  • On May 10th and 11th 2019, we visited the Golden Spike National Historic Park in Promontory, Utah, along with thousands of other railfans and history buffs, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad!
    Look familiar? Some of this footage in this video was used by Modeltrainstuff.com under license in their Spike150 video - our producer contracts with Modeltrainstuff and shoots footage for both channels.

    Jupiter and 119 are both gorgeous

    What would be cool is if they made some mockups of the coaches the original engines were pulling I also love the blue on Jupiter

    I know this won't happen...
    The most epic thing would be if on the 200th Anniversary, or some other huge landmark, Jupiter and 119 met their replicas, and instead of the replicas doing that scene, the originals steamed until face to face on Utah's rails once again

      Unfortunately, as great as this would be, the originals were scrapped in the early 20th century.

    0:43 why does that whistle sound like southern pacific daylight 4449?

    • @SouRwy4501Productions
      @SouRwy4501Productions Před rokem +2

      Because chime whistles don’t work well at high speeds, causing 4449’s big Hancock 3 chime to sound like a deep-toned hooter.

    This is beutiful

    Do the engines ever get to pull anything?

    • @HighIronProductions
      @HighIronProductions  Před 3 lety +3

      Unfortunately the don't, however they do sometimes get hauled around the site by a resident GE 25T switcher when not in steam.

      They don't have any rolling stock on site. While it would be awesome, there's not all that much track in the park. Just enough to demonstrate the meet and wye the locomotives.

    How many of this class still exist?

      This is false ax ur ally- the general, Texas, and a handful are original but there are a handful of replicas to, about maybe under 50 of these styled engines left, replicas and real in total.
