Another Holland-Dozier-Holland tornado of tormented love. Martha and the Vandellas show us how satisfying tortured love can be as they team up with Motown's Funk Brothers. - Hudba
NOTHING today can beat what these Motown legends (performers, writers, musicians) did in the 60's. ❤🎼🎶
Well stated !
Yeeah....wth happened ?
absolutely. agree totally.
The drums intro, the background singers, that baritone sax, the piano, damn they killed it!
Don’t forget James Jamerson on bass - one of the all-time greats.
and lets not forget the snow chains that ,gave it that slamin beat. What a brilliant idea.
@@byronbolden6831 The snow chains? THAT I didn't know! Talk about "Off the CHAIN"! Thanks for the backstory..,
No problem Peter , Lamont Dozier, talk about it in book about Motown. It worked..LOL .. !!!!
word!
"Nowhere to Run" - my all-time favorite Motown tune. Everything on this record is right.
RIP "mosogotam" - died April 5, 2020. Our loss.., thanks for what you left us.
well said. I couldn't agree more!
That edition is perfect. Also, you may want to hear the edition extended by DJDiscoCat. You may wish to play both versions one after the other. They both sound great.
The Funk Brothers are the unsung heroes of 60's Motown soul.
I agree!!!!
@Chris Neilson Absolutely.
Definitely!!!
Absolutely!
One of the greatest songs ever recorded. Detroit is the Best!!
The bass and the piano working together cannot get better than this. Funk Brothers perfection...
After 50 YEARS they still COOK!! Motown is the best!!
The Funk Brothers. Absolute TALENT, the Heros of so much of the background....
Look at these beautiful women. Lovely ensembles, that would still be worn today ... skirts, heels. No tattoos. No excessive skin display. Class and decorum . It's sadly missing from what is called " Music " of today.
Well stated !!!! 👌🏾
@@sandrae4470 .....so kind, thank you !
I'm older, grew up with this sound, and so much of the INCREDIBLE Music, ...the Performers dressed. They had Presence. They rehearsed and rehearsed... for the Sound, the Moves, the Choreography. It's a treat when I see some ( a few ) groups bringing that back .
@@texasstardust6010 I'm older too, grew up at the time when music was genuine. Real singing, harmonizing, and classy moves.. There was no need to get naked because they had true talent.😉
Rap, Hip-Hop, and modern R&B singers do not have that genuine style. That is why they cannot "cut the mustard."
Unsung ladies of Soul of Motown.
That bassline is absolutely magnificent, timeless!
James Jamerson
Yeesss !! A lost art
Absolute classic
Born in '51, and I heard them all. They are the greatest Girl Group...ever!!!!
Couldn't agree more. Take them over any girl group
Don't get the Ronnetts.
Born in 51 too, so much great music, so lucky, never tire of listening.
Absolutely no doubt about it!
Born in 54, I was rocking with them too!
AHHHH Memories from Jr. High!! I always loved Motown then and NOW!!! Can't believe this was all over 50 years ago!!! How can this be??
It went by in a flash.... Enjoy.
Same here. Born in '51. Motown burst on the scene as I turned 13. Those glorious groups made my teenager years a long festival of song. Still loving it all at 72❤
This is sensational. No other track epitomises Motown more than this.
💃🏾 That is what I call music 🎶. My girls knew how to do it !! The Funk Bro's were no joke ☝🏾
AMEN
It is too bad The Funk Brothers were unappreciated. I learned about them in 2020 when I began to visit CZcams.
the funk brothers and Martha Reeves and her back up singers what a way to start the morning with finger poping soul!
They were called "The Vandellas"!!!!!!!
@@joeypalazzolo1507 Rosalind Ashford and Betty Kelly more specifically!
You could ask for nothing else better than soul music.
@@NOV123 Last week (3/26/2024) Martha was selected for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.........sadly they didn't include Betty or Rosalind
There will never be music this great agin, so sad.
so true, wish we could have it back, but thanks to oldies like this we will be alright!
i am sure glad i was a teenager back then ...when MOTOWN was kicking ass all over the radio
@@robert11751 ME TOO----the best times growing up in the motor city..
