  • This is my first semester as a graduate student in the Center for Water Resources and the Environment (CWE) at the University of New Mexico. I give you a look into what a day in my life looks like while still having classes mostly online. I also get into the topic of atmospheric water capture which is what I am researching as part of my masters thesis. If you have any questions regarding civil, environmental, or water resources engineering comment down below! Thank you so much for watching :)

    So far, is grad schools easier or harder than undergrad? I was wondering how the clases were and if what you learn in undergrad is helpful or if a lot of math is involved on assignments and tests?
    Also I am doing a B.S. in EnvE Engr. so would that better prepare me for EWRE or should I have done the CIVE track?

    • @nataliegayoso
      @nataliegayoso  Před 2 lety

      Hi there, in my opinion I would say grad classes are easier then undergrad. I have less tests but more presentations. Less assignments but more class participation and group projects. However if you do research, like I am that can be “harder” in some ways because you are having to do a lot of writing and experiments and sometimes things don’t always work out how you would expect so it’s a lot of trial and error.
      I would say the things I learned in undergrad are really helpful and your background in Environmental Eng is a great foundation for EWRE!

    Hi girl! I want to have a specialization in renewable energy and I also want to do an undergraduate program in environmental engineering. Is it possible? Because I heard that environmental engineering is more about water or sanitary industry and does not have so much focus in the energy side. Can you tell me if it's right?

    • @nataliegayoso
      @nataliegayoso  Před 2 lety +4

      Hey there, renewable energy and environmental engineering definitely go hand in hand, so yes you can do it! I’m actually doing that right now for my internship. I feel like environmental engineering is such a diverse degree where you can get so many different type of jobs and working w renewables is definitely one of them!

      Yes I do. My personal computer is a Mac and the windows laptop is provided to me by my university. I use the windows when I need to use specific software like ArcGIS or MatLab and my Mac for everything else!

    What kind of jobs you can get after completing water resource engineering

    • @nataliegayoso
      @nataliegayoso  Před 2 lety +1

      This is a great question! Water resource engineers can do a lot of different things, same with environmental engineers. On a typical day you might work on establishing sustainable use of resources by conserving water, building dams and conveying water to users. Designs water or wastewater treatment plants for cities or industries. Design and implement river, lake, and stormwater quality sampling and analysis programs. Design and manage programs to clean up polluted land and water. Work with private companies, governmental agencies, and public organizations to assure environmentally responsible development of new projects. Develop recycling programs to maximizer reuse of wastewater and solid wastes. Develop long-term management plans for water, air and land resources. Present environmental solutions at public meetings. And this list continues... but these are just some things that I have either seen colleagues work on, I have done, or have read about. Hope this helps!
