for those of us who were lucky enough to see the greatest tv show ever made with the greatest tv theme as well, i can only say thank you to mike and lalo.
It's interesting, TV theme songs were created specifically as a prompt for people in their homes to alert them that a particular show was beginning . The funny thing is that for the limited amount of time the composer's had to perform the theme song.....many created music so great.......that the music takes on a life of its own and is popular for many years after the show has gone off the air. This beautiful theme is a great example of this.
It's really great jazz and I enjoy it much more than Shifrin's other composition for Mission Impossible. My favourite is still the Perry Mason theme by Fred Steiner but Mannix is a close second.
I think this theme is right up there with The Rockford Files, Sanford and Son, Perry Mason, Hawaii Five O and Mission Impossible when it comes to the best and most iconic tv themes.
