What the heck is an Iver Tool??

  • I've got a lot of question about the pile of brackets in my toolbox, and although I've used it quite a few times, I haven't yet used it on a job that was filmed for CZcams. Well today that finally changed and I'm able to show how it works on an actual truck. The Iver Tool allows for much better weight distribution across your own wrecker, while also making it easier to hookup to low trucks, and also gives you a very string recovery point when needed.

It is indeed strange that this is not standardized. I watched the same system in use here in Europe, and also here there are at least 6 different systems in use, of course all different from what Casey shows here. But the idea is similar.

It's fun to see the various tools in operation, but when it's explained in a manner that is so easy to understand, it gives a whole new level of respect to not only you, but ALL of the heavy haul rescue rigs out there. I agree with you fully that if there's a tool to make a job easier or safer, that's a tool to have. Might only need it once, but that one time can be life changing.

When I was towing in Europe we used a "VDZ set" its quite similar to Ivel tool.
It had ist own adapters for tow bar, lots of EU truck have a screw in tow hooks and air ride front axle + low front bumper...
It was nice to use just screw appropriately "bolt" then turn a locking nut, screw on a hook and just hook to tow bar with proprietary adapter.

And it wasn't less expensive than Ivel Tool.

Good explanation for people who don't know or understand; what or why you need that kit for your recovery work let alone understand how to use it. Good equipment isn't cheap especially when there is only limited sources to supply it, but safety, speed and reliability. Many of us understand that, life support isn't a place to skimp on.

Do you know how many people are talking to Zack Lift about the rig you have and what to purchase one for there truck? I know of one CZcamsr, Gentry and Sons, that's talked about it.

Would be interisted to see the differance in steer axle weight when lifting using the tow points vs the axle. I wonder how much of a differance it makes. Could definitely helpt in snow and ice

"and also gives you a very string recovery point when needed." Pretty sure that's supposed to be a "strong" recovery point. Proving yet again spell checker isn't anyone's friend. Great video as always.

Casey, this is just my opinion, so give it whatever consideration you wish, but I just watched the short of you towing the loaded truck and trailer with the Iver Tool. I may have commented on this before, but I think the shorts would be better if you narrated over them, rather than playing music. Though I am glad to see that you are making an effort to capitalize on that venue as CZcams suggested.

The only part I don't get are the safety chains. Seems like those have to be hooked to the trucks axle or something. Have you forget to hook up a pin then the whole unit comes off the bumper with your safety chains intact. So you have a 80,000 lb missile. Aside from that crazy logic pretty cool idea very informative video Thanks for the knowledge 🙂

The good thing I see about this is that you can add tools as you need them instead of making a much larger investment all at once, the "bad thing" is the amount of money that you are going to have in there when you finish equipping the truck, although being really useful things that make your life easier, it is surely worth it.

What about having that tool used with front air ride suspension? I would be concerned about having the airbag over extended with the front axle hanging off that without chaining it up to prevent that. The rear would be easy to secure the drive axle assembly up because it is more accessible but the front isn't like that. With spring suspension, it is easier to use the tool to tow the truck off the tow pin locations.

You chain the axle up just like you do on the rear. The front is very accessible by simply opening the hood, which you have to do to supply air anyways
