    5:40 Reaction start.
    _Wasshoi!_ 🦊🤘🏮
    Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023/2024 and getting the crowd going bonkers with this just like they did yesterday at Greenfield Festival and many more live shows in this Europe Tour, tomorrow they will be at Download Festival.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic but it's heavily blocked, cool we got this new proshot version without copyright blocked. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style, no wonder is one of her favourite songs to play live.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.
    Next suggestion:
    - MAYA live at PIA Arena MM official MV.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸

    Great reaction, thanks!
Yes this was legit live. As a general rule for the videos on their official channel, if the word "live" is in the tittle, it's an actual live performance.
Yes, song's name is "Metali" (metari) which is the combination of "metaru" (metal) and "matsuri" (traditional Japanese summer festival). So it's a "matsuri" influenced song and it's all about hyping the crowd and inviting them to dance and sing along.
Musically, it's very groovy and funky. I love Su's clean yet aggressive vocals here. Really cool collaboration with Tom Morello who commented this: "I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I've been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of 'Metali!!' I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!".
And very happy for Momoko on her first song as an official member (this is from 2023 H2) and also for her feature on that kabuki (traditional Japanese theater) style interlude.
    🤘‍🦊

The groviness is probably meant to partly be a reference to Rage Against The Machine.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。The title is a synthesized word from two words : "Metal" and "Matsuri (= festival)" → Metali.
The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese festival to stoke people's exhilaration and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi (神輿) on their shoulders that is a kind of a float in Western style festivals.
The audience did get low at every venue in the world, because no one can resist following our Queen's direction. 😄 (Then they jump up from crouching posture like spring ejectors after Momoko's "Are you ready ?".)
Momometal's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style and her growl gave an amazing accent in the exciting repetitiveness.
When it comes to BABYMETAL, everybody prefers live rendition to studio MV. If this video included cool instrumental intros by Western (American) Kami Band, which are played at every venue, it would be prefect.
If you want to know the deep meaning of the lyrics please check Professor Hartley's channel (Andrew Hartley).

Awesome and great reaction! This is definitely live, albeit very well mixed.
*Pro-tip #1:* On Babymetal’s official channel, anything labeled “Official Live” is live audio. Anything with only “Official” is studio track (be it MV or live video).
*Pro-tip #2:* Use “For The Fox God” channel for live video, live audio, HD, and subtitles for Babymetal’s live! 👍👌
Also, on your conment regarding choreography, and past “disdain” for “boy bands”. Here are a couple of major differences to help you appreciate and respect Babymetal more:
1). Most of us fans also dislike copy and paste generic “industry plants” with basic efforts and no innovation for the dollar bills.
2). While Babymetal is definitely a “manufactured” group, they spearheaded an unproven concept (vs an established money maker).
3). As such, received minimal funding from execs, played food courts and side stages (with no booking fees early on) to ernestly earn their fan base, much like a “garage” band would.
4). Babymetal’s entire team is not only talented in composition, style, arrangement, and production, their producer is also an avid metal head who still tours with Babymetal to this day, despite their already established success today.
6). This is a passion project by all members and not a “suit in the office” situation. Dude even helped to mop the stage when it rained a few years back. Respect.
Therefore, Babymetal on the surface seems to fit that image of the “manufactured industry plant”(hence some of the hate), but when you look deeper, you come to appreciate their genuine authenticity. Most people who dismiss Babymetal don’t get past that and treat them as such (not saying you’re one of them, of course).
    Hope that helps! 🤘🦊

"Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi!" Good reaction.🤘🦊 If BABYMETAL include "Live" in the title of an official video you won't have to wonder in future - they have used the live audio from that performance. If it just says official video without that word in the title, even though it may have been filmed at a live performance the audio will be from the studio recording.
Googling a translation for the song title won't have worked too well, as you found, since 'Metali' or 'Metari' is a made up word fusing Metal and Matsuri (festival).
It is another of their fun songs with all the shouts (like wasshoi, dokoisho, sore etc) that would be called out at Japanese summer festivals encouraging people carrying heavy floats and so on.
There is something in the lyrics and in Momometal's Kabuki Theatre part about we are all fools - the fools who dance and the fools who watch - and as we're all here and we're all fools we may as well all dance.
Talking of dance, BABYMETAL's choreography is very different to the choreographed dancing you will be familiar with other groups, boy bands, pop artists etc doing. I'm with you on that, it just seems pointless gyrating about, serving no real purpose other than to fill the stage or to give you half dressed girls (or boys) grabbing their crotches to look at and to take your mind of bland music.
With those artists and that dancing where they all use the same dance moves from the grab bag of pop dance moves, at best the girls are pretty at worst the dancing is really annoying.
BABYMETAL's choreo is bespoke for each song and actually serves at least two real purposes. It relates to or helps with interpreting the meaning of the song or a lyric (notice in this one they were making all the same moves that people would be making at the summer festivals - when Momometal was doing her Kabuki Su and Moa were miming playing a sort of traditional drum held on their shoulder as part of their choreo) which is helpful for those of us who speak no Japanese. Perhaps even more importantly it is designed to involve and include the audience. They give the crowd their lead - when they jump, pump their fists or whatever else so does the crowd. When Moametal and Momometal chant or sing that is when the crowd also chant or sing along. It is one of the reasons the crowd participation is so good (it seems pretty much 100% participation at their Japanese shows).
Tom Morello has not appeared live with them (yet). This performance was in Japan last year, I suspect the cost of flying him out to play half a song wouldn't have made so much sense.
Yes there is an official video, the footage of Tom on the big screen behind them was from that.

I've been in "the nose bleeds" at a stadium at sound sucked for a band and left, so I know what it is to see a band you can't enjoy live.
Babymetal has pretty much always delivered, at worst the sound in a venue wasn't amazing, but Babymetal itself deliver almost always.
Fans watch a LOT of fancams, etc. even pretty often terrible quality audio of a phone we can hear how well performed it is.
BTW Tom today took a photo with Babymetal because they are both performing at Download UK. 🙂 So yes, still touring, under his own name.

Never really listened to Babymetal before they collaborated with EC, though had known the name for years, and have now been playing them nonstop for the past week pretty much. Will even be seeing them live in November (They announced a US tour this past week). As has been said, live tends to show them at their best (coming from someone who would skip "live" songs while casually listening for any other band) As for a next reaction, I would suggest Headbanger live @ Legend 1997 (Which is named after Sumetal, not the year it takes place) or Road of Resistance - Live in Japan. Both of those show just how much crowd interaction they have. For a non live song Monochrome Piano Version - The First Take.
