    Notice that Mortimer laughs hysterically when Owen suggests the game. This might mean this had never happened before, so when he says "NOW YOU'RE THINKING LIKE A PUPPET", he's amused, and hopeful that Owen will choose the Handeeman this time.

    Can't we just take a moment to appreciate how they were able to do a prequel that barely conflicted with the existing lore and tone of the original Hello Puppets? It enhanced it wonderfully.
    Other games, I won't name names, you can see that it leads in but at times you really have to fudge it, force it, and tie yourself into knots to make it work, and even then there are so many loose ends it's a chore.
    Plus it leaves the door open for a sequel (well the door was already open for 1 but there are greater possibilities and growing interests.) The puppets are alive. Owen is technically alive somewhere that's why they're still here, once Owen is gone they'll all cease to be.

      It would have been more of a problem if Riley got to be the leader like she originally wanted. Unlike Mortimer, she prefers to stick to the shadows, abducting people and plotting against them -- she is also preparing for outright war against humanity. Mortimer wanted to restart the show, believing humans would come and willingly put puppets on their hands (that's the trick here, the host must do the first step). Needless to say, his plan sucks because a) it's not enough to just turn the camera on and start recording to get a show broadcasted, b) his puppets are ugly af, while the Handeemen behavior is downright creepy, so the only people coming to the place would be the police, instead of kids and parents. And I think that fire works very well against them, but they simply managed to avoid the damage by retreating to the levels untouched by fire.

      I think they devoured his soul, the creator's soul, to sustain themselves. In audio records, Riley admits that she doesn't know how to use a microscope, while Mortimer knows. As if he is more "alive" than she is. So, I think they need Owen, the part of his soul to be with him all the time - but they can only absorb it if he is willing. So they torture him until he gives up. That's my take on the events. It also explains why other puppets made by Handymen (and not Owen) are barely sentient. However the idea that Owen is still alive in that mutilated husk is creepy af.

Owen didn't bring her to life. In fact, Mortimer was the only one brought to life by a human. All the other puppets are linked to Mortimer himself. That also would be why they didn't just kill Mortimer when they rose up. If he dies, they all go down with him.
      I have a theory. Their needing him to accept them has less to do with the spell that brought them to life and more with erasing his mind. They keep sending him to new bodies because their life forces are tied to his. If they can get him to stop fighting, it would be easier to completely suppress him. They can keep transferring the obedient remnants of his mind to new hosts and use him as a battery forever. That, or they plan to modify him to make themselves better. If Rylie is limited by the original mind, then modifying the mind transference spell could start ripping skills from the host's heads and storing them in Own's soul.

      But, Owen is a lot like Alan Wake in a sense of never giving up even if it means losing. Every soul transfer, he relives the hellish night it all went wrong over and over again. But at the end, he creates another new Scout, another good puppet to destroy the Handeemen someday. He loses the battle, but I suppose he figures he'll one day win the war. Owen keeps making Scout clones, each time the puppet comes out, Alan Wake keeps writing. Each hoping this time, they will be released from their prison. Very important question, considering how close midnight show is to the original (it happens after the fire). What causes Mortimer to change appearances?
    Every puppet's clothes are changed, like different coloured clothes and Mortimer's bigger-sized hat, which could be explained by "they wanted to change clothes".
    But the puppets in the original have smaller pupils, somehow, and the original's Mortimer had more sharp, claw like fingers, aswell as having more "curve then a flick" style eyebrows.
    This is instead of Mortimer's big green pupils, Semi-sphere like fingers, and his simple curved eyebrows, he has in midnight show.
    And I wonder why the smaller pupils, different eyebrows, and sharp claws?
    Is the smaller eyes because Owen accepts them and they start going "full chucky", making their appearance more "human" and therefore their eyes change.
    I thought they might've edited themselves because of the fire, but the ending throws a wrench in that, since this takes place years after the fire.

      My theory is that the spell used to brings the puppets to life turns them into more sinister versions of themselves throughout the years, like how Mortimer is shown as a more kid-friendly appearance in Midnight Show and after several years, his body, along with the rest of the Handeemen, shifted into more vicious and twisted versions in the original

And since they haven't been harmed by the fire, it can't be a rebuild because of the fire either.

    • @thedarkdevil1661
      @thedarkdevil1661 Před rokem +15

Plus, Riley has the costume from midnight show in the posters from the original, instead of the original's design, with a shirt and tie.
      So the only explanation is the latter. Their appearances change due to Owen accepting them, but that still doesn't explain why Scout didn't receive those changes, yet Owen clearly accepted her.

