What are you favorite/goto prime lenses for the Sony a6000/a6300/a6500?
that1cameraguy 18-35mm with mc11
Similar to you: Sigma 16mm 1.4, Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sony 50mm 1.8. I'll prb swap the 50 for the 85 at some point, very happy with it though.
that1cameraguy 30mm and the 85mm for sure. i used to own the 60mm 2.8 which was sharp equivalent to a 92mm but it was a focal length that was weird to handle plus subject isolation wasnt that great. At night 2.8 was hard to handle cranking iso to 1500
that1cameraguy now just have sigma 16 and sony 50.. Hohoo.. 👍
since you are already outside the sony range-excellent choices by the way-what about the cheaper but manual samyang/rokinon 85 f1.4 and 135 f2?
Wow, the BOKEH of the 16mm f/1.4 is amazing!
Shang-Hsien Yang yep! Shoot all my CZcams videos with it :)
The budget option is the Sigma Art Trinity: 19mm, 30mm and 60mm f2.8. Had the second, it was really great for the price and the IQ wasn’t bad either.
True, i have the same one you had. The sharpness, color and contrast is so nice
Yep! A6000 an unstoppable WORK HORSE!! Always take my A6000 during my travels trucking through the western States! Great videos as always! Thanks!!
Thank you for still making videos about/for Sony A6000 despite the availability of so many new high-end Sony Mirrorless cameras in the market e.i A7iii, A9, A7rii... I have a Sony A6000 right now (i got thru installment), although I only have the kitlens, watching your videos about lenses that are good for A6000 made me happy - knowing that the capability of this camera can be extended. Right now I can't afford any of the lenses you mentioned, it will probably take me half a year to save money to just buy one prime lens. I just hope my photos that I submitted in stock sites will sell so I can buy either the Sigma 30 f1.4 or the 50 f1.8 Oss.
DXTR ACBS same for me. confused will buy FF camera or a6000 but a6000 will do good job with all these lens
I agree! I just received my a6000 in December/January, so I'm still learning. Your videos are always so informative. Thank you so much for continuing to share with us. I'm searching for a good portrait lens.
The native Sony 50 f 1.8 is my sharpest. Not too rare to find used at fair prices. Most people like an 85 mm as a portrait lens but the 50 is more versatile. It can search sometimes in auto focus and I give up and go manual. With peaking I can get razor
DXTR ACBS did stock photos sell? Bought any lens?:)
I currently have the a6000 and my goto lenses are sigma 16mm and Sony 35mm. If I was not starting out and knew more about photography and camera gear, I would have opted for the exact lenses in this video.
absolutely the best video you have made in the last month. I would agree. I love the 30mm 1.4 on my a6500. Dying to try the 85mm
The sigma 16mm f1.4 is my all-time favourite lens. Such a blast to shoot with.
You don't find the focal length too close to for portraits?
i’ve been using the a6000 for about three years. The first thing Idid was sell the kit 16-50. I just couldn’t get sharp focus. I bought Sony’s 50/1.8 and love it but many of my shots are indoors and I’d have to knock out a wall to get back far enough. I wanted something wider. The Sony 28/f2.0 was almost the same price as Sigma and far smaller/lighter. I always do handheld so size does matter. My best do it all lense is the 18-105 f 4 OSS. that’s wonderful for shots with good lighting and video outdoors. Your videos are my favorite.
16-50 used mostly at 16mm plus for video, sigma 30 f1,4 for 90% of everyday shooting and 50 f1,8 for potraits.
great... definetely same lenses and the same reasons for me too... just instead of sel 50 i've helios58mmf2.0
Great lens choices for Sony Aps-c. I do enjoy the Rokinon 12mm F2 prime.
I have had my 6000 for about a week now, and I absolutely love it! The primary lens I have it paired with is the Sony FE 50mm 1.8, and it does a fantastic job. I have been looking at the 85mm that you have in this video, but the other 2 lenses intrigue me too. Especially that 16mm.
