous areas in totk where the stones in the depths load weird. They seem to undulate as you move close to an affected area and will do the reverse if you move away. Ive seen rocks load late in botw but this is a constant bug that only happens in some areas, often in the depths.

6:30 downgrade?
no.. someone cut the grass offscreen.. you never know..
I'd say the artists had a change of heart. You can now see more of the concrete.
Awesome job, well done!
Looking at the vegetation comparison and a few other shots it looks like the lushness of foliage has been downgraded sadly. Unless a different technique to re-implement foliage was introduced and it changed things up a bit, you can tell stuff like the mini-grass blades etc. are so few they are nearly non-existent in comparison. At least they kinda made up for it by creating altogether new plantlife and clutter.
*EDIT*
Fortunately upon looking at more footage, that extra detail is still retained across the board, just redistributed differently. Some areas may seem "less lush" while others are rather improved actually. All in all visual quality wasn't downgraded, things like that were just shuffled around most likely due to automations. I'd even say many of the previous areas have received an upgrade due to extra stuff added-in.
That's not even true wtf
@@repingers9777 Seeing more footage I may have fortunately been wrong on that one. It's most likely just a change up on where the lushness was "redistributed".
Some previous areas are affected as I described, others are rather improved actually. I'll re-edit above accordingly, sorry about that!
@@Mk_Otaid yeah there's a lot of changes and graphical improvements or tweaks especially in the lighting department none of this crappy videos show them at all it's pretty disappointing. There's a whole new lighting system like the way it works is far different from botw especially with pitch black areas there is dynamic lighting as with before it was a broken looking pitch black mess where link is entirely black unless 1 inch away from a light source. Even stuff like being in a cave in gerudo and the outside light shines brightly while looking out and cast bloom and some kinda volumetric lighting stuff by all means totk has modern graphic features just done in a way that compliments the art style
gracias por enseñarnos, they really nailed the distant islands in the sky, how they turn blue and blend in with the sky, so much like seeing a mountain in the distance, the blue color of all the scattered light in the sky between you and the distant land obscures it in a blueish hue.
I bet development of this game is what finally pushed Nintendo to make a New Gen Switch system, cus I bet they were chomping at the bit to implement new graphical effects & such. Can't wait til we can actually have dynamic lighting and such in an Open World Zelda game!! A next gen title could truly look amazing if they really give it some true TLC. as a ps5 owner, I made the decision about a month ago to finally get the switch (mainly for Zelda and a few other games).. to finally see what was all the TALK about this game haha
took me a bit to get into it honestly... the graphics and fidelity really through me off... (playing on a 4K 65incher) so things looked...... different lol reminded me of how I felt about the Wii U years ago... like it was some Bullsht lmao
BUTTTTTTTTT.... I looked into getting a McClassic upscaler as well as utilizing the visual options on my tv..... Graphics look amazing on BOTW. May not be ps5 level, but its still beautiful to me. art style and all...
The game itself didnt click to me until I was exploring. Just looking around and climbing things. Saw and island. Flew over to it from a big nearby mountain. Discovered EVENTIDE ISLAND lmaoo I had no idea what this all was..
but stumbling unto one of the hardest shrines in the game was prob the best thing to ever happen as I got a REALLY got dose and taste of what this type of game is all about. I started to understand the gameplay structure, its approach... its almost SIM like... after that experience and beating it, I fell in love with all things BOTW haha
Last game I played was Ocarina of Time. So its lovely to see so many references and throwbacks to it. Love the story, the gameplay, the puzzles, the world building and exploration.

Tears of the kingdom reminds me a lot of the quake port to the sega Saturn it was extremely ambitious and some would say impossible on the hardware but it was still able to be done except in this case it is not in the single digits frame rate wise lol. But in my personal opinion this game does look gorgeous
Some stones look flatter in the new game, but other objects in general look more detailed

I have TOTK #5 and BOTW #4 on my all time Zelda list. Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Wind Waker are the Holy Trinity of Zelda and always will be. The reason I have BOTW at #4 is because I believe that it was a more enjoyable experience first time through and it will be more memorable as the future goes on. The main theme is absolutely beautiful and the entire game feels perfectly well balanced unlike TOTK which can be overwhelming, tedious, and a pale shadow in comparison when you think about it. Colgeras theme was amazing and the depths were badass so I’ll give it that.

If you think about it, they are using just the switch software. Sinde BotW was mainly for the WiiU and then ported to the Switch.
3:47 Hyrule Warriors
Same game 2
Are you playing on 1.10?
Wow, never noticed that Tears had less grass.
Anyone feel like this could of been and update and a dlc
I feel like people are coping when they say that it is completely different. At best, it looks like a slightly updated game with new areas and features.
it's all Nintendo's botw dlc ideas rolled into one and it was originally planned as dlc so it's not surprising 😭 they should've just made it a $40-50 dlc
It was meant to be the 3rd botw dlc but grew to big
I prefer BOTW it looks better the ambient is far more well and overall runs better (even when released)
Will TOTK needs some patch and has huge performance problems (even botw run far better at launch) while ambient isn‘t mine, because its a bit scary and a lot more obstructions
People forget BOTW was built for the WiiU. The stronger hardware for the Switch should allow for better visuals. I'd suspect a few patches to make frame rate more consistent just like what we saw with BOTW on both the Switch and WiiU with their patches.
Please name of this song?
I was gonna buy it, or get another switch rather to get this, but if the resolution and frame-rate doesn’t have an improvement I guess I’ll skip.
If they're using FSR & that supposedly uses little to no GPU cost, then why not go to 1080p docked with it? Don't really get that but ok... I don't get why the max res is still 900p. That's what it was for BOTW without FSR.
What the fucking BGM for Horror games dude
I can't even 30fps on switch docked.
Why did you speed up for Totk in the Loading times?
Cemu vs Yuzu vs Switch?