    Okay, so we know that Scout isn't Harper. However, the Scout that helped us in Hello Puppets is not the same Scout that we have here, as seen by the Scout here being in the room that we spawn in in the original.
    My theory is that the puppets realized that Owen had created a new puppet and wanted to try to create new puppets themselves. However, the spell mirrors the caster, and since they are all mirrors of Owen with certain traits amplified and/or diminished, it mirrored the diminished trait (Owen's compassion) and put that into the new Scouts. Since they had essentially the same personality, they all got the same name.
    We know that the spell probably mirrored the diminished trait in the puppets because Mortimer had brought the other puppets to life, not Owen. Essentially, Riley, Daisy, and Nick Nack are mirrors of Mortimer (because he was the one to cast the spell) and emphasize his less prominent traits (seeing as how he isn't really scientific, but still science-y enough in order to use Riley's notes to bring back Rosco).
    Also I think that Owen might have failed with this Scout. She's probably decommissioned/dead. Could you check if the Scout that you used ended up in the spawn room in the first game? it might confirm this.

    -It’s also not clear exactly who set the fire. Rachel, Riley, Owen, they could have all been candidates.

    I'm still kinda confused. At what point did original Owen die? And why did they try to turn him into a puppet. Also does that mean that Owen is still alive just being moved into new hosts every now and then.

    • @pokerface4396
      @pokerface4396 Před rokem +25

      The original Owen died as soon as he said "I'm ready." I think the puppets were keeping his alive yet unconscious body somewhere while migrating his mind between different hosts -- they only disposed of it after getting what they wanted. It's unclear when he switched bodies for the first time because we see the game from Owen's POV, and his memories aren't intact. He is even unaware he is in a female body. So, it's up for speculation. I have several theories:
      a) Owen fell into Mortimer's clutches from the moment he blacked out, and we can't really trust anything Owen sees after he wakes up. It's quite possible that Mortimer used him to get full control over the studio, imprison staff members, and animate other puppets, and only then did he start working on getting Owen to accept them. That explains why there was no noise about staff members going missing and how puppets managed to build intricate obstacle courses across the studio with no one noticing. The puppets probably could use host voices and make them answer phone calls to uplift the "nothing's going on" air around the studio to the outside world. That's why nobody came in to check. Also, Rachel managed to cancel the show, so everybody assumed that studio had closed down already.
      b) Owen agreed to surrender the pages in exchange for Harper --- there wasn't any final challenge. He led Harper to safety but refused to go with her, feeling guilty about his actions. He probably also was the one who tried to burn the studio down, intending to kill puppets, free the souls of their victims and sacrifice himself as well. But his plan partially failed as Mortimer, and the gang survived and probably managed to pull his mind from his body and transfer it to another host, so they could force him to accept them. That's when the repetitive cycle with mixed or false memories started --- Riley mentioned changing variables until Owen cracks, so we can't be sure about the chronological order of events.
      c) There was the final challenge, but Mortimer was convinced that Owen would choose them over Harper by telling her the truth about Owen and his spells. It always worked --- people disappoint Owen, Owen hates them, and confides in his puppets. But Owen didn't care about Harper being angry with him, he wanted her out of harm's way, and Harper still felt sorry for him. So, Mortimer pretended he is letting them go, only to sic Handeemen on them, so Owen stayed behind to buy Harper some time and probably decided to go down with the ship, setting everything on fire (there is a reason why the fire happened shortly after the Dream Warriors premiere).

    The puppet rebellion began all because Nick knack had a crush on Riley (which is kinda weird cause I swear I heard Owen say she was to be his sister/have a sisterly role).
    Seriously He makes a sketch. Daisy finds it and thoughtlessly hangs it up like a proud mom hanging your art on the fridge. When he finds out he purposefully makes her go into danger mode to black out and forget. In fact he does it multiple times to both forget and get her put down to hide his secret as only she knows.
    Riley realizes Daisy blacks out during these rages and figures out who is provoking her. She then logically (and out of a bit of kindness) realizes rather than walking on eggshells with Daisy it's better if she knew how to control it and remain conscious.
    Morty continues to act like a tyrant and demands Riley destroy her Rosco, her literal pet project because he wants Owen to accept them (out of need for survival and perhaps reflecting Owens own parental issues) which breaks her. Daisy noticed during one experiment and suggests Riley take over as leader.
    Riley gathers supporters and approaches Nick who thinks she's confessing love to him. Morty noticed Nick is happy and gets him to tell him why he's happy tipping him off to it. So he sees value in Rosco for 2 reasons: a guard dog to protect himself and a means to control the one puppet who could actually overthrow him. With Rosco and now Riley at his side the rebellion is over.
    I don't think he destroys all of the puppets. Maybe a few of the lessers to use them as an example but not the main cast because he's might need them in the same way Owen needed them. Plus we see Kathy at the tea party (I guess she's Mortimer secretary. And idk why but I love her as a side character). And Nick on the sound stage. If Daisy is still around maybe she's locked away in a cafeteria or without a host given what she can do with a danger mode she can control.

    Something worth noting for your next vid. in the tapes, Owen describes Mortimer as the "father figure" of the puppets. He also describes a less than ideal relationship with his own father. put these two thoughts together, and you have at least a partial explanation for why Mortimer treats the other puppets the way he does.

