  • WOW! What a day!
Today Johnny spent the entire day on the stand. The vast majority of that was under direct examination by his own attorneys where they basically just asked him a question to set him up to tell his story. He covered the Australia Incident, the May 2016 incident, some incidents that occurred on flights, among many others. We heard some of the Depp/Heard audiotapes, and Johnny spoke of his mother's death, the divorce, Amber's Washington Post OpEd. So many things!
Finally, with roughly 20 minutes left in the day, Johnny's team ended their direct examination and the reigns were handed over to Amber's team. More specifically to Ben Rottenborn, or, as @HoegLaw likes to call him, 'Aggressive CrossEx Guy'. He gave us a taste of what to expect when trial resumes for day 7, Johnny got a little spicy with him, then things wrapped for the day.

Mostly good moments, a few bad moments especially towards the end of direct and start of cross for the reason of the case. I think the cheekiness with the objections may come back and harm him if he is not careful.
But I will say when he reached those final days when his mother passed away, I was on the verge of crying, I know how I felt when each of my parents died in similar ways in the last few years, watching them slowly get worse until they passed. But I just can't imagine what it would be like to deal with that grief while dealing with her BS, it would break many a people I think. Part of me feels that she was doing that to get him to crack and batter her so she could take him for everything.

This. I have c-PTSD from years of abuse, and often while trying to recount an incident my brain will just do what I call a blue screen. It's a trauma response, as well as the reality that PTSD does cause a bit of memory loss. I'll even forget what I was saying mid-sentence, or I'll just have no recollection of certain details. My heart goes out to Johnny having to listen back to the abuse in this trial. That's a heavy trigger and he's a trooper for keeping it together on the stand.

I was so used to being interrupted and being told what to think or what I meant to say that I had to practice finishing sentences. Reminds me of the way she described Depp's testimony when he first took the stand. A lot of this hits close to home and is really difficult to watch but man am I glad the world is watching it. This type of abuse needs as much exposure as possible. Hope you're healing and doing well!

This kind of thing happens a lot to wealthy people who aren't business oriented. They trust a company to run things for them, as long as they can spend as they wish, it's not a big deal.
There is some discussion that the video where he's smashing kitchen cupboards and Amber is goading him and secretly recording his outburst is around the time he first heard the news.

    1) Amber is heard complaining on numerous occasions that EVERY TIME they get in a fight JD immediately "splits". Totally opposite of what an abuser would do.
    2) JD recounted a particular argument where she followed him to multiple bathrooms and bedrooms preventing him from getting away from her supporting her claim of him "splitting".
    3) Amber herself admits on audio to hitting JD and throwing pots at him. And calls him a baby when he confronts her about it!
    4) Amber is on tape completely gaslighting him! He brings up instances of her physically abusing him and she responds by saying "that's irrelevant"
    5) Amber provided video of JD when he was angry and destroying cabinets...even in that state he still doesn't lay a hand on her.
    6) Multiple witnesses have testified that she had no marks on her after claiming JD broke her nose and gave her two black eyes.

Not DV, but emotional child abuse. And I can totally relate to that, that feeling of needing to record what’s said. Because the thing is, no one is perfect. You fuck up and your abuser takes that and tells you that since you messed up or you’re not doing what you’re supposed to, then what they’re doing is right. And your brain can take that and convince you it’s true sometimes. I usually just texted things my mother would say, but one day I just got so tired of everything that i recorded the argument. It wasn’t even a particularly bad one, just an argument, and I sent it to a few friends and my therapist. No one could sit through the whole thing, citing it was too disturbing and hard to listen to. And that alone was so vindicating and relieving to hear, that I wasn’t just being weak by being hurt so bad by this. That was she was saying was actually fucked up, and not me just overreading into everything.

I also used it to self medicate, I wasn’t really a social drinker. The way he described she still kept alcohol in the house, still drank in front of him, and even had him pouring her alcohol reads as manipulative and cruel. To then choose to get angry at him for having a drink with a friend while essentially rubbing it in his face with her use reads as controlling and abusive. I wonder if there are any recovering alcoholics on the jury.

