I was at that game in the Main stand My dad had two season tickets. That Birmingham team was the best of my 63 years of life very enjoyable to watch. Bob Latchfords brother was the Blues Goalkeeper Dave Latchford (Their other brother was the first team Goalkeeper at West Bromwich Albion). Two British Transfer record players in that Blues team Bob Latchford to Everton then Trevor Francis to Nottingham Forest. Both broke my heart as a fan.

When there was no VAR and no passing around at the back for the sake of it. I find a lot of Premier league games boring. As for all the useless stats we get today. The most important one is the score. The Big Match was a must watch on Sunday afternoon after mums roast dinner. Happy days.

    A little Kitwatch from me:
    - Although there was no colour clash, it seemed that Leeds United preferred to wear their all-yellow away kit for the Chelsea game. And why not, given their recently minted Admiral deal?
    - I can't help but notice, though, that Leeds' shorts looked to me like they had the Umbro diamonds on them?
    - Birmingham City's famous penguin kit, exhibited brilliantly by Trevor Francis, Kenny Burns, and Bob Latchford.
    - I would have thought West Ham would have changed their shorts and socks to their away colours, I reckon that's what the Villa would have done. And although he was on the losing side that day, it was good to see Bobby Gould do what good Coventry kids do; stick one past the Brummies. And that celebration was on the opening titles for the next season.
    - It must have been quite cold in December 1973, but one look at Sam Bartram's kit suggested he would have withstood an entire league season in Antarctica.
    - Man United and my Coventry City rocking their classic early 70's looks. I think they were both supplied by Umbro at the time, the Admiral deals a couple of seasons off.

@@darrenwilson99 Quite correct. Players in those days were not fit or professional enough - always getting hamstring and groan strains. If you look at them, especially at Wembley they were aways 'blowing.' Trevor Brooking who was one of our best players always looked knackered and gasping.
Anyone seriously interested in 70's football should read ‘Soccer Coaching: The European Way.’ Published in 1980. It will explain why England was so far behind the continent and failed so often.