  • @clawz161
    @clawz161 Před rokem +29

    When I was watching your playthrough I thought the puppets were similar to what happened in 9. Where the scientist put his traits into the dolls, splitting his soul into 9 pieces, and ending on the last one which killed him, which finally put an end to his worst creation.
    But now I don't think that at all. Now I think that due to owens one track mindedness and obsessiveness he created these puppets the way they are.
    Mortimer the strong leader, Riley the fearless woman obsessed with ANYTHING science, nick the drama nut, Daisy danger the split personality baker. These are all the characters he created, but turned up to eleven.
    And last but not least scout. The strong willed sassy friend.
    The magic book isn't a demon prison, or a way to split one's soul. It's simple and as old as time. It's a monkey's paw. "Be careful what you wish for"
    Owen wanted his characters in real life. He got them. But they were more horrifying than he could possibly imagine.

    • @pokerface4396
      @pokerface4396 Před rokem +7

      I think the reason why the puppets turned out that way was Owen's loneliness and bitterness. He craved friendship and family comfort, but he had no idea how either of them should look, act or feel like.
      Moreover, he was still a child in an adult body -- he mentioned not having any toys in his childhood, so for him, his puppets were the compensation for that lackluster and painful period. He even got jealous when others tried playing with his toys "the wrong way", constantly criticizing actors and cutting them out of episodes to do everything himself. Jake and the others did their job great; it was simply Owen not wanting to share his favorite toys with anyone. It was as if all those people didn't *deserve* to play with his toys. He didn't make them for these people. Also explains why Owen decided to milk his TA for money during one of the episodes --- for any mature showrunner trying to influence kids to donate to the show is manipulative and wrong. But Owen didn't see anything wrong about it -- he only cared about being able to play with his puppets more freely, probably express his frustrations and criticism without script writers censoring him, etc. I.e., he wanted to be left alone with his puppets and show all those stupid, criticizing, and bothersome people how good they were. And his wish came true in the worst way possible.
      With Scout, however, he got some perspective and based a character not off himself or his expectations from people but off a real person with her quirks, flaws, and good sides. Scout didn't reflect his personality or his perception of the world. She was a tribute to a friend, who can call him out when he is wrong, but still would be there for him.

    I don't know if I'd say that Owen accepted the puppets. He accepted that they were from him and his own darkness corrupted them, and in the end chose to face them rather then run away, but I don't think he 'chose' them over humanity. They want him to side with them, which he wouldn't. He wants to stop them.

    I think it's really interesting if we think of the spell as a mirror, because if you really think about it, Owen built all the puppets, but technically, only used the spell on Mortimer and Scout. Technically, Mortimer used the spell to bring the other three to life while in control of Owen. So that makes me ask the question, are Riley, Nick, and Daisy kind of a mirror of Mortimer more than Owen - like, that's why they all follow Mortimer and are so violent and nasty, as well as having their reflections of Owen's personality over all.
    Mortimer is running the show, but also is typically alone. In the security tapes, you can hear the other three interacting and having their own 'lives'/activities outside of Mortimer's obsessive game.

    So i'm wondering if Owen has become a puppet, Mortimer wanted him to join them and wanted him to accept them, we see him in the first game and we assume he's dead, but we also learn in this game that unless a puppet is being worn by someone they can't do anything, plus during one of those picture puzzles we see a picture of owen after he was made into a puppet, and his eye sockets have a small white light in them in the picture.
    If Mortimer did actually have him turned into a puppet then he might still be alive in the same way the other puppets are, and if thats the case we might actually see him in one of the next games as i'm assuming there will be more since there are still unanswered questions.

    I think that in the original game, the reason we didn't see Daisy or much of Nick Nack might be bcs of them being either punished for betraying Mortimer or they could be currently bussiing Owen's newest host, I think that the consciousness is still somewhere, I think that the corpse of Owen's body is just there bcs Mortimer wanted to keep his fathers first body at least a little intact even with the consciousness being is someone else. That's just my theory tho, a GAME theory (in which the theory is dumb but still)

We see evidence with the book dealer sleep walking while possibly being under Ennioct’s control. Plus until the other puppets Mortimer seems more vile than the rest. My theory is that Ennioct is in the book. The spell mirrored both Owen and Ennioct into Mortimer, while the other puppets possibly only mirror Owen.

    Mini theory:
    Why is Mortimer's voice different in the original Hello Puppets?
    I was thinking because Owen is very similar to Mortimer and would probably go on to be used as a human battery by him, maybe Owen went on to influence Mortimer, like half possession or something. It would explain why his voice changes as well as his actions (letting Scout and the host go, helping them progress, ect) in the original.
    Just a thought.

    Love that they had the actresses for Scout and Harper both share similar cadence and tone cuz all through the game I was like “this is scout……but not quite.” Scout is simply based on the person who brought out the good in Owen, allowing him to mirror that into an ally for the future protagonist, even though he doesn’t know if they’ll ever come or who they’ll be.