I have to think their only tactic is to muddy the waters to a he said-she said and reinforced that this case is about specific defamation claims, not whether or not Johnny was abused. But we’ll see. It’s possible the jury will conclude they both abused each other, or it’s possible they will believe she was the sole perpetrator and therefore defamed him. But it’ll still be a challenge I think to actually win his lawsuit.

The way Amber speaks is really bringing back memories of my own experience with narcissistic abusers.
They will constantly escalate an argument and won’t allow you to leave until you say “You win.”
Johnny is trying to explain how he needs to step away from arguments but she’s actively twisting the motives by saying “No you’re running away from the solution” and then dismissing and over talking.
She is by no means portraying herself as a caring partner. She pushes arguments, she forces routines, and she only brings up issues when it’s to push a narrative.

The technique all therapists/psychs/social workers teach: arguement=> walk away until calm=> return to discuss is one we teach for proper problem solving. Never "talk" in heat of the moment.
To think he started out w/ penthouses: 1 to live in; 1 for Sis' Retreat from Grandkids; 1 for him & his writing; and 1 for painter Isaac =4.
Then AH's sister needed 1; her friend, Rocky, & bf needed 1; her friend (?) needed place to store clothes & her beads to make jewelry to sell 1; AH & JD live in 1 =4.
So Johnny's a nice guy., right? Lets her Friends & Fam live there FREE. And have another FULL penthouse (how much sh*t do these people have anyway??)
So: Does Isaac move out? I doubt JD's going to say, "Sorry, Sis." But he MIGHT have. I WILL GUA-RAN-TEE you that he DOES NOT keep one for HIMSELF.
So where does he go to get away from his Not-so-Lovely Wife? The FLOOR of a BATHROOM!! He OWNS the WHOLE D*** Floor of the Bldg - 5 MultiBedrm Penthouses & HE'S SITTING on the FLOOR of the BATHROOM to get away from his wife!!! He also GOES FROM 1 BATHRM to ANOTHER!! Why NOT a SPARE BEDRM??

Same! I cringe because I've been there. Called a coward who can't communicate but runs away. No, I was smart because I always knew what was coming. It wasn’t communication, rather emotional or physical abuse. Everything was always my fault or never his. They never take responsibility for their actions and try to turn it around on the innocent party.

I've seen too many videos of the way she speaks and acts and lots of people coming to the defence of Depp when very few have stuck their neck out for her. Even some of the people who have been on her side found she was lying and jumped her obviously sinking ship! He's just not got enough cut and dry evidence to prove what he's saying is true, which is a shame. People like her are why people suffering abuse are often not believed or listened to. She's pushing back all the progress we've made in bringing awareness and support to abuse by being manipulative, vindictive and often lying and exaggerating 😡

And some are buying it :"50 yr old violent, drug abuser man has no business with a beautiful 20 yr old girl. He should be in prison!"
Yes, JD's been a drug abuser & violent against OBJECTS - not people for 25+ yrs. But SHE'S got the documented CURRENT behavior.
He's been noted to be gentle, kind, do spontaneously kind acts without wanting anything in return or even to be noticed. He also appears to have a "no one left behind" attitude. I haven't been able to find anything attributable to her. (Not to say she hasn't.)

I would also like to add, that although I’ve never been through a detox, I do remember it taking a few days after surgery to get the timing down of the pain meds. That first night was unreal. I *needed* those meds. Absolutely out of my mind with pain. It turned out my body went through the meds a little faster than the doctor originally told us, by I believe an hour or two. I cannot imagine going through that amount of pain and having the people taking care of me withhold those meds until the exact time the doctor said. The time from the pain to the meds kicking in was genuinely traumatic. I would think that even if you want to follow the doctor’s directions to a tee, that you would call the doctor to let him know what’s going on and find out if it’s okay to give them earlier. Can you imagine watching your loved one go through that and be so rigid? Sorry, but reads again as controlling and abusive. It sounds like she was drunk on the power of Johnny being so dependent on her in that. It’s honestly sick.

