Super Enduro Or Freeride? | What Exactly Is The New Nukeproof Giga For?
Vložit

- Super Enduro... Not a new term in the mountain biking world, but a category of bikes that we've not seen too much of recently! The new Nukeproof Giga fits this category, a big beast of a bike intended for having fun on rowdy trails and at bike parks... but aren't freeride bikes intended for just that too? Neil and Blake dig into what sets this new bike aside, and how its carving it's own niche.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how good the editor/producer is at choosing stock music tracks?
Nick this praise is aimed at you. Brill son.
You can tell Neil isn’t a freerider from his moving suspension
Nope. Neil's a speed demon.
czcams.com/video/hpoUobCOBWQ/video.html
Ik
Its for the people who can afford the giga 😆. Please make more hardtail videos GMBN for life
Yes!
Just upgrade to FS and you won't need hardtail videos anymore
@@breakawayadv8626 czcams.com/video/hpoUobCOBWQ/video.html
It looks sick and is probably a bunch of fun. That's all that matters!!
Nope! what if it's uncomfy? what if its's geo is so far away from what you are used to. lots to know!
well if it’s uncomfortable then it wouldn’t be fun now would it?
I'm saving money for the Tera
Everybody is talking about head tube angels. When we talk about playfullness, the chainstay length matters much more.
Practically a downhill bike that can pedal uphill
That was a very well put together vid! Really good!
The old SX Trail spesh had it nailed. 26 "wheels the opening seen of Roam with the claw. pure freeride.
super professional edit and setting, deep knowledge from the moderator, great music and kamera work but still true to the good ol pro stick.
keepin it real
What trousers are you wearing and what Bike Park are you at?
Thanks for the video! Awesome, interesting stuff on this channel.
Super sick bike, super sick video!!
Nice one Neil, 👌🏻
Thank you for the freeride vs enduro awareness! People keep referring to my bike as a enduro when it’s actually a freeride bike!
Great video guys and I’d like to see who’s faster Rich, Neil or Blake
I assume it would be Neil as he managed to beat tahnee seagrave 😂
It won't be Rich.
@@frankiemazzei8882 czcams.com/video/hpoUobCOBWQ/video.html
@@frankiemazzei8882 of course. Tahnee is not #1 now but when Neil joined the EWS in Finale Ligure, he was faster than the fastest female of course - Cécile Ravanel who won almost all races that year. But among the elite male? I don’t know...
@@frankiemazzei8882 and he used to be a pro enduro rider so that explain everything
Some years ago, I would have characterised a freeride bike a downhill bike with single crown fork. Definitely coil shock and most likely no chance of fitting a seatpost long enough to pedal up a mountain. Superenduro initially meant big travel but most likely air shock. The kind of bike for bike mountaineering. But with different wheel sizes and dropper post, categories have shifted and partly merged.
Yes the Specialized Status and Trek Scratch were staple freeride bikes around 2011
The enduro race world has mostly shifted to Coil so they are likely using the exact same suspension components as freeride bikes.
@@mrvwbug4423 Yes, I think Enduro racing made a fundamental change. When I built my Liteville 601 in 2013, it was the first bike that I remember marketed as „superenduro“ and the main use case was going down the most technical trails but not fast. In that year, the EWS just started and brought the speed into the enduro category. So it‘s not surprising that the long and slack trend started out at approx. the same time.
Super Nice! Wish it came in more color options...
can't wait for the new Tera and Peta
Hehe after gravel bikes which had been there for decades already and down country now super enduro? What will the marketing create next? cross dirt? uphill racing? horizontal downhill?
I´d say it´s just a nice mtb... Crazy world :D Have a good weekend everyone!
Omg horizontal downhill🤣🤣🤣
uphill downhill going on next!
cross downhill
Imagine having a new mega and giga in the same colour🤤🤤🤤😍😍
My 2008 Kona Stinky does that too🙃
Not the bike but the rider... my 2010 Specialized Big Hit does that aswell.
Stinkys are sick I think they should make like a modern stinky in a year or 2
@@emmetfoster7430 for real! I wished they brought back some of the old bikes that everyone loved, like, very similar frames on newer components.
My 09 northshore does it aswell 😁
RS Totem for the win 👌🏻
What about the fact that it's single pivot compared to the mega which is Horst I believe. How do they differ?
