Charles Pettigrue was a very dear friend of mine from the mid 80's. He was a good old soul and more talented vocally than this song even hints at!! I got to know him because he attended Berklee College of Music and he worked part-time at the Marriott at Copley Place. We worked as bartenders in the banquet department. What a fun and crazy crew!

Here in the US, it peaked at 13, and not for long; tastes here had shifted away from "old school" to hip-hop and rap by then and this was considered almost a novelty record. Holds up well against the Spinners, Delfonics, Dramatics, Stylistics, O'Jays and others of the late 60's-early 70's era. Problem was, their second single did much worse and the third barely charted at all. And they were done by '95.

Wow what a great song after 30 years. Charles died in 2001 but Eddie is still going I saw him on the internet what a great kind man he is . Short grey hair of course but he is such a gentle soul. He was devastated when Charles died. They were great friends. Now I get the impression from Eddie that I see an American Indian in him.❤
