- Progress is fast and wild.. We're experimenting with different environment types, the Targeting system kinda sorta works and we can railgun ships from 9k out, and cargo is getting further along.

Looks amazing! One suggestion though: Especially for the sun, but for a lot of celestial bodies you've shown, you could try to make them scroll by slower to give a sense of size.
You and your friend should be very proud of yourself. Making a game is more than just making a game these days and hoping people will enjoy it. Taking that first step requires courage. The rest requires dedication and constructive criticism. The sun is mesmerising as space should be.
6:16 What about a little harpoon gun that fires and drags the cargo in?
You can add a transparent black to the back of the ui, when something light is behind it, it will lift the UI, when something dark is behind it, it will only be the UI

I hope you take a page out of Starsector and the old Freelander game and allows us to play either/or as merchants, miners, bounty hunters, etc.

Maybe an inverted color filter for the map ui.
Two quick points: unless your game is the same solar system as the Earth, then it's not "The Sun". It's just a star and should have a different name. Secondly, if you were that close, I'd think gravity would be sucking you right towards it and that'd be a nifty in-game effect. Great progress, even with prebuilt assets. Loving the series.
That railgun shot, the delay and PID system... Just awesome
I think instead of a megnet or robot arm three should be a glappling hook for cargo retrevel
I think the magic solution is fine for now. But your grapling hook could actually be a kind of mini game situation.. or maybe its the standard and players can upgrade to magnet magic later
while morbid, i think it would be cool to see a bunch of guys falling out into space as the ship breaks apart and blows up
The sun and the black hole environments feel a bit like just backdrops. I wonder if its possible to let the player "feel" them.. maybe if they r closer and some of the effects actually "arrive" in the foreground play area? ❤

Reminds me of the game ΔV: Rings of Saturn. I like the isometric view with spaceships. Rings of Saturn doesn't have a great focus on combat so I'm all for more variety and competition.

I think I can see a pole on the Sun's sphere aroun 1:30, right below the spaceship, maybe an uv defect. If it's that it can probably be fixed by rotating the sphere!
Looks awesome! Maybe a nitpicky thing, but when you cancel a rotation of a ship, the thrusters on the other side have to fire. Maybe that's something you want to look into in terms of physics as well
Yeah we actually used to have it. But then we rebuilt the movement system and haven't gotten around to adding it back

Will there be Point defense cannons that shoot down other players missile launches and can engage the other ship too? It can also have a cooldown so you have to use it wisely or you are caught on a reload. (Yes… im an expanse fan).

It would be really cool if the screen rotated as the ship rolled with orientation to make traveling three-dimensional. I'm not sure if you are or aren't adding this feature or if it's already implemented
Looks good! Hope you solve that UI problem!
What do you think of rotating the camera and map so the ship always appears to point up? I think that would be a lot more intuitive than having screen-space thrust on a ship that's rotated.

Haven't seen the other devlogs if it was alraedy explained, but couldn't help notice the name of the ship. Was that a purposeful shout-out to the Alien universe?
I think the ships should be slowed down a touch, with acceleration reduced to give it a more epic feel
is this inspired by nebulous fleet command, if it is you should definitely add some similar missile mechanics
Awesome. About movement control, do I understand it right that the movement is set to a one plane level (x and y) and not a three dimensional space (x, y and z)?
6:25 shouldn't just be an arm but a net / meshing so it doesn't have to be precise &/or can scoop multiples depending
so is this going to turn into starsector-with-asteroids

Are you planning ship customisation in the future and an economy?
Yes on ship customization. Probably nothing to deep with the economy, but item selling etc like you could in an ARPG.