I am 5'8 (172.5cm) and looking to buy a long travel enduro mostly for freeride but also a bit of DH (as it would be my only bike w/ full suspension). I usually fall between sizes S and M, what Reach size would you recommend? Maybe also worth mentioning that I am quite light (62kg) so usually I feel more confortable doing manual, bunny hop or jumping in general on a smaller bike (BMX and dirt bike background). Asking because unfortunatelly I dont have a chance to demo anything at the moment. Thanks a lot!
The geometry on this one seems so spot on, sucks there are not too many dealers in the USA for them. Those that do say they only order them and never stock them for demos. 😞
Loving the video’s 🤙
Dify Bike Park is calling, Neil!
27.5 are smaller wheels now. That's funny.
Smaller comparing to 29ers.
i run 26 still
"freeride" cannot characterize any type of bike because freeride is what you make of it. Any bike can be a freeride bike.
You ride this bike like I’ve never seen you shred before!
GT had the sanction, which was 170mm big hitter endurao bike, 5 years ago. It went down better than up, but would do both. That bikes taken everything Ive thrown at it, including 2 trips to Colorado / Moab, Whole enchilada captain ahad, dakota ridge last year........and being razzed up and down my local trails in the lakes for the last couple of years. Been looking for a potential candidate to replace that with and I think I've now found it.
Would you choose either the giga base model or the orbea rallon 2021 base model?
This soundtrack is everywhere nowadays. From gran turismo 7 trailer to Toyota supra commercial.
63.5 deg head angle, 72 deg seat tube angle, can enjoy climbing before reach downhill sector?
That's the first time I've seen somebody send that bunker drop into the car park below at Pedal! Basically built to send GBU constantly and the jib line on the ridge
Where is this mate? Looks decent
@@mattwatterson8985 Pedalabikeaway in the Forest of Dean AKA Forest of Dean Cycle Centre. Forestry have since closed that drop though.
I like the kickstand.
Kinda looks like what GT did with the GT Saction with a single pivot design taken from the DH GT Fury turning it into an Eduro.
Is a more affordable Aluminium version coming.
Bike for bikeparks without lift access :) 180+- mm travel, 12x drivetrain so that you can smash bikeparks and get back up
Would love to see this side by side with the canyons torque!
mega will always get my vote, untill the torque add a place to put a bottle
Those edits in the beginning
If it rides anything like my mega v4, its an amazing bike😅😍
The definition of " i don't need it but i want it!"
I get the feeling the market is going to consolidate at some point in the near future.
There are so many different types of bikes now and I'm not sure if it can continue like that.
The bike is Just amazing !!!
What track was that before gbu?
I really wanna see Blake on this beast
i would just use my trusty old hardtail
i have a super enduro canyon torque. it’s pretty tight
Wish had one 🥺
so if i understand this right , most bikes in the industry are designed for a race purpose eg : xc/dh/enduro but bikes like Trail and freeride is not built for races ?
I will get a couple then ,sure it’s a cheap option 🤣😂
Got 1 bike that’s made out of girders & wood 🪵
👌wow very nice ride👍
So what I really need to know is will it break if I put a dh fork on it? I’m 100kg and I can make a fork flex pretty hard with a good stoppie.
my dad races with one on his Nukeproof Giga and hes 106kgs and its been good
How can I get one of those GMBN jackets?
You mention Horst link around 4:03, but looks like a linkage driven single pivot to me
No horst link on this bike! Linkage driven single pivot indeed. Leverage curves look pretty good.
Mega is horst, giga is link driven single pivot
From the people who mock downcountry as a term, bringing you super enduro 😂
Indeed. Shouldn't it be Gigaenduro by the way?
Nothing new, mondraker has marketed super enduro for years...
Ok, now I'm torn between this and the Propain Spindrift, both 180 mm freeride bikes. For the time being however, the Spindrift is taking the lead just because it has a more affordable aluminium version.
Where are these made? Lets see a race between them all
Both bikes are awesome! Where are these trails? Forrest of Dean?
Yup
I know you guys are fortunate to work with MTB brands and one of the perks are getting sponsored bikes. My question is what do you do with your old bikes you have especially if the same brand replaces them with new ones
A lot of people who are sponsored like that return their bikes to the manufacture at the end of the year
@@peterlang5047 I would have thought they get the bikes for free and to keep until the next version comes along and replaces the old ones
Really nice the new Santa Proof! xD
Ha, ha, yeah it looks like a Santa Cruz no doubt. #copy
Gravel
Cross Country
Down Country
Trail
Enduro
Super Enduro
Freeride
Downhill
I've probably missed some 😂
I can see the differences but there is too many categories now and the lines are becoming blurred between the categories. It's no wonder new riders get confused over what bike to pick.
