Here is is after 35 hours playing and still not finished a 20 hour game completely lol! Mainly because it’s the most I have enjoyed a game in ages, but also the most annoyed I have been at a certain times. Mark
After encountering my first spinning loading circle I thought I made a mistake waiting it on Switch and not playing on Game Pass for PC. But after spending some more time, I forgot about all these annoyances. It quickly transformed from some disappointment to a 13-hour non-stop play session and a sleepless weekend night. Literally couldn't put it away until I finished everything I could in the first colony (you are not alone here spending lots of time in the first mission of a 20-hour game).
Then I remembered that I've played through Fallout New Vegas on a first Surface Pro. I had to turn all graphics settings down to a minimum and lower screen resolution to 720p and it still had struggled at times. Actually, I had to do this for lots of games to even run on Surface Pro. Nevertheless, I had enjoyed Fallout New Vegas with potato graphics a lot back then - the same goes to The Outer Worlds on Switch now.
We just got spoiled lately and have forgotten that some time ago we used to play games where potato graphics and frame drops were the only way to play a game.
Also, I was able to have such a good non-stop play session ONLY because I've played it both in portable and on TV while sitting, lying, and even just standing in the middle of my room. I'll gladly trade some looks and performance for such convenience.
Nintendo needs to get pushed to make a more powerful system
I no I genuinely would be happy with 1080p with hdr and locked 30fps handled and 60fps docked and tad more battery life I don't think that to much to look for and at lest 512g of storage
When will we get a good pach i realy love this game but not cool to show a m8 that plays on ps4

Funny thing is that this is how Fallout 76 ran on a 2080Ti. Too bad for Switch owners though, because this really is a great game. Hoping for some patches and a sale down the road.

@SUBZEROUK Yeah that's a lot to solve, but not impossible if they're actually committed to it. We're used to blurry visuals on switch so if they can just solve the most jarring pop-in and mid-map loading I think people would enjoy the game.

Fallout 76 now runs very decent even on a RX 560
The game is great, I play it on Gamepass. If this port was at least as good as the Switcher I would have happily double dipped but that performance is inexcusable, you were definitely not too harsh. Maybe with a few patches and DEEP discount, I'll consider it but rn it's not worth it whatsoever. Would love to see yall revisit this one in your series where you look at games after a few patches.

Man I've gotta give you credit for your excellent review as usual. I really appreciate that you actually try the games for a decent amount of time before reviewing them. Many reviewers don't do that and its really important because sometimes the game can get better or worsen in its latter parts. I've had Outer Worlds on PC since release and I love it.
Probably won't get it anytime soon on my switch because I think they did a fairly poor job at porting it over to be honest. But maybe one day 🤷♂️

Oof Mark when you see the final score you know it’s a better game than that. Anything that can suck you in for hours on end is doing something right. And I know you spoke very highly of it and critically. I actually bought it off of your first review because I just had to know.
I have been so desperate for a fallout game that after a few pints I impulse bought it. You’re right $60 US is a lot for this game, and it should be selling for much cheaper, especially after the 2k collections just released. But for some reason I’m hooked, and can look past all of the faults.
I guess I trust your guys judgement enough at this point to appreciate your overall opinion more than the score. You’re rough critics but true fans. Feels great to be logging some hours on this when I know you fellas are doing the same. Thanks again for the review.

@@ZeusTheIrritable I don't think it's got to do with being older, its just more fun to play it on the Switch. I have a computer with a GTX 1080TI but for some reason I can't play single player games there. I just can't. I don't think they're fun. I don't feel comfortable sitting at the desk. Its much more fun to lay or sit wherever the heck I want and play essentially the same game, just with a worse graphical setting. Comfort & Fun > Graphics for me.

Great channel! Children of Morta is one of my favorite games of all time. I rarely finish games, but I did beat Children of Morta. :) Glad you are giving away copies of such an awesome game!
From what I've seen so far the game still looks playable. I'm not one to go after games with the best graphics all the time. As long as the story and gameplay is good, that works for me.

Frame drops during combat in a FPS can really sap your enjoyment though. Yeah playable but much better on literally any other platform. I say this as someone who buys damn near every AAA game ported to Switch for the convenience of portable gaming. But this...reminds me of Borderlands 2 on the PS Vita. Playable? Yeah. Will your eyes hurt? Also yeah.

