I’ve never liked spring loaded pliers either. I don’t know what Danco did different but they made it work, no creep or sticking spring even after using in salt water. I LOVE my Danco pliers!

Those were my first pair of Dancos 2 years ago.. I beat them up pretty good! And they continue to work well.. Still my favorite pair!! The premios are also a great choice if you want one nice pair. The lanyard is great and fly fishing friendly!

Great review ... agreed on your assessment of these pliers. I own 10 pairs... that’s right 10 pairs that include the admiral, prodigy and the beast. I use them for saltwater fishing and ice fishing. The have great holding power and the cutters are great for any type line. Great product for the price !! The only con I can state is the sheath... It tends to rotate off the waist at times. Besides that the are an awesome product !!

You own ten? Nice! Which one would you pick as your favorite? I'm looking to get a pair.

Matt L I would use the prodigy or admiral for in shore and the beast for off shore .. that seems to work well for me.. good luck Matt

I love mine. For those in the Tampa area, I got mine at Tampa Fishing Outfitters.

Picked-up a pair of the "Sawed-Off" Pliers a couple of months ago. They are such a step up from what I had been using I am almost reluctant to get them dirty. Solid, rugged and fit my hand well. Great purchase.

In reference to the coil just use bungee cord you can get exactly what I use at Walmart or any boating store the same stuff you use on your kayaks. You've got chopped a section of your preferred links cramped onto some split rings and then you can just put them on to the pliers and it's impossible for anything to get called up in it.

My buddy has the full titanium version in fact he won model 001 and they are so pretty and cut perfectly and grip great. Glad to see them making a cheaper version I'm sure they will be just as good

Those are great and affordable pliers only con I have Is for the cutters them selves make sure you get a Allen wrench and tighten them up from stock I’ve noticed they’ve been loose

Thanks for all of the reviews you do. You offer a lot of helpful information. I like the line abrasion resistance and casting distance tests you've done as well.
I would like to see a comparison test of casting distance between regular spinning rod guides and the "longer casting" microwave guides. I believe it's all sales hype. You may have already done the rest and I haven't seen it. Thanks

Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment Melvin! I have wanted to do that exact test. The only hold-up has been finding a match that can isolate the variable... for the test to be accurate, we'll need to have the rod length and flex to be the exact same (ideally the same exact bland) in order to lessen the variables. But I haven't found a manufacturer that has an option for both microwave guides or traditional guides on the same blank.

Personally I like the lanyard and sheath but the 2 cons that I have is that the sheath is very flimsy and loose, and being a lefty I dont like that the lanyard does come in a universal type set up that let's you choose, instead it's set for righties

Thanks for the review Luke! I personally use Berkley pliers that look like the are basically the same thing with no issues after about a year. I did notice on Amazon a set of pliers and a fish gripper by HJJS Fishing Pliers for $25! Their pliers are stainless and appear to function the same as the Danco and it comes with a fish gripper made from aluminum that has a measuring tape and a scale. Seems like too good to be true. Ever heard of HJJS pliers?

There isn’t a pro for the admiral or prodigy. The highest tier I see is the tournament. The pro series have gripping which don’t look comfortable.

Ya'll should look into Cadence fishing products, they have affordable gear & have a mission statement similar to yalls "Go Fishing, give back". They donate whatever fishing gear you buy to a charity that takes kids out fishing.

Looks awesome. One small question since I can not see the item that well. Do these pliers have a split ring feature? I’ve been using split rings of different sizes and when that happens, a split ring feature is wonderful. Or does a nipple cause the pliers to become categorically split ring pliers??

    • @billlavelle9494
      @billlavelle9494 Před 5 lety

Follow up.. regarding the lanyard and the entanglement. I’ve been looking more and more to not carry holsters on the mid-waste belt. As I’ve gotten older, finding it more difficult to grab waste items especially when bent over, etc. maybe try Holstering your dominate hand’s outside calf. I find it more accessible, easier to drop and push out of the way, and probably more likely to stay in the boat?? With a calf location the lanyard is more likely find ground or floor and not dangle and swing.
It’s my view, product review must be qualified and you did quit a bit of that. Already a subscriber and will be happy to provide a like.

The version that I featured in this video does not include a split ring point. But they have some other models that do have one.
