One of her most underrated albums of her career. Warner Bros was wrong for not promoting it. This was a definite jam and went well in the 90s.
Chris Gilrath: It was not underrated at all at the time, notably, outside the US. Nor concerning her discography or older fans. But it is true that Warners Bros slept on this album, specially regarding the US market. It was a missed opportunity on that level. By that same time she was featured in Whitney Houston's cover version/video of "I'm Every Woman" and on other artists' projects in the US and they should've had profited on that...

I always consider this the first serious R&B album I bought with my own money. I was just 13, and took my allowance to the local record store and picked this up. I still have it to this day. It was such a key moment in my journey as a listener.

Boy!!! When I met this woman at the botanical gardens in Memphis back in 97 I was only 26 our encounter lasted about an hour at a backstage meet and greet with her band I’m a drummer and a friend of mine played drums for her band. I instantly fell in love with her. She is so beautiful and down to earth. Love you Chaka or Yvette

When music was true R&B. You still had the veteran artists making great hits and vying for radio airplay. 1992 was a good year in music. I still have an episode of Video Soul on VHS with this song on it. Perfectly sung vocals and perfect instrumentation on this classic song. This was written by one of her female back up singers.
No it wasn't. It was written by a male songwriter who didn't live to see the fruits of his labor.In fact on the cd, Chaka dedicated this song to him because he didn't live to see it's release.

Freemon Williams: You guys in the States slept on her after this album, but she has done more great songs after this in the 90's...with Guru, Meshell Ndegeocello and a lot of other less known artists...she also did an ALL Prince produced album in 1998, "Come 2 My House" and 2 years later she teamed with De La Soul in their 2000 hit "All Good?"...the next year she did "The Essence" a collaboration with Herbie Hancock in his album "Future2Future". She then recorded her all classics cover album in 2004, "ClassiKhan"...and later, in 2008, she recorded the Grammy winning album "Funk This" produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis with highlight duet "Disrespectful" with Mary J Blige...added some other collaborations in between and recorded again with Quincy Jones the song "Keep Reachin'" 2 years ago and her 2019 album "Hello Happiness"...so, where the f*** have you been dude?! She never stopped doing music and touring...

Her album with prince was great but I'm saying to me she was always exceptional but to me like every artist has their exceptional album in my opinion this was her work of art.... I was definitely familiar with this song when it was released in the summer of 1992 (One of the best summers ever!) and listening to this nowadays, I can't help but think of the Boomerang flick. While this song is not featured on the flick's soundtrack and all were released around the same time, I think this song would've been a fit for the film & soundtrack due to the lyrical theme mirroring the film's storyline as well as the song's production sounding similar to L.A. & Babyface's sound during that time. IJS.
