Wonderful man. Head of singing at GSDM told me he left the guildhall the way he went in (in other words he has a God-given gift). He's really liked because he's a very decent, down to earth bloke. Loved him in Flying Dutchman and Boris last year and Meister singers. But I will pay whatever it takes to see him sing Scarpia. Hard to believe Cardiff singer of the world gave us Bryn T and Dimitri H in the same year.
Intelligent, interesting, informative, insightful and impeccable -Royal Opera House at it’s best.. as always. Enjoyed it immensely. Thank you!

Bryn and Tony two masters of the modern art
What a great singer and artist Bryn Terfel is. My twin brother and I have seen this very personable singer on stage a few times. Great moments like the flying Dutchman and Boris Gudonow as an example. How happy we are to get to know him and his equally lovely wife. Very thanks for all, Sir Bryn Terfel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bryn's voice is unreal and out of this world.
Oh and the wonderful album of Schubert's songs from his earlier ages - sang by such intimate sublime musicality! Remarkable.
What a fantastic interview by both Bryn and Tony. When will Legends of Opera feature programmes on them? And Bryn is so right about the disaster for live music performance that this pandemic has become
I was in Boris Godunov and I was one of the children. I met Bryn and I can say he's outright amazing!!

I always enjoy the interviews with Antonio Pappano , I have been an admirer of Bryn Terfel since Cardif Singer Of The World . I have several times seen clips from the ROH production of Tosca with Terfel as Scarpia , but I think the production vulgarizes and makes a caricature of his role . Tito Gobbi in the role of Scarpia was so suave and much more credible and frightening . Scarpia was a man of tremendous authority , not just visibly a vilain .
I did not enjoy Bryn's vibrating tone, it is better than decade ago. I do not think he has the large volume when sitting live at his opera.
Always disappointing to compare current singers to the golden era, especially Gobbi. Not only voice, but his acting is outstandingly rich and detailed. There are quite so few great Scarpias. Tito Gobbi is my #1.
@@user-py1jg6bb2r I agree , None so Great a Scarpia than Tito Gobbi , his acting was remarkable , versatile , a great comedian and he had the ability to adapt the tone of his voice to every situation , his Era La notte from Otello is unforgettable .
@@Huaimek861 I am glad you mention Comedian, many only thought he is the best Scarpia with Callas in Tosca... I was stunned and surprised by his artistic taste in so many roles...
And Cardiff competition that year, it was the russian baritone that won the top prize, spoke little English and had no money to buy a decent suit...But both of them cannot be compared to Tito Gobbi or Ruffo.
I love Bastianini, but his Scarpia is not as satisfied as Gobbi's.

@@user-py1jg6bb2r Thank you for posting the clip , a very good example . Did you see Gobbi in the film of Palliacci available from Belcanto Society in which he plays both Tonio , very funny , also Silvio with a much lighter voice .

I also love Sherill Miles to sing Scarpia.
Now those baritones have such a high pitch voice like a tenor, I cannot follow. (especially thomas hampson)
There is a great voice of today's stage, baritone tone.
