Moore was such a cultured man. None of this day can compare.
That's right!
He was. Greatly missed.
What a joy to watch a game with no interference from technology or rolling around sissies. An absolute pleasure.
Exactly was I was thinking. Lorimer gets properly smacked in the moosh, never mind. Carry on.
I agree
This is when football belonged to the fans.
Best sports theme tune ever.
Brian Moore what a gentleman and presenter and the Old Bridge happy days
The sound of those horns playing for every young kid back then was a symphony of sporting bliss
Was at the Birmingham vs West Ham match standing in The Kop.
RIP Chris Garland in the last couple of weeks.
Just how good a talker is Big Mal. He was an exceptional coach.
RIP Trevor Francis. Along with Bob Latchford and Kenny Burns, what a forward lineup Birmingham had then!
I was at that game in the Main stand My dad had two season tickets. That Birmingham team was the best of my 63 years of life very enjoyable to watch. Bob Latchfords brother was the Blues Goalkeeper Dave Latchford (Their other brother was the first team Goalkeeper at West Bromwich Albion). Two British Transfer record players in that Blues team Bob Latchford to Everton then Trevor Francis to Nottingham Forest. Both broke my heart as a fan.
@@neilpountney9414 I watched the Latchford brothers (Dave and Peter) playing on a few occasions in the late 70’s at Motherwell v Celtic games. Possibly in opposition just once though.
Edit, they faced each other 3 times at start of 78/79 season.
@@stevenwilson1816 That is awesome I totally forgot all about that fact. Thanks :)
What about Bob Hatton
Bob Hatton unsung hero
My mate Gary Locke playing in this game..only 19 years old
Odd, Brian Moore says Leeds have 5 first team players missing, but if you scan the team names, everyone of them are top names from recent years. Incredible team. Right Chelsea, grudge time, we don't forget..
When there was no VAR and no passing around at the back for the sake of it. I find a lot of Premier league games boring. As for all the useless stats we get today. The most important one is the score. The Big Match was a must watch on Sunday afternoon after mums roast dinner. Happy days.
are you a WBA fan?
@@kailashpatel1706 ha! No. I'm 64. Followed Manchester United since I was 8
@@garyowens1517 At least you grasped the reference...!..Agree about Stats, some stats showed Saka had a good game against Denmark the other day...I know what I see and draw a reasonable conclusion from my own analysis, though he tried very hard as always, the Danish defence, like the Serbian backline marshalled him easily..
Brian Moore had the greatest football commentor's voice ever. Then again I don't think even he could better the way Kenneth Wolstenhome said those famous words in 1966!
I remember watching this.I liked Steve Kember because he played for my local club Crystal Palace.Happy days.
Thank you so much for posting this. Takes me instantly back to watching with my lovely late dad. Wonderful. In the opening credits between 0:44 and 0:48 that must be Arsenal v Spurs. Bob Wilson making the save?
more leeds games please , the greatest team of early seventies .
Late 60s too.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Liverpool were look at the facts.
“Bites Yer Legs”?
“Crapped His Pants” when Osgood turned round and had a go back😂😂
Osgood seemed to love the wind-up,lol.
The little wooden dining chairs for the bench. Cracks me up.
A little Kitwatch from me:
- Although there was no colour clash, it seemed that Leeds United preferred to wear their all-yellow away kit for the Chelsea game. And why not, given their recently minted Admiral deal?
- I can't help but notice, though, that Leeds' shorts looked to me like they had the Umbro diamonds on them?
- Birmingham City's famous penguin kit, exhibited brilliantly by Trevor Francis, Kenny Burns, and Bob Latchford.
- I would have thought West Ham would have changed their shorts and socks to their away colours, I reckon that's what the Villa would have done. And although he was on the losing side that day, it was good to see Bobby Gould do what good Coventry kids do; stick one past the Brummies. And that celebration was on the opening titles for the next season.
- It must have been quite cold in December 1973, but one look at Sam Bartram's kit suggested he would have withstood an entire league season in Antarctica.
- Man United and my Coventry City rocking their classic early 70's looks. I think they were both supplied by Umbro at the time, the Admiral deals a couple of seasons off.
If any match-up screams early 70s it was Chelsea v Leeds United.
Another give away (at any ground,English or Scottish games) the sky blue invalid cars!
I think George Bests goal against Coventry was the last he scored for Man Utd.
Sinstadt at his scintillating worst.
“Now was that in? Looked to me as though Stepney pulled it back from over the line”…except Stepney dived the wrong way, never touched it and the ball was still nestled in the other corner 😂
Looking back on it now from 50 odd years later it's amazing how bad some of the commentators were then - always getting players names wrong etc, but as a child you never noticed it. Was it perhaps the early onset of dementia for some of them?
Man City could never play Pep's ticky tacka on that pitch with those heavier lo-tech balls... great days...
14.40 Osgood kicking out at Hunter would be instant red now...
What was the origin of the pre match one hand salute by the Leeds Utd team during the Don Revie era?
Copying Real Madrid?
How they’ve ruined football, a good English game between 2 English teams and 2 English managers.
c'mon blues
The keepers are so small
Of course that first Leeds goal would be disallowed as a foul on the keeper these days. Overprotected keepers...
Sheffield wed were even shite then
14:30.
Beautiful kits , no sponsors , British players ...sigh.
World class football played by players who drank, smoked and enjoyed to party. Just goes to prove todays medical science has got it all wrong.
Utter rubbish. Modern footballers would destroy those players with their fitness levels alone. Can you point me to the evidence that says smoking and drinking is good for you.
@@darrenwilson99 Quite correct. Players in those days were not fit or professional enough - always getting hamstring and groan strains. If you look at them, especially at Wembley they were aways 'blowing.' Trevor Brooking who was one of our best players always looked knackered and gasping.
Anyone seriously interested in 70's football should read ‘Soccer Coaching: The European Way.’ Published in 1980. It will explain why England was so far behind the continent and failed so often.
i hate chelsea so much. i love seeing them destroyed.
Don't be a hater be a lover❤
@@matthewcoombs3282and I loathe Leeds. The dirtiest team around and crook of a Manager
@@matthewcoombs3282 CFC will always have more class than Leeds. It was of the reasons they were put on this Earth.
We hate you so much too. Enjoy the championship next season!
Dirty Leeds!😂
Noddy northern clowns!🤡