Just missing the 16mm Sigma f1.4 from my kit which I plan on getting when there's another sale. Shot with the A6000 and A6500 for a while with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and Sony 85mm F1.8 and they're all workable. I've stopped using the Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS as I found with my style the 30mm apsc works for 90% of my work.
Just the same three and I stayed with the 18105 as universal zoomlens. Good combo!
im glad i found this! ive been lookin for prime lens
Mannnn good video as usual, for me will be sigma 16mm f1.4, I already had sigma 30mm f1.4 and 18-108mm G but i will go for 16mm f1.4 i think with those lenses I will be good. Thanks for video
Totally love all these lens.... Waiting to purchase my first prime lens... Sigma 16 1.4
Its a fantastic lens and great for low light but theres focus noise on video.
My Sigma 16mm 1.4 arrives today! I've got the a6500 and the 30mm (which I love) & currently adapting a Canon 85mm 1.8
Hey no doubt, these r the 3 lens use for videos.. Mind blowing quality and out put, I don't think there is anything better then these lens.. Your r 100% right..
I always liked the Sony 50mm 1.8 for portraits. It has this look to it that I really like. Thanks I found a few of your videos quite helpful

Hey, another great video! An idea for next time: could you talk about flash and strobist setup on Sony next time? BR
Those 3 lenses are the best, I'd add the 55mm f1.8 zeiss and all focal lengths will be covered. Great video as always.
Agree with the 16mm sigma - it’s simply an awesome lens. I have the a6000, and would say the 35mm Sony trumps the 30mm sigma because of the stabilisation. My third lens would have to be a zoom for versatility, for me, the f4 70-200mm is an absolute beast on the a6000, great for portraits, outdoor sports, optical steady shot so handheld video is fine enough, and it’s impressively sharp wide open - my favourite lens! If I had to pick a third prime, I’d probably say the 85mm but no oss means it’s not great for video!
Planning on picking up the sigma 16mm soon for my a6000 and a6500. Also contemplating on selling my 24-70 F4 Zeiss and picking up the Sony 18-135 as a travel zoom
Man I’m really loving photography and videography
Right on! Exactly what I would recommend based on your criteria (low light & IQ) Moreover, 3 light choices and great $/quality 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I’d be interested in hearing your low and mid budget recommendations. Moving from Nikon to Sony e mount aps c and trying to choose where to start. I’d also be interested in your thoughts on 3 lens setup that would include a zoom option. I mainly shoot family and some travel/landscape and have a low to mid budget. Thanks for the great work so far!
Currently have the 35mm 1.8 and I sometimes borrow the 85mm FE from a friend. I plan to buy the Sigma 16mm soon.
I think this sealed the deal for me getting the sigma 16mm f1.4. thanks!! I just got my a6000 after having the canon t2i for a couple years now. I have 2 sigma lenses for canon and im about to get the sigma mc 11 adapter so i can usee em for my sony a6000
Miss your videos and I did learn a lot from you back in the day. I have recently started looking at my a6000 and a6500 cameras again after abandoning them for full frame ( a7iii and a7c). I shall try out this lens trio as it seems like a nice lightweight kit and I already own them! Hope you are doing well.
Hey man!! great video! I need your advice. I want to buy a Sony a6500 and i'm not so sure if get it whit the Sigma 30 mm 1.4 or the Sony 18-135mm 3.5-56.
I monstly shoot travels, and some casual family portraits. Please help!
Thank you any way, your channel is great!
Sigma 16mm will make a great addition to my list!!! Already have 35mm and 50mm f 1.8 Sony lens. Not sure abt 85mm. Will think abt it.
Damn that Sigma 16mm and Sony 85mm are both definitely on my wishlist now! I just got an a6000 a couple of months ago with the 55-210 kit lens. Wound up getting the Sony 30mm macro (which I love) and the 16-50 kit lens real cheap. I like the idea of testing out the 2 zoom kit lenses to figure out where I like to shoot. That being said, I did back the Kalman 28mm along with the 50mm. The price for both was too great to pass up.
