    I am pretty sure Mother's Basement is known as the SAO hater since he made like atleast 10 videos about how much it sucks. As for Garnt's content I do think he does shit on a show in a very funny way. It's like making it funny solves all the problems.

    I feel like the negativity era of CZcams had some some really golden moments, like Mr. Plinket dunking on the Star Wars prequels, HBomberGuy's "Sherlock is Garbage and Here's Why" and Supereyepatch Wolf's Fall of the Simpsons. These weren't just negative, they were *critical* and while there was a lot of snark, these are guys who really cared about the material and were basically educating you on what makes for good story telling. But most creators aren't that thoughtful or hard working, so the rampant negativity was like a kind of abomination of the "good" explainer video genre.

    • @Scarshadow666
      @Scarshadow666 Před 9 měsíci +18

      There is a major difference between criticism for the sake of itself/spreading negativity vs legitimate constructive criticism (the former doesn’t help build up people to continue working creatively, while the latter does depending on the timing and what an artist’s intentions are).
      It’s also important for people to be mindful of what videos they consume too. As an artist, I’ve had to learn to back away from critical review videos from time to time, as too much critique videos can easily mess with getting into the headspace of creating art freely/stifle creativity (in my experience).

    There’s a CZcamsr I watch where back in the day, his videos used to consist of dunking on certain anime, specifically older titles. I found them very hilarious. A lot of them were my favorites, and the things he would say about them. 😂
    At the end of the day, it is just his opinion. It’s fine if he doesn’t like some of them. I have better things to worry about than hating on someone hating on an anime that I like.

      Bennett the Sage, right? I'm newer to anime, and I've been watching a lot of his videos this year.
      Yeah, in a lot of his early stuff, I'd describe him as the "Doug Walker of anime," not to mention he was another reviewer who used to work for CA (which he left for obvious reasons). But I gotta admit, it's inspiring how much you see his videos improve over the years. They became more nuanced and insightful coming from an older anime fan. Even if I don't 100% agree with his takes, there's a sincerity to it, as I've seen another commenter say. I feel his more recent reviews are well worth watching.
      That Evangelion Rebuild video he made last year is going to stick with me til the day I die.

    It can depend on the media your critiquing. With Studio Ghibli films, people are super protective about it, which is understandable (to an extent), but i have also noticed that when Male presenters dunk on something, either it's fine or neutral. But when anyone who isn't a Dude says something negative, the backlash is a lot more intense or stronger.

  • @aidanredding8058
    @aidanredding8058 Před 6 měsíci +1

    I think part of why hating on stuff was more popular back then for a few reasons.
    1. It was old stuff nobody cared about. It was either things universally hated like the Zelda CD-I games or the Mario Movie, or stuff nobody had even heard of like Plumbers Don't Wear Ties or Titanic: The Legend Goes On.
    2. It was never meant to be taken seriously, it was just "hey let's look at this shitty thing and laugh at it for a bit".
    3. Most of the early ones like AVGN or NC were characters. Their opinions were exaggerated for the sake of comedy.
    Now most negative reviews are for brand new stuff, take themselves super seriously, and are expressed not even as opinions, but as fact. It went from "This 20 year-old movie sucks" to "There hasn't been a good movie in decades".

    • @lucky4d725
      @lucky4d725 Před 4 měsíci

      That last part is extremely true. Like when the writer strike was happening for example.
      The people who were against it would always use the same lie that "there haven't been any good movies for the last decade, so who cares if writers lose their jobs. They deserve it for being so horrible at writing" like a moving broken record.

      @@asdowo111 I haven't seen the anime, but the manga handled all of its themes quite well. Good mixture of fun, genuine chemistry and some good messages, on top of solid character development. Rare to see a romance that doesn't annoy the shit out of the reader with 'will they won't they', because, spoilers:
      They both already know the feelings of the other. It's unspoken, but they both know it already. It's not about an oblivious protagonist, or wondering if they'll get together or not. It's already an open and shut case. It's more about how these characters develop and work through their situations now, and on *how* they'll get together.
      It's also part of the character development that Nagatoro learns to cut down on the intensity of the teasing, but still teases him at a point where they're both comfortable with it.