The new giga is beautiful though.
I mean it’s important to have categories so you can tell what type of bike a bike is
Is there an alloy version?
Anybody know where I can order that saddle for my bike build Can’t find it anywhere??
Big logo in the side is for sponsored riders only
Nice!
180mm travel bike is way overkill for that jump line ! Smooth enough for a rigid BMX !
I love my 2017 mega but in the future I'll replace it with another one. I'd be overbiked with the giga and I already have a dh bike, so it's pointless to me
I have my mega V4 for sale now if you'd be interested! Medium, 27.5, 2021 RS spec!
Kona Stinky was the first bike I reckon could smash big hits and pedal all day.....
It's not that simple to move the switch tho is it!!!! I have a giga my brother has one and the bloke who put my bike together in shop has one and we all have same issue! The switch dunt wana budge at all its so stiff!!
song at 0:50?
this is my dream bike. I would do anything to have it.
love these videos soooooo good.
My new dream bike
Can you do a video on getting your first full suspension bike when your on a budget of £1500 that would be greatly appreciated I love your content keep it up
I think you should buy used, or if you want a warranty buy a new frame and build it up with used parts. That’s what I did and I ended up with a very solid bike for $2 grand
@@peterlang5047 Thanks man
Given the intended use, here comes the ultimate question. Can the Giga be run as a mullet?
Yes, with the 29er you can swap our the rear for a 27.5 according to some other reviews I’ve seen
Abit like yt capra they call them enduro but I'd say more super enduro/freeride with 27.5 being 180/180 and 29er being 170/170
Any help from anyone? I am recovering from major surgery that has left me without abdominal muscles. There is no such thing as an abdomen protector that I can see that would help. I need something that hold me together so my guts don't fall out and something to protect against impact. I am currently considering a Leatt 3df kidney belt worn at the front rather than at the back. this will be uncomfortable and put unnecessary pressure on my kidneys. Any ideas?
What are you talking about "doesn't weigh a ton like the oldschool freeride bikes"? This thing is only half a water bottle lighter than my 2005 Kona Stinky, which was renowned for being a heavy beast.
When does Blake get one??
If i were to choose nukeproof giga or airdrop edit v4? I'll choose airdrop edit v4.i mean look at the geometry man,!
Which trail is Neil at?
What size is that giga?
Is it dual crown fork compatible?
Yes
This bike is a Single Pivot Linkage Driven Correct me if i'm wrong?
You're not wrong. Horseshoe linkage driven? not sure if that exists. Gotta ask @Trail POV
Right, it has nothing to do with a Horst link
time to save some money to upgrade the fork...
Gee...i best upgrade to a super enduro. ..wow and at 15 kg im gunna need to grow some muscles to lift it into the car...Amazingly it pedals more efficiently than there last bike...no limits to where this thing will go...just hang on and point. ....However i think i will hang on to my. $$$$$$🖐
I'm probably gonna say the most trivial thing about it - I love the fact that it comes with a chain guide, because NO new bikes ever seem to come with them anymore...
YT
I just love the fact that this stands on 166/0 likes/dislikes
Pretty sure that’s my new bike!
wish I could afford this bike :(
So the Nukeproof mega is as capable as never before, i dont see a gap to fill to a downhill bike.
Take me back to when it was xc, DH and free ride. Slap some triple clamp DH forks on a GT chucker or big hit and send it off the stupidest thing you can think of.
Freeride bikes are dead (with the norco shore exception). Enduro/"Superenduro" are the new freeride bikes in comparison, but more capable than before.
And, in adittion, in new freeride events most people use DH bikes so the "freeride" as we knew in the past is almost dead. Sorry about my basic English 😂
The nukeproof giga 290 is the sickest bike ever. wish i had the money to buy it😒
why not just use a proper DH bike for the lift assisted enduro races?
Can you buy one
is it just a coincidence that its mega like megabyte and giga which is a bigger bike and like gigabyte
Blake and Neil are like Han Solo and Luke Skywalker
Blake should have been the freerider
Sam Hill wins three world titles on a Mega with flats but suddenly the local bros are woefully under-biked on their Megas because, well, Giga?!
Are bike reveals/reviews relevant anymore considering we cant get our hands on one?
