    That Biltwell has all of the "modern" features of my Simpson Model 30 from 1980.

    • @DrTranofEvil
      @DrTranofEvil Před 5 lety +1

      orangelion03 the only problem is my Simpson Street Bandit from 2017 still has the peg and I almost lost my shield when the plastic screws on either side worked their way loose. Thing thankfully waited to fall apart until I sat my helmet on my kitchen table.
      Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Simpson, but I’d love to see them modernize a bit of the daily workings.

    • @orangelion03
      @orangelion03 Před 5 lety +1

      After that model 30, I had a model 60 for a few years. Great helmets for their time. Some years later I raced karts and cars, and wore Simpson car-racing specific lids. When I returned to riding after a long hiatus, I briefly looked at what Simpson had to offer and was not impressed when compared to even the lower cost offerings from Asia. But they still look bitchin' when paired with certain types of v-twin bikes.

    • @hvymtal8566
      @hvymtal8566 Před 5 lety +3

      And as a bonus simpson insists on SNELL or ECE for every lid they make that's actually good (half helmet not because duh, and the M50 and M30 for having jawbreaker chin bars). The Ghost Bandit is one of their newest offerings and while it's not quiiiite there yet (good exhaust scheme and chin vents but no brow or top intakes), it is miles better, is made in the USA, and invests its dollars into safety over expensive materials. Plus it has an awesome American flag graphic it actually earns, and you can _almost_ call the shape sporty and technical.

    Honestly, I don't know if I come here for your bang-on facts, or your brilliant Canadian humour!
    While on the topic of helmets, have you considered doing a similar video - but with less known brands? There are a great deal of smaller helmet manufacturers that never get any media attention, and to be honest I am kinda bored with the typical "Arai, Shoei, Bell, Icon, etc" helmets that always get featured no matter where you look. It's as if online motorcycle society don't want to acknowledge the existence of any other brands than the top 5 or 10 names everyone knows.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @auronini
      @auronini Před 5 lety

      note that they may not work for you depending on helmet/motorcycle setup. I used them and they caused extremely loud popping noises above 30mph. Had to pull over, take them out, then return them.

    • @DrTranofEvil
      @DrTranofEvil Před 5 lety +1

      I use the same setup under an Arai Signet Q. You want to have a little ear-space in your helmet, and you need to keep them as still as possible to avoid the popping noises mentioned.
      I rode with the from Oregon to North Dakota and they saved my sanity. Making calls is fine if you’re not in a helmet, but yeah, the mic sits too low for that to work on a bike.
      The other thing is if you get a cell-phone charger with a dual-USB setup, you can charge your phone AND run the noise cancellation 16 hours+.
      My Honda CB1100 is a VERY quiet bike, but after riding with noise cancellation all day and turning it off, my bike sounded like a freight train!

      True t d, I was thinking I had found the holy grail finally when I put them on.....until I hit 3rd gear and the popping started. Super frustrating inside my Arai Defiant. For people considering their first Arai, I have to say I'm really happy about my new Arai QV. There are a couple of "ehh" things about it, like the tabs that hold most of the lining in place (not the easiest to get right) and the opening tab for the visor which takes getting used to. But it is super comfortable once fit properly and really quiet. As far as safety tests are concerned, it should be right in the best buys out there. Expensive, yes. But if you can afford it, you'll likely be very happy of your purchase. Also the QV is one of the only helmets that will fit properly on a long oval head, so there's that.

    • @waltermh111
      @waltermh111 Před 5 lety +12

      He said good things about Arai, and in fact, said that it was a cheap but quality Arai. Its only expensive if you want to pay that much for a helmet (I dont lol)
      The fashionable ones are just because some people are obsessed with looking good. The tech one only to give props to the noise cancelation, but he might as well have just put that on an aside as a shout out.
      The HJC he also liked. He just had a few issues, but said that overall, it is a worthy helmet to get for the price range. But he is always a critical one, so dont take it too harshly. Its a good thing in a way because it means he is being fair, even if it can seem confusing when he doesnt make one seem so obviously awesome and unregrettable to buy.

    I went to the airflite from the airframe pro. Love it. The airframe is noisy as hell. The airflite has little noise, provides more room for my head and makes me feel more comfortable. The sunshade with a tinted visor is great for me since my eyes are especially sensitive to light.
    If i had to give the airflite a critique id say that its in dire need of a brow vent. I find the vents up top lacking. I would also like there to a visor setting that leaves a little gap. I find at lights that the visor fogs up feirce; so every light its open season.

      @Panthera9 Před 5 lety

      Don't suppose there's a way of determining head shape other than just trying on a bunch? I don't have the best access to shops, and will probably get most, if not all, of my gear online.
      I've read how to get head size (tape measure above the ears, across the forehead and the bump at the back of the skull), but the shape still eludes me.

    • @fochdischitt3561
      @fochdischitt3561 Před 5 lety

      Not that I know of. You got to spend some time with helmets on your head. if you get a red splotch on your forehead it's too round. Shaking your head "no" will cause a poor fitting helmet to not keep up with your head. It shouldn't pull off with the chinstrap tightened either.
      Closest big selection of helmets to me is about 30-40min away, just make a day of it and don't waste the sales persons time if you're buying online. Maybe make a smaller purchase.

    The Arai brow vents eliminate holes near the edge of the shell. Holes drilled near the edge of the shell can make it easier for the shell to crack in an impact. Yes it's more expensive to make this way, but it improves protection...Arai's purpose for being.