That 85 I do want. I've been getting more full frame lenses knowing I will soon be wanting to get an A7.
Sigma are apparently releasing another Contemporary lens for Sony APSC later this year... It's likely to be a 60mm 1.4, which should be absolutely killer!
Tom Eden RIP my wallet
Released 2 other ones too I believe
56mm 1.4
Thank you for the video.
Do you have a video for lenses that are compatible with full frame. I currently have an A6000 but will eventually like to upgrade to full frame.
Thanks again for your time
I’m using almost all time Sigma 16 1.4 for my sony6000 for all of kind: Record traverling videos, lanscape, building, portrait photo. :D This lens is awesome
Great Video! I have the 16mm1.4, the zeiss 24mm1.8 and the sony 90mm2.8.
Would like to have a 30mm or a 50mm ... I cant deside...
I went for the Rokinon 12mm 2.0, Sigma 19mm 2.8, Sony 35mm 1.8 and the Sony 50mm 1.8 for my a6000. Cheap, fairly good quality optics and covers most situations.
Hi. I am looking at wide angle lenses for my Sony a6000. I am going on a trip soon and want to have a lens that can take waterfalls and northern lights. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this lens or suggestion on other wide angle lens for a beginner like myself. How do you think the kit lens 16-50 mm, F3.5-5.6 hold?
I’ve got the sigma 16 1.4 and the Sony 35 1.8. I honestly can’t choose which I like best. They’re both amazing for their own strengths.
How is the Sony? Like it? Better for all around stuff?
I have a Sony a6000 with a Rokinon 12mm 2.0. I was considering the sigma 16mm? I was wanting a landscape lens ideas... or is the sigma a nice upgrade .. thanks
which lens would you recommend to photograph flowers and flower arrangements. I'm trying to take some really great pictures for my moms florist business.
I don't have the 16 mm but I just love and use the sigma 30 and the Sony 85.
Perhaps I should consider getting the 16 mm
Good recomended lens, in this video vlog you shot use a gimbal?
i have 35mm f1.8 for video or travelling and want to buy fe 85mm f1.8 for potrait photography.
Great content! 😊👍🏼 I'd love a Sigma 16mm f1.4 but now I ordered Sony 35 mm f1.8 for the OSS. Hope it won't fail me. 😭
I just got the FE 85 F1.8 after trying an 85mm f1.4 manual lens and finding I did not use it because of the time it takes me to get it focused and because I shoot mostly events where there is lots of movement; school and extracurricular activities and family/friends birthdays.
When you use the Sigma 16mm F1.4 for vlogging, how do you deal with the focusing noise? Especially with a6000 which doesn't have a separate mike-in port, what is your work-around?
Sir, what is your best suggestion for zoom lenses work well for a6000 ? Im looking for an advice
I got sigma 16 and sony 50 and planning to buy sigma 30 but if I will have budget i would get zeiss 24 and sony 35 :) I just like those focal lenghts more.
I've 30mm. Absolutely love it... Great choise it'd be...
Hey man, love your videos, just wanted to add something. I hear a lot of youtubers refer to “upgrading” to a full frame. A full frame is not necessarily an upgrade. Yes specs wise it’s an upgrade but a lot of people actually prefer apsc cameras. I know a lot of professionals who use m43 cameras even. Just saying but keep up the awesome videos!
I love this video, I have the 16 and 30. What I love also is the preset you are using, it looks like a fuji chrome style. What are you actually using, especially when you are demonstrating the 16mm lens?
Hi, I have a question that maybe nobody talked about yet. When using the Sony FE 85mm in a crop sensor like the Sony a6000, you loose pixels when printing out the photos, or not? I wonder if I'm right, since this lens will be a 127mm equivalent in a crop sensor, which means that the image is already being cropped, so loosing some pixels as a result. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks and greetings from Argentina!!
