  • Have you ever attempted to pass someones Guard, only to get bogged down in the grips of Spider Guard?
    This is the problem one of the viewers is running into during his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.
    So in this video I go over some of the easiest grip breaks for spider guard.
    The 1st two grip breaks are stupid simple and the last Spider Guard counter is a fun version. It's one of my favorites to hit.
    The video is not focused on a particular counter or guard pass. But rather on the grips themselves.
    If you fight the grips effectively. The Spider Guard is much
    So if you're having trouble getting past Spider Guard in Brazilian Jiujitsu. I hope the techniques in the video helps.
    I hope the video helps!

    Thanks, fellas! Have struggled with getting stuck in spider guard during sparring.. and if/when I do, I’m typically already exhausted.

    Ok, so I worked on pass 1 and 3 last night.
    I have the following takeaways:
    1. Giving someone who likes spider guard their preferred grips makes them happy.
    2. The passes all work (Yay! --- not that I succeeded beyond step #2 on any of the passes, but it's clear that with drilling and more assertive movement I should be able to use them against non-passive training partners). Just the initial pinning for grip clearance and reset is useful on its own in any case.
    3. The hard part isn't the movements, it's getting a feel for when the hip is actually pinned, especially with relaxed opponents who have good timing.
    4. I was notably reminded that pass #3, unless done quickly will lead to leg locks. Repeatedly...
    5. I was also told that #3 was only to be used on instructors. The look in my purple belt instructor's eyes told me he wished I was not allowed to use it. I found #3 was easier than the one where you pin the hip with the shin, because we worked on a very similar open guard pass a couple of weeks ago.
    This leaves me to ask one (read three) question:
    What constitutes a pinned hip and how pinned does it need to be? And how can I tell if it's pinned before moving?
    All in all, very useful. I'll be watching this again tomorrow before class.

    Thank you! This was very helpful I am a white belt as a kid I struggle with the long videos because they are so long and normally I get bored and lose interest so it doesn’t make as much sense. And they talk a lot about different stuff which also makes me loose focus. But this was short,and you guys got straight to the point. Thank you again this was very helpful! 😊
    Can you also do some more vids on getting out of mount and side control.

    What do you do when there is no school near me. I have no money or ride either. All I have is a decent dummy and knee pads cuz mat is very small. Also no partner...am I completely fucked? But I feel like I'm learning ...and the technique it works on my friends at house parties. But they kinda do exactly what I'd expect them to do and just panic lol

      Chum no I am 26 about ten years ago I did little hopkido and learned positions and kimura an arm locks from Mount n gaurd n didn't know it was bjj when I learned it. An simple trap an rolls so I M not a brand new white belt I've been watching bjj as a fan for about 8 years as well. But because I've been watching so long I know how clean stuff looks but really need mat time. I've never been to bjj school. Only know very basic stuff but compared to one of my friends who never even seen BJJ I'ma beast lol so I don't have anything near me at all that I can get to... Might have to save up for online shit...online belt or no belt is what comes down to. Either way I just want to do BJJ. Don't care about any ranks. I just enjoy rolling .

      If you mean the low grip, then it's because you may not have the hip pinned I would think, I can't actually quite visualize what you mean.
      If you mean just as a grip break it's fine/bad --- fine as in it works, bad as in it can really fuck up people's fingers so more of a use with care thing.

    • @BrianMansfield75
      @BrianMansfield75 Před 6 lety

      Ronny Mo depends who I am training with... the longer someone trains they need to know when to let go as well. I'll walk over step on their bicep and pull... and the force I need is up to them. After pinning the arm or just pushing on the bicep if I can't pin it then I pull... if they insist and hold on that's on them

    • @BrianMansfield75

    A. #2 is called the lawnmower pass.
    B. That's NOT spider guard. Anyone calling those grips spider guard has never been in a true spider guard.
    Now, before you disagree. I train at a Tinguiha affiliate academy. In case you don't know. Tinguiha is the man who invented spider guard.

    • @BrianMansfield75
      @BrianMansfield75 Před 6 lety

    • @StillRolling
      @StillRolling Před 6 lety +5

      Looks like spider guard to me unless you only play spider and collar and before you disagree, I'm a black belt under Samuel Braga and have trained with Romulo Barral and pretty sure they have showed those same grips as "spider guard" Chad and Chewy in my opinion have it right👍 Not trying to be a jerk but I really would like to know what you mean by true spider guard? The technique itself? The body position? More resistance?