They’ve since patched some of the performance issues but not all. Visuals are ok but yeah many of the outdoor scenes still look like smeary plasticine. I’ve already finished it on the X so it is a bit jarring in juxtaposition but I would still recommend it for the handheld experience. Great game and have thoroughly enjoyed replaying it on Switch. 👍
I got it on PC when it launched so I think it would be a lot harder to get into it on the switch due to the performance issues.
Such a shame, but hopefully they will do something about it in the future.
@@christianmcbrearty Hopefully they'll continue to issue patches to fix the issues but regardless if you can overcome the flaws with the presentation I would still recommend it.

Well, if it's on the switch lite a small handheld only screen via what I have where you cant see detailed graphics anyways and that's not what you care about you care about an actaully good game ( gameplay story something to get lost in for hours on end making your own story ect.) Would you say its worth the buy then?

It seems a big patch is coming October 21st? Definitely going to be checking reviews/updates hoping it's worth buying now. Playing in handheld just makes games so much more enjoyable and convenient, it's worth some performance sacrifices and waiting to get the Switch version.

I'm still glad I pre-ordered this, even if it's better on Gamepass where I first played it. I have a strange affinity for "impossible ports" and the like. Just as Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive was coming out on the Switch, I started a new game on the 3DS.

Only reason I wanted it on switch even though I have it on Xbox and pc thanks to gamepads, was because I am constantly traveling due to my job and want to finish this game.
A great, fair, well-rounded review! The music section was the highlight for me personally as I found that in many moments it transported me to the early oddworld games. The soundscape is very similar. 68% is very generous. If I were reviewing it I’d go to around 55% as the stutters, glitches, texture pops, frame rate and loading are at times abhorrent. The main takeaway at least is that players have a fallout-type experience on the go where the presence of an actual fallout title is absent from (looking at you BethSoft... time now to port FO3 GOTY please). I also became a subscriber thanks to this video. Thank you.

Plus the game dips down to 15 fps the only time it runs and looks like it's supposed to is inside buildings
Thanks for this. As I've gotten older, I've become more prone to motion sickness; framerate inconsistencies and input delays in first-person games seems to be the thing that triggers it the most reliably. Buying the game in this state seems to be a ticket to holding a vomit bucket. Any chance of a review for The Takeover? Thanks and be safe.

Great review, I pre ordered this and have put in about 12-13 hours so far. I have no issues with the graphics, yes it would be nice to have all those pretty visuals but to me it doesn't detract from the atmosphere or fun. The gyro assist aiming is a bit tough when the frame rate drops but I can deal with it.
This review was significantly more helpful in understanding what this game is REALLY like on the Switch than any other (of several) I've watched/read.

I own all consoles and a decent PC, but I still waited for the Switch version of The Outer Worlds and now got it on Switch because I want to play it on the go on vacation. Those reviews make me think about returning it and just getting the game on another platform, even though I really wanted to play this game on the go and was very excited about that though. I just hope I‘ll be able to (somewhat) enjoy it on Switch. Thanks for the great, detailed reviews!

Just want to note that even on a mid-high end PC there is some delayed pop in on textures/LOD. Ironically, on startup the game proudly shows an InstaLOD logo.

Hey guys! i love yor reviews and i try always to see them when not working, but i got to say this , i am graphic designer and ive notice that the font type u are using is not the most adecuate (its my opinion only), maybe you should use other font type for your texts, something more mothern and more opened. For example when you read the text sometimes the letter "a" can be confused with letter "e" or "o" when reading fast, of course you can pause the video every time the text appears but it can turn a little annoying. Again is just an opinion/idea. Love your reviews! as always, in fact youve made decide to buy allot of games i have now. Keep it up! your awesome!