Since I already have the Rok 12mm, should I jump to the Sigma 30mm or is there enough difference between the 12mm and 16mm to warrant adding the 16 next?
So will the sigma 30mm provide the same bokeh as the 16mm sigma?
Thank you - very helpful!
Great video. How did you colourgrade/which colour profile?
Nice summary... 16 and 30 are on my list when switching to Sony in next month... Plus maybe 18-105 or 135...
I'm on a preety low budget and hoping to get the Canon 50mm F/1.8.Is that gonna be good idea?
Well i've seen Sony's SEL50F18 but that lens does only have one ring for zooming. But how can I use that manually too?Or there is 2 rings one for aperture or focus one for zoom? Please help me understanding...I really want to buy a cheaper prime for my A6K
Sigma 16mm f1.4 love it❤️❤️❤️
I sold my Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 as it's not a focal length I use often but did pick up the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 as I dont mind manual focus. Big difference in price, I paid £180 new for my Samyang.
My prime collection for apsc are
7 artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye
Samyang 12mm f/2
Sigma 30mm f/1.4
Sony e 50mm f/1.8
Samyang 85mm f/1.4
Plus I have several vintage lenses I can throw on there which give me a completely different look and feel such as my Minolta Rokkor PF 58mm f/1.4 and Helios 58mm f/2.
Your video make me decided to buy a Sigma 30 and 85 1.8 for my A6000
Amazing vid!
Brother how about the 55mm 1.8 Zeiss lenss For a6000?
Lenses, lenses, it's never enough. :) I want to learn more about the features of the camera and techniques on how to use them. The other day I played around with the DRO and HDR features. I accidentally left it on DRO Lv5 and shot some portraits the next day at a car show. To my surprise, the photos turned out so good some friends asked if I bought a new camera.
I don't remember if you did a video on these features. If you haven't, maybe make one so some of us can learn a thing or two?
Sir may i ask, i have sony a6000 plus kit lens, among of the three prime lenses you shared, which one would you recommend to buy first? I am more on filmaking.. ^_^
With regards to the image at 1:45, is there any way to get rid of that harsh purple light in the background? I've gotten some images with that same problem and find it to be really ugly but I have no idea how to fix it
Just got my 85mm 1.8... and wow.. it is indeed challenging..any tips and tricks on how to do landscape and portrait etc on the 85?... going from my sigma 16mm 1.4... it's a huge change.. but will wanna master it. Also my 3rd choice would be the upcoming sigma 56mm 1.4. Thanks for the review bro
Hi like your thinking.
I'm new to Sony and APS-C bought the A6500 3 months ago to travel light. Still have and use Nikon for full frame quality with 10+ lenses but impressed with what I can do with Sony kit. I too like primes and by happy coincidence also bought that trio. In addition I'm using the manual Samyang 12mm f2 for wider landscapes.
I have even started to think the 'unthinkable' and I'm evaluating if selling my N kit for FF Sony makes sense. It's the direction of travel, but a full switch to pro grade Sony optics across the focal range will cost thousands ££££ (I'm a Brit) in part exchange. Benefits currently modest for hi-end sports/wildlife use but I'm particularly impressed with eye focus on Sony for portraits. Will be interesting to see what Nikon eventually do in mirrorless to counter Sony.
should i go with 30mm f1.4 for vlogging ( is it too close to my face or good for a vloG) with a6500
love frm INDIA
thanks
What do you think about SEL35F18 compared to Sigma 30mm f1.4 AS a prime lens? Price difference is only 30 bucks here... Using Mainly for photography on a6000. I'm also thinking about getting sigma 16mm f1.4 in the future.
In 2020, I choose Sigma 16mm for upgrading my Kit Lens. Love the quality 😁
Can you recommended any lenses with a wide angle? I need it for shooting interiors for Airbnb
I use mine primarily for video on my a6000 and I got the FE28mm F2 , the E 50mm f1.8 , and the FE 85mm f1.8. I feel like the fe 28 is wide enough for what i need it and then the 50mm is my mid range and for telephoto i use the 85.