It's ghastly but grit-teeth bearable if someone's there even counting down the minutes w/ you...doing superficial stuff: wet cloths, aromatherapy, ice packs, just distracting conversation (you might not talk or follow). THEY'RE just THERE.
AH's smug superiority reminds me of a few RN's, "You can't feel that way yet." "Bull***t! Let's trade places."

If this is all they have, Johnny has already won. All they did was reinforce his drug problems which he has already admitted to. The tape showing Johnny aggressive while he was drinking was probably the best moment for the defence, but they then did not manage to tie his aggression to being physically abusive to Amber in any way. Nothing seemed to show him as being directly physically abusive to her. No admittance in any texts, conversation, or witness over their entire relationship. If anything all it did was make Amber look strange for recording these moments. Why would you record intimate moments of someone you love struggling with drug addiction, and why would you be recording during a moment of your partner being aggressive, in which you claim he was physically abusive? Would it not be more likely you would call a friend or family member for help rather than hit record? The whole thing was very weak on Ambers side.

Speaking of laws: 1.Why did she let the Temporary Restraining Order lapse? 2. Why not file a Formal Police Report either time they came in response to her call on 15.12.15 (I believe correct date. Body cam vid on YT.)? 3. Why not press ANY charges at ANY time? (Statutes limitation apply now.)

From a mental health perspective, there are actually a whole host of issues with her being present while he was in treatment, because if she was the major trigger for most of his negative coping skills (because drugs and alcohol and even aggression can result from either not having the skills to cope with what is happening or further, finding the “coping” skills just aren’t enough and aren’t helping so resorting to escapism), if she was was a major trigger to relapse, he would be unable to learn new ways to cope because his mind would constantly just be flipping back to escapist behaviors, and ultimately his brain would never be able to heal. Also, medications should never be directed by someone you don’t trust, I would even say never be managed by someone who isn’t a medical professional. It pretty much can’t look like anything BUT controlling and manipulative behavior on her part when you put everything together.

I am so glad that Johnny is telling his side of the story! I think his name will be cleared for the sake of his children and his work/reputation, and I hope that he wins this case.

Omg. What a terrifying situation to be in. I feel just awful for Johnny and all victims of domestic violence.

I hope in closing they go through Amber's outfits and how she was trying to screw with him subtly even during this trial. Just 4 photos would make this point clear, 2 of Johnny and 2 of Amber, would really hurt her credibility

@@briannguyen6248 she was copying his outfits the next day. First day of trial she wore the same thing he wore during the last day of the UK trial, and second day of trial she wore the same thing he did on the first, even the tie was the exact same with the same symbol on it. If that isn't psycho or at least showing some amount of obsession towards Johnny I don't know what is.

@ 24:05 I literally hopped up from where I was sitting. Whenever I think my shock and horror are at a maximum, this case just unwinds more and more 😳

I'm trolling Amazon Prime and watching all of Johnny's movies. Also on Netflix. My little contribution and support for Johnny Depp. Jeez, he can act!

One of the things that stood out to me is that when JD went to break up with Amber, he brought two of his employees and asked them to stay close "in case something happens". That is not what abusers typically do, as they try a void witness at all costs and isolate. It is what victims do when they try to break up/retrieve their belongings. That is what I did when I was in abusive relationship and tried to leave. I was terrified to face that person on my own. I don't think Amber was scared of him. She also followed him during fights and tried to get into the rooms where he locked himself in. I would have been terrified to do that with my abusive partner and was the one always trying to evade or escape him. I would never feel emboldened enough to go seek him out during the argument and often I would do what JD attempted to do - which is hide or leave until he cooled off. Everything she did - does not align with someone who was abused.
