  • Girls have been banned from secondary education for over 1 year in Afghanistan, the only country in the world where girls are deprived of this fundamental right.
Last week, Georgetown student Alara Karahan attended a side-event at the UN General Assembly co-hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security on the role of Feminist Foreign Policy Champions in securing women’s and girls’ rights in Afghanistan together with Malala, The Malala Fund and the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the UN. This discussion for diplomats and Afghan women focused on what will work to get Afghan girls back in school. We all have a responsibility to #LetAfghanGirlsLearn.
