  • Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton honored CNN's Chief International Anchor Christiane Amanpour and women peacebuilders Alaa Salah (Sudan), Muna Luqman (Yemen) and Ghalia Alrahhal (Syria) at the annual Hillary Rodham Clinton Awards hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) on October 5, 2023.
“We gather again this year to keep up the momentum, to recognize the roles that women play in peace and security and to keep urging that more governments and more multilateral institutions do more to include women’s voices,” said Secretary Clinton, who is the honorary founding chair of GIWPS.
CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour was honored for uplifting women’s voices and stories as a war correspondent from Afghanistan to Iran to Ukraine and beyond.
Alaa Salah - known as “Lady Liberty” of Sudan’s revolution in 2019 - was honored for her work advocating for social change and peacebuilding in Sudan.
Muna Luqman, founder and executive director of Food4Humanity, was honored for advancing women’s participation in peace processes in Yemen.
Ghalia Alrahhal, executive director of the Mazaya Organization for Women’s Development in Syria, was honored virtually for converting her beauty salon into a women’s center that provides education and first aid to women and children in Syria.
“As we celebrate these awardees and thank them for their courage, determination and faith in the power of women working together to build a better world, let’s recommit ourselves to do everything we can-right here in the United States-to make sure we never lose our freedoms and our democracy, our rights and opportunities," said Clinton.

I'm not impressed with Christiane Amanpour, She believes that her position as a Journalist, gives her the right to tell African Head's of State, how to run their own countries.
