      First soundcard I bought was a "TerraTec SoundSystem Aureon 7.1 Space" back in 2005 for my AMD Athlon 64 4000X build.
      Second card I bought was "Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS" for my i7-3770K build back in 2013. I used it until I moved from Win 7 to Win 10, which I did rather late, only a couple of years go and the X-Fi card didn't work that well under Win 10.

      Yeh, I reckon so. When we tested, the difference was night and day between mobo onboard and sound card. Nice speaker too!

    • @Vonklieve
      @Vonklieve Před rokem

      I bought some Edifier speakers budget DBS ones for £139.99. I paired my AE5 plus with these speakers and was disappointed, I tried the optical out and the quality dropped like a stone.
      I have not used optical more. But I discovered, that the optical sound processing was done via the speakers rather than the AE5 Plus DAC and the sound options dropped to 24 bit and 48 Khzrt...Also the vocals were muffled.
      Blue tooth also failed to impress, the volume was far lower than wiring my laptop to speakers. With the Edifier DBS speakers.
      So, either this is user error by me, or the speakers did not fulfil my needs. They have good technology, but do not be caught out like me through ignorance or the limitations of paired speakers.
      However, my Creative T40 speakers, though 10 years old sound amazing with the old fashioned 3.5 jack. Connected to my AE5 plus soundcard.
      I also own Cloud 2 headphones and they sound great with the AE5 plus. I bypassed the USB dongle and connected to the soundcard 3.5 headphone jack.

  • @guily6669

    It's sad is that they killed the 7.1... I have a AV receiver on the way with 7.1 analog inputs and can only test it on my old Auzentech X-Fi forte 7.1, however drivers are dead, can't update windows and the soundcard is dying, mic input is completely dead, and the 5.1 output have the rear right channel making a bit of distortion, I already cleaned it all the way with WD40 contact cleaner, removed the opamp, cleaned it, but sadly nothing worked...
    Thought the mic input could be from the external cables, but sadly I also tested connection and they are making the connection good so it's some internal hardware problem sadly...
    So I'm interested to upgrade for a Creative AE 5, but it's sad that 5.1 PC sound are slowly dying when both Logitech and Creative stop making good 5.1 speakers and they already killed the 7.1 outputs, it's incredible how most brands nowadays are mostly interested in just selling CRAP soundbars and portable speakers jeez...
    I just upgraded my home theatre, now I can do 7.1 and there's no creative 7.1 latest sound card anymore and I don't care for other brand's soundcards since with Creative at least I know CPU useage is much smaller than other soundcards and that's why I always liked them, same on my Auzentech which has old Creative X-fi CPU, even has it's own built-in memory and with better components than creative back then which now creative improved so much but don't offer same good old stuff like 7.1 :(

    • @beepy9666
      @beepy9666 Před 3 lety +1

      It's a chore to actually find a 5.1 system that isn't utter garbage these days. Like, I actually *want* to be able to enjoy games outside a set of cans, no matter how good they are. I have a Logitech Z906 and I think it could be so much better if I went back to a dedicated card. On-board just does not have the quality nor functionality that Creative spoiled me with years ago.

    • @guily6669
      @guily6669 Před 3 lety +1

      @@beepy9666 Yep, I still have the Logitech Z5500 and they are totally unbeatable for the price, bought them in like 2005 brand new from a store in promotion for 250€ and they are still going strong.
      I see some 5.1 speakers costing even much more than 500€ and are also 1 small speaker without tweeter jeez...
      Anyway I recently paid more than my Z5500 for 5.1 speakers and they arrived today and it's sad that the 106€ subwoofer sucks and it's the worse thing I ever heard, the bass port is too small and makes more air noise than subwoofer sound at any volume...
      The Z5500 subwoofer is also 10 inch speaker but sounds pretty damn good specially for a 5.1 system that cost 250€ with 6 speakers, cables, controller, DTS and Dolby decoder and remote control...
      I totally loved old Creative stuff, they had an even more powerful 5.1 system than my Z5500 however it also cost a lot like around 500€ and you still needed to buy the controller\decoder if you wanted everything those Z5500 offer which was another 250€ above the speakers...
      Both Creative and Logitech died in my opinion, Creative doesn't even do 5.1 anymore, Logitech never made an actual proper replacement for the Z5500, the Z906 are worse and are also pretty outdated.
      Almost every brand now is all about crap portable speakers and even worse shitty expensive sound bars that are miles worse than just 50€ 2.1 speakers...
      PS: Don't really know wtf is going on with shitty soundbars and why they are actual speaker replacements nowadays FFS.
      EDIT: Also forgot to say most good quality expensive home theatre systems are more thinking in movies than gaming because they usually have more power in the front, specially the front towers which kick in much better than the rear satellites which they think is just for ambience while in games specially FPS you would want the same exact power and sound quality across all speakers because any gun firing or explosion must sound powerful no matter where it comes from...

    I can pick up this card for 125 dollars or some old audigy card half the price? Any recommendatiions? I have had creative soundcards before I forget which one. It did make my Sennheiser 599 headphones more "alive" the bass was deeper, the sounds were lounder and seemed richer somehow. (Though to be fair I have 599 headphones plugged into shit mobo audio and sometimes on youtube they wiilll do a sound comparison test and I can hear the difference...... which would imply that my hardware is capable of producing the required sound)
    But that card was PCI and I upgraded to a MOBO which didn't have that option. I'm thinking of upgrading headphone to sennheisser 650 and I will need something to to drive 300 ohm impedance.
    So the question is can you hear the difference between different dedicated sound cards subjectively.

      To be honest with you, I'm not quite sure on if different soundcards will perform differently. They're not something we actively look at on the channel.