How is it on handheld mode is it as blurry as wolfenstein 2 handheld?
Just finished this game on Switch along with 2 DLCs. Previously owned this game on Xbox but I bought the Switch version with expansion pass since I want some pocket adventure on the go where I can just plug in headphones and play anytime, without anyone disturbing me at all.
The frame rate isn’t high but mostly solid. Gyroscope is a bit sensitive (even low sen can’t fix it) but it only takes like few hours to get used to it. Resolution is supposedly a problem, but I don’t find myself having troubles in combats even when I use ranged weapons most of the time. It probably has something to do with the fact that the battles in this game isn’t exactly complicated when AIs are predictable. Plus gameplay wise I can just put a scope on my fire arm and I will immediately have a way further visuals on my surroundings. Loading time is apparently much longer than that on XBOX. For most cases it shouldn’t be a problem since we are usually travelling in open area, then until I reached Murder on Eridanos DLC where the story takes place in a hotel where the loading screen shows up upon entering and exiting pretty much every small facility.
Overall the journey is more than enjoyable. The aforementioned performance issues can be highly ignored when the Switch definitely doesn’t fail to deliver the great written story at all. It seems they put more efforts to ensure cutscenes and conversations work properly. The motions of NPC when interacting with you are just as good as these on console versions.
I ended up spending 80 hours in the game and there are a lot of fun moments and it is all thanks to the portability of Switch. I never need to force myself to rush any part of the story or dungeons since I can pick up where I left off at any time. It has been a long while since I have so much fun exploring a single player game world since BotW.
how does the game compare now to when it was first released considering getting but i only play on lite
@@tico305goon it is definitely more than just playable. You certainly won’t have big troubles in combats and if you get killed it is 100% because you are underleveled/underequipped. The game has a little tendency to crash but only when you enter Groundbreakers (probably like one out of 20 times). However it isn’t going to hurt at all since the game will auto save by the the you enter Groundbreaker as well so you will not lose any progress.
@@abc2390986 does it still get choppy when enemies are cus i remember seeing that in other vids that was the biggest 👎 for still considering wether or not to buy the bundle since its on sale

This is a very solid review. I only have the switch to play on, and I had heard how amazing is game is and so I just had to buy it. Even though I knew the graphical Fidelity was pretty crappy, I think a lot of the reviewers factor that in as the most prevalent part of their review and just crapped all over the game without taking into account the actual amazing gameplay that still happens on the switch. If I were to read it, I would give it a 68% as well, or a 7 out of 10. it's an amazing game, but you are very right. The graphical performance of this game definitely hinder it at times. However it is definitely still very playable, and if this is the only console you can play it on I couldn't recommend it enough. But I too agree, if you have another system to play it on, definitely play it on that and not the switch. But if you only got a switch, go for it a hundred percent
I'm loving the game myself, it's the option of having it in handheld, I have gamepass but never get chance to play for long sittings so. Outer worlds isn't for me on Xbox. The graphics are rough but the gameplay so far for me has been fantastic. I really hope they will put some serious patch action on this and make it shine, at least a little!

I enjoyed, and was not bothered by the graphical hit with The Witcher 3.
Using that as a baseline - would the graphical issues/clarity be similar to that?
I have access to this on Xbox Gamepass (last I checked) but I just know I will play it more on the switch, what with being able to take it with me

I got a copy of this on PS4, yet to play it. If I like it enough I'll prob get it for switch at some point. (Just got Borderlands Legendary collection, that'll keep me busy for a while... And I'm about to get risk of rain 2)

@@GamerBoy870 I would say so yes. I briefly played each of the 3 games to see how they run, solid 30fps, but I would say it's more satisfying to play them hand-held. Currently playing the pre sequel as that's the game I haven't played much of (BL1 is still my fav in the series, means a lot to me as I was going through difficult times and this helped me through it). I paid £35 on Amazon, you get a physical copy of BL1, the pre sequel and BL2 are downloads (all dlc included).

@LeeR Well your timing for ror2 is great as the artifact update is launching soon, and I highly recommend it, and when you do get it loader is so fun. And if you really like rouge likes, look into enter the gungeon btw, one of my favorite rouges has a nice charm
Is the game more playable after updates over the past year or so?
I’m having fun with it. Lots of fun, actually. Well worth the price of admission. Sure, it doesn’t look as good as Switcher but nothing a few updates couldn’t fix. I’m happy with the purchase. But for some reason Obsidian ports seem to have issues at launch on Switch (cough, cough looking at you, Pillars of Eternity, which had genuine game breaking and save breaking glitches but is now pretty great).
Currently on sale, at least in the US, for $39.99. I picked it up at GameStop with a $5 coupon and took it home for $37 including tax, which I think is a reasonable price. Everything this video says is true: if you can look past the performance and visuals (which are occasionally not terrible), there's a wonderful game here. Apparently the developers are taking another look at this to improve the performance. Here's hoping.
Unfortunately I don’t have another choice. I’ll wait and see how railway empire reviews and then decide between the two. I’m definitely happy to see it’s not andromeda though 😁
I may be interested in this, it does have large amount of perks to choose from like fallout does it? I didn't like fallout had too many perks and couldn't really choose what I wanted or I needed some for certain missions. I preferred mass effect and motor style rpgs the best as they don't offer you too many perks/skills.nplus had too many things going a tiger once so to me was hard figure what to do. lol I wish I could explain better but I hope hat I said gives idea. I have heard a lot good things about it and often say if your not fan fallout this game still may be something that I might like.