NEVER!!!!!
now just got push button to make a drum beat and wack ass singer
Brings back so many happy memories of my teenage years.
I love the drum intro too and also when the bass kicks in.Jack ashford plays lovely Percussion.
JUST WATED TO SHOW THE MUSICIANS,THE FUNK BROTHERS SOME LOVE FOR SO MANY OF THE GREAT MOTOWN JAMS.
The lead in opening with the drums gives me goosebumps
Ditto
That's the Funk Brothers Pistol Allen on those drums, and Jack Ashford on the tambourine/percussion/vibes.
Me too
@@iamladeegee8032 Benny Benjamin on drums.

The Funk Brothers showing off again in all this was soul to me!!!! Papa Zita Benjamin doing his thing. Our music is just from heaven itself. The cuts were so dynamic that you had to be dead not to be moved by the rhythm!!!!
this music would bring everybody together...white, black, male, female, young and old This is what we all need!
+TheTRAINOR11 Talk to me?. Smile!.
+TheTRAINOR11 And this white boy agrees with you 100% and I've also developed quite a crush on all three of these stunning beauties. Women had such class back in the day. As Brian Wilson says I just wasn't made for these times.
Talk to me!. Smile!.
Yes yes YES!
Yes it would!
As a Motown fan, I love this long-playing song. How The Funk Brothers put the parts together dazzles my brilliance.
Now that is Motown.
The musicians would let loose on on Martha’s songs! Great job!! 👍🏿
Loving this extended version.
R.I.P John..You bought so much joy to so many people!!! You will be sorely missed. Keep them happy in HEAVEN, Paisano!!!
Joey, you and me have to make sure that future generations keep this groove happening
@@wobblybobengland AMEN!!!
FANTASTIC SONG ! Love black music Tamla Motown is the best for ever
Martha--you were my GLUE when I was an adolscent: the music, the lyrics-your voice, backed up by the fabulous Vandellas was the closest thing to heaven!
The
Funk Brothers must truly be the very best instrumentalists in history!
YES, we had class and style!!! Not a hair out of place, flawless makeup and gab to go with IT ALL.!!! WE carried ourselves with dignity, because we wanted respect and we got IT. BUT our mother's watched over US LIKE Hawks. Sometimes we'd catch them sleeping, but not OFTEN. For girls of the '50's and '60's's; there was quality in our MAAADDDNESS!!!😅😍😎
Amen!
Yes!! I'm proud to be a 60's girl!!
YES INDEED AMEN
Trailor1, YOU ARE sooo right. When we jammed back in the day on music like we had, there was nothing but togetherness. Our house was the place where ALL the kids hung out. The music was jamming and WE were learning the latest dance. No fighting, cursing, just having fun with each other; LIKE one big family in the NICKERSON GARDENS PROJECT IN WATTS. NO SHAME IN MY GAME. I'LL NEVER BE ASHAMED THAT I GREW UP IN THE PROJECTS. MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME SELF ESTEEM AND SELF RESPECT; AND I'M GRATEFUL!!!
+Carolyn Williams IT IS NOT ABOUT WHERE YOU COME FROM, BUT WHERE YOU PLAN TO GO. I KNOW SOME VERY SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WHO CAME OUT OF THE PROJECTS. MY WIFE IS ONE OF THEM.
Carolyn Williams.Amen to you, back then we definitely had fun, there was always one house all the kids would come hang out, do the latest dance , play our records, laugh, sing, eat our home made baloney sandwiches and kool-aid 《non of that store bought crap》just having fun and never, never. fighting like these lost kids are doing now. lord have mercy bring the ole school ways back. Thanks for the post and memories, bless you. 😉😉😚😍💜💚👍👍👍.
Carolyn Williams I grew up in the Projects also. Fun Fun Fun. Best place 2 live.
In Scotland it was called the Presbyterian housing estate.
Ramona Gardens in the house, too!
Tune, man!!
those "Funk Brothers" are something else! Excellent lyrics, "out of sight"! (it's not love that I'm running from, it's the heart ache that I know will come")
Betty and Roz are jamming!!!! I can see Roz now with that big smile while singing this in the studio...I think Rosalind’s voice was stronger than Betty’s. Roz is a soprano I believe.