Would you ever switch the 85mm 1.8 for the Samyang 85 1.4? Asking for your opinion on it as well, if you can get around to it.
@that1cameraguy What's your take on handheld photography using A6000 + SEL8518 ? I'm having a really tough time with manual focus due ot the lack of OSS. But I don't see anyone complaining about this at all. Agreed a body with OSS will make up for it, but since I have the A6000, wanted to know what you felt with your experiments. Thanks!
I'm looking at the sony 35mm oss because I'm a bit new at photography so oss might be quite useful for me. The Sigma 30mm looks awesome though. It's got me conflicted because it's cheaper and seems better but there's no stabilization in the sony a6000 I picked up. I'm guessing either will get me nice shots with a narrow depth of field compared to the kit lens tho
@that1cameraguy soo.... you preferred sigma 16mm over the 10-18 for vlogging (I'm thinking of either for my collection for my a6400) and as you mentioned, with no oss, i'm wondering how you overcame it or the reasons either than 10-18 being f4.
Very nice lenses for range of focal length !! Did you try Rokinon 85mm f1.8 as an alternative to Sony 85mm f1.8? Rokinon 85mm f1.8 is a full manual lens specifically designed for Aps-c mirrorless. Can you pls review this lens as compared to Sony 85mm f1.8? Thank you
My combo is literally the same ! :'D
About the Sigma 16mm f1.4, do you need an ND filter to shoot at daylight at 1.4?
Firstly, Great Video! 2nd, here's a more accurate APS-C conversion for FF Equivalent, Sigma 16mm/F1.4(24mm/F2.1), Sigma 30mm/F1.4(45mm/F2.1), and Sony 85mm/F1.8(127.5mm/F2.7). Focal length and aperture are impacted by the crop sensor.
with my a6300 I use the Sony fe 28 f2 - zeiss fe 55 f1.0 and the basis 85 . this is because i own a A7iii the Sigma 16 sounds sweet as i don't own any APS-C lenses
What about the stabilisation with 16mm f1.4 or 30mm f1.4 + a6000? I know they dont have oss and the a6000 doesnt have ibis so is handheld video useless? For images you just shoot at a higher shutter speed and problem solved.
Is the sigma 16mm a all around lens? I’m not a professional photographer, I just like taking pictures. And I need a new lens coz my kit lens on a6000 broke 😪
16mm sigma changed everything for me.
My three favorite lenses for a crop sensor (to shoot models) are the 30mm f/1.4 Sigma, 50mm f/1.8 Sony OSS and the FE 85mm Sony f/1.8... I don;t go too wide shooting models but when I need wide I like WIDE! the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0
Rok 12mm f2. Don't be afraid of manual-only! Also does well with macro. 👍
Chris Caswell I have the rok 12mm too and love it! Also the rok 50mm f1.2 I use allot.
carbsrm It's decent at macro too.
It's fantastic for astrophotography.
As a compulsory Nikon user, I love my 35mm f1.8. If and when I get to switch camera systems, I think I'll buy the 35mm f1.8 just because it's very "general purpose" of a lens. Lol. I might consider the Sigma 30mm f1.4, though. That image quality is a legend.
What about the rokinon 85mm? that's about $300 for the cinema version. Thoughts?
I am still using an 'old' NEX-5T camera, should I buy that lens or I need to upgrade the camera first?
do you have reviews on the sigma 30 1.4 alone?
It's nice to see that I have same idea :D
Awesome video! Keep em coming for a6000 :)
35mmF1.8 sony is my favorite. Thx
would you recommend the16mm for Milky Way photography?
Hi, is the lens focus hold button can use one a6000?
Hi, can these be used on the Sony FS5? Thanks
what would you recommend for a6000 zone lens?
