Always a privilege to see footage of the great Kevin Beattie who was still a teenager at this time. What a player he was
Thank God for posting these matches.Real football. Can watch these all day.zThank you.
So refreshing to watch football before it was taken over.
Presume you didn't have Sky that is, if you had Sky then you are responsible too.
i cant even watch footy nowadays. i despise it. i am so gutted, i find myself scouring youtube for proper football matches and teams like these.
Was the standard higher then?
All the backpassing and offside traps.
Why?
The *CRYSTAL PALACE football club!* ❤
Mighty Leeds United 💙💛
Loved this one - Allison, Clough & Charlton all great football men.
Big Mal looking a cool dude in the studio, Big Jack's outfit looking like a visit to the charity shop. Real footy at its nadir in the 70s. All I needed was the break adverts & I'd be in Heaven.
Don't you mean zenith?

If this game was september 1973 i was in the churchmans end south stand at ipswich with my uncle i was about nine at the time 😊
It looks like quite a few United fans were in that end? Not much celebrating when Ipswich scored, but it could just be the picture quality
I was living in Kings Lynn at the time, working away from home, Ipswich's game was Anglia TV's main match. United were lucky it was only 2 - 1 at the finish, I think Trevor Anderson''s goal was the only one he ever scored for United. He made only a few appearances for the first team. It looks like the ref was Gordon Hill (same name as the player who joined United in 1975), he was one of the better refs of the time.
Trevor Anderson scored a goal at Elland Road on 18 April 1973.
Temperature in the 80’s as far back as September ‘73. I thought global warming didn’t start until a few years ago.
I remember ‘73 being a good summer. I was watching football for real in ‘75 and ‘76 and the early games were gaspers. 90F both years in August.
You sound hilarious.
@@paulhollis887975-77 were all amazing, proper summers.
11 months later, the corresponding fixture was the only win for Leeds United under Brian Clough 's management.
eff clough
Queen of the combovers? RIP big Jack
Digging big Jack's outfit.
Had to pause the video straight away to comment. Why? The announcer mentioned 18-year-old Keith Walley from Weymouth. I'm actually a fan of Weymouth FC, so I had to look up Walley.
Not much of a career. Only 7 appearances with CP that season. Had 7 appearances with Weymouth the next season. Walley then moved on to Chelmsford for the '75-76 season, making just 5 appearances. Then he doesn't make another senior appearance until resurfacing with the lower tier ASL in 1978, with the Southern California Lazers. Walley made almost as many appearances that season (23), as he did in his entire career. He bounced around in the US ending his career with the Hartford Hellions in the Major Indoor Soccer League. Only 63 Senior League appearances in his career and 17 goals - 8 of which came in that one season with the Lazers.
Funny how they mentioned Keith Walley being a Striker - despite wearing #8 in this CP game, and him playing midfield most of his professional career. Interesting to see this young prospects - with high "potential" - and see what actually happened in their careers.
This CP jersey looks much nicer than their current kit.
Very interesting info and great points
A proper Palace kit that but prefer all white with the red/blue sash.
As for Weymouth I think I know only a few things (I lived in Bournemouth for a while).
Ian Ridley was chairman,ex-Pompey player (and short term manager) Steve Claridge did the same for Weymouth,Graham Roberts (ex-Spurs and Rangers) played for them(?) and Weymouth wear claret and blue.
Forgive me if any of that is wrong.😢
@@alanprior7650 Actually, I'm American, but became a fan of Weymouth some 10+ years ago via Football Manager. Listen to their games via internet radio, subscribe to all their social media outlets, and hope to one day see a game at Bob Lucas Stadium.
For a long time, Weymouth has had an affiliation with Bournemouth - making Bournemouth an easy team for me to cheer for in the Premier League.
Steve Claridge had 3 stints with Weymouth as a player (158 games total) and one season as their manager. (He was briefly with Crystal Palace as well, in 1988)
Yes, Weymouth wear Claret and Blue, as an homage to Aston Villa
I was at school with Stuart Boam
Proper tune that.
haha love the tactics of the era .. Hoof the ball up the pitch at every chance .. Get ball ..one touch ..hoof it up the pitch .. sheesh
Jackie, Jackie Charlton!
The late great John Jackson.
42:01 we. big jack!
too funny - the two Middlesborough defenders who started fighting with one another both end up scoring own goals (one's a deflection, but still).
I was at that Leeds/Birmingham game. How embarassing the old Scratching Shed looks compared to the Gelderd End.
Brian Moore almost crying because a southern team was being beaten, he was so so biased
Clough was a legend...but he didn't half speak a load of crap sometimes!
clough was a bellend ponce.
Jeez.those balls really where shite ,,, what were they ? .. round rocks painted white ..
They were pretty decent, not like the “old” ones with the laces that could cut your head open or knock you out😂 😂 The ball today seems to be very lightweight, but that’s just my view.
Sweltering in England? Surely Brian was jesting 😂
yeahhhh... make the pitch narrower mate thatll do it... LOL why not even put the players on stilts or stack heels hahahaah!!!!
Allison was not a good manager
C'mon, he rebuilt that Palace team from the Third Division & he certainly had success at Man City. He was a big plus in the game, on TV & he knew his pitches!
Dirty Leeds managed by the cheat GHD
Sour eggs, great team of all time & a great manager. All the footballers of that time said Leeds was the best team to play against, greatest club was Liverpool & they had great team after great team. Football was a hard game then & preferable to today's money obsessed mish mash of players that wouldn't last five minutes in 1973.

GHD who's that?
shut it you melt. LEEDS FOREVER!