There's no running away from the fact that this is a FANTASTIC reworking, mosogotam!
Mark...thank you! Your kind words and support means the world to me!!!
+mosogotam Just had a copy pressed on vinyl.Top man
Killer extended version of a dynamite record that should get played more often.
MARTHA, BETTY, and ROZ !!!
I'd rather have people happy and dancing in the street. During Covid "There is No Where to Run and No Where to Hide". God help us all.
Cynthia is my mum's name x
@@wobblybobengland th'at's cool. Does she go by "Cindy" or "Cindi" or "Cyndi". I usually go by nickname Cindi myself but my mom said I was her first "sin" (get it - Cyn).
@@cindi409 Haha, Cynth to her friends, Mum to me!
the FUNKS just ROCK THIS TUNE
MAN OH MAN! THAT DRUM INTRO GETS ME EVERY TIME.
Mama was a drummer in high school. Never knew just how good she was until one day, while standing @ the kitchen sink doing dishes, from the kitchen window, she saw our neighbor across the alley practicing on his drum. Not able to stand it any longer, Mama dropped that dishrag, ran out the kitchen door, and somehow talked the boy into surrendering his drum ! With the biggest smile on her face, she blew my 11 yr. old mind, and blew him out of the water ! I had no clue my mama was the Sheila E. of the 60's ~ Unforgettable !
Me too!!!!
Martha and vandellas come back jimmy mach
One word to say about this remix...AWESOME..
I raise my glass to you Mosogotam. I am so in awe of the magic you bring forth in this music. Carry on my brotha!
Michael....most appreciated, Sir!!!
@@mosogotam I second that! Grew up with this on the radio, have always loved it and at 60, it's still the best. Your channel always takes me back in a good way and I thank you!
Just magical all of the Motown is so great, no music will ever touch this in terms of the greatest music ever.
NEVER - EVER !! What they call music now is...well who knows what?? ???
YES INDEED AMEN
@S. Williams I grew up in Detroit as well, it was a magical time, yes I was there for the riots as well, but you sure cannot beat this music!
That aint no tambourine. They went to the factory floor and got an industrial chain to shake on the studio floor! Real talk. Genius.
I read about that😁
I honestly don't know how you do these extended versions so flawlessly...and I don't want to know. Just keep doing them, please.
Thank you, dc....very much!
I agree. I love them. They are more time to dance to the song.
dcnole I took business writing at LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE (LAC CAMPUS)!!! I know you said you didn't want to know, but I received an "A+" in that class, myself and three others had to write a cover letter advertising a ski resort in Aspen, CO. fictitious of course. It was great fun and I/we were quite proud of ourselves for we got the highest points in the class. I was Captain of the group. This was 1986. But when I was in fifth grade, I won the SPELLING BEE against TSU!!! Made it to finals, but one of my classmates WENT to D.C. for the BIG COMPETITION, NATHANIEL KNIGHT!!! ÀND WON THE TROPHY!!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS.👌👍👍
@dcnole @Mosogotam: Yes! Ditto!
Fabulous edit. Out of breath from dancing!
Marty Keller You look far too old to be dancing! :)
+marty daymude How do you know slim?. Smile!. I am 59 yrs. and running. Talk to me?. Smile!. Take care.
+marty daymude And you're a fool
Perfect extended mix. Jamerson's Precision bass rolls !
Thanks a lot, tbolt!
Saw them in '65. Can close my eyes and still see them 50 yrs later.
Love this extended mix, was a kid when they had their hey day, one of the greatest female groups ever...
Cathlean...thanks!!!
I love you one of best
One of the best. John, thank you again.
Damn the 60s were awesome . And the Funk Brothers made it so . Go Motown ! Now get Dancin Baby !
Yes, sir 😎
Good Music love this Group
Defined an era in the American music scene
I have to say that I was vigorously go-go dancing throughout this wonderful remix. Really powerful.
Thannnnnnnnks, Marrrrrrrrrks!
Susan...thanks so much for your very kind words!!!
The motor City sound was where it all started for my Northern Soul journey ✌️💯
loved the Motown sound back in the Bronx when this classic was released I was 16
The dances at Our Lady of Solace ?