The load screens still exist on other systems as well. I played it recently on Xbox One S and the loading is actually longer on it. I'm 9+hrs in to the Switch port, nowhere near that on Xbox. I got past the ugly pretty quick, the story and gameplay is that compelling and hooks you in. It didn't run great on my Xbox One S, so I wasn't expecting a miracle. I haven't had much studdering or frame rate dips. I'm on the Anton lab quest on Groundbreaker.

@@SwitchUpYt playing this makes me hope for more western RPGs like Mass Effect trilogy, Fallout franchise, KOTOR, Elder Scrolls Online, ES 4 Oblivion, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, Witcher 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, Two Worlds and if Microsoft wants to make tons of money, Fable series.

I had this on pre order and was two minds to cancel it prior to release as there was no early reviews. Having watched your initial performance review I let the pre order stay as I don’t own any other console.
Should have waited for a sale as you say but I collect physical copies and sometimes waiting for a few months means they physical copies either are sold out or twice the price. I’m playing Bioshock right now so it will sit unwrapped until I hear that they’ve further patched it. I hope you return to it on another video once it’s had a few patches.

Great review but I'm really disappointed with the issues. Hopefully they can continue to work on these issues and sort them out. Loved the fallout series and was hoping this would fill that very noticeable void on the switch. Keep up the great work.

I'm still going to get The Outer Worlds at some point - it just sounds so interesting, and I usually play in handheld mode so hopefully the issues will affect me less. The Switch is my only console, so I don't have the option of playing it anywhere else, and I can deal with the slightly bad graphics if the story and gameplay are good (FE3H has some pretty bad textures in the cutscenes but it's still one of my favourite games on Switch). I will wait for a sale though, but I would have done that anyway because the price is a bit too high for me. Hopefully by the time I buy it they'll gave released some patches to make it smoother.
I forgot to ask - are the character faces in this game always so expressionless? Maybe I'm just too used to playing games with anime style graphics and more obvious facial expressions ^^;
It's odd. I've never encountered those random loading sequences. I have a really good SD card though. Maybe that's your issue?
I've put in about 10 hours of gameplay as of now, and I totally agree with your scoring. It's fun to play, but annoying to play.

I had this ordered for several months and was really looking forward to it, but blurry visuals, choppy framerates and load times really break a game for me. - Graphics are obviously not as important as gameplay, but I do want them to run as smoothly as possible. - I cancelled after seeing performance previews and will only consider a purchase if it's heavily and successfully patched.
I do have an option to buy on PS4, but honestly my Switch has become my primary console and favoured way to play. - Hopefully the developers will listen and work on giving the fans the conversion we wanted.
It's been said before, but Witcher 3 set a precedent on Switch. If they could get that running as well as it does, then there really isn't much of an excuse.
A very fair and considered review - thanks for being objective about your criticisms. It's true the pc version is far from silky smooth, but there are simply too many compromises for me to double up and buy this version as well - portability just isn't worth it especially at over 40 quid. Come on, at least price it fairly publisher.

I think the game is playable, but I'll wait until they fix it a bit more.
Those loading times and the fps dropping below 20 are too much for me.
I waited to get this game on the switch even though I have a gaming pc and ps4. I really hope future patches can smooth out the frame rate and overall performance.
I respect this video a lot, you took your time and did not dismiss the game. I’m very happy with the port and I’m enjoying the game immensely, it really is a case of the game being really good versus a not so optimal way of playing.
Great review. Honesty shines through. It is a great game, i love it on ps4...and thats the problem innit. A great game that is yard to far graphically for the switch. Now we really do need a switch pro now. Devs are lining up to drop triple A ports on switch because of that huge user base but they going to need to optimise them. You did the game justice. It is..underneath the shocking graphics.. a belter of an rpg. Well done. Didnt come over harsh at all.

Is it too demanding for the Switch though? Is The Outer Worlds more demanding than The Witcher 3? We all saw how that turned out ie much better than this effort.

Thank you for being an honest reviewer. Another reviewer actually gave this an 8/10 despite all the issues. It's a great game, but not on Switch and definitely not worth $60 given how the game performs

I caved 😂 I died when I saw your sale video and I got bargains this week and ended up buying two point hospital, prison architect & Motorsport Manager..... as Mark said very well... I hate sales they need up costing me soo much money.... but they end up being so good..