OneOfTheGreatestPerformancesOfAllTime. The Baritone Sax & The Jamerson Bassline & The Piano.
Those druuuuuuums. Woooooooow. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Motown. Forever and ever. 🙋🏻♀️❤️❤️
All you motown lovers, go find a copy of "standing in the shadows of motown" cd. very few folks know of this outstanding 2 hr bio of motown, spotlight on the amazing funk brothers who actually played all this fantastic music for almost 2 decades in the 1960s and 70s. We all know the stars, but they got overshadowed by everyone. Great flick and great soundtrack. And great job with all these mixes mosogotam. Excellent
I met Martha Reeves at a friends house when I was 18 years old in Hollywood, Ca.
My favorite song by Martha and Co.
Martha, I love you and have loved you since 1968.
My Birthyear 😀
I always loved the tough street sound of Martha and the Vandellas. I can see them at a large outdoor concert event....they always sounded exciting and electric !!! Can't watch without moving to the sound !!!
💐🌹💐THE MOTOWN SOUND🎼🎵🎶🎷🎺📯🥁🎻🎸🎹💐🌻💐
The Funk Brothers are swinging as hard as they are rockin' on this instrumental track...listen to the piano and bass work together under drummer Papa Zita Benjamin! Notice how H-D-H let Martha and The Vandellas rock harder than they allowed The Supremes to...entended cuts such as Mosogotam's (all the way to the band trail-out) really show this.
the late Mike Terry on sax
Nothing compares to The Funk Brothers...I can't get enough !!!
that was the band jam hard i heard they be in the studio all nite just playing
berry use to keep group and singer in the studio for months working on there song and record before puting it he wanted his sound to sound right now today it just a load of shit half ass music that want to be hot now
0:11 notice the length of those notes, but it is the repetition, to the, I dunno, 1/millionth of a bar and beyond in variance, timing tighter than a gnat's ass.
The best will remain. This song was hot in 1963. In 1979 the film "The Warriors" brought it back to us. Now that is a tell.
A Great Motown Classic
This may be your best!
One thing that makes it "easier". I've always been amazed at how much better production values were for Motown than anyone else at the time. Listen especially to hard rock albums from the same time and for the most part they're awful. Thanks for these!
True,it sounded like a bunch of teens banging on instruments in a garage and some of them WERE. 🤣
one of Martha and the Vandellas BEST. One of the top 5 in my book. This one gives me chills when I hear it. In this version I get to enjoy it for much longer. Great rendition!
Holy smokes...no one is over weight, and you can actually sing these songs!
Real music, back in day, long live Motown, and Detroit Mi.
the bass and sax are great.
still Fabulous, brings back memories !
Ahhh, the Funk Brothers... the driving force behind the success of more than an artist or two during the golden age of Motown.
Oohhh My Goodness! Love it!
Nowhere to Run Jimmy Mack and Dancing in the Street are Martha and the Vandellas masterpieces
Yes when you heard this beat of music and Martha with the Ladies.💯♥️🕺💃Dance!
the good funk! thanks!
I LOVE THIS SONG, THANK YOU FOR SHARING, AND I LOVE YOUR EXTENDED VERSION.
We have to find a way to get back to this !
Go Head Motown This Is Awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! No Where To Run From This Soul Music!
In light of all the craziness in today's world, we have to somehow get back to the mindset of these times. The 60's were a very turbulent time period and I think a lot of the music helped people get through those times.
Absolutely
Straight up fire!!!!! Pure fire!!! Call 911!
Funk Brothers. What else can I say.
EXCELLENT BEGINNING!!!
Who are YOU!
......I am dancing like crazy now!
Back in the day baby...BACK IN THE DAY!!!
+D'Mathmoth Tutinean Burn rubber on me?, remember that song?.
Stunning version, thanks so much for this.
saw them at the uptown in PHILADELPHIA WHEN I WAS A KID,MY BIG SISTER HAD TO TAKE ME THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY SHE COULD GO.BAD FOR HER BUT GOOD FOR ME. I WAS KOOL DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT NIGHT. BEST SISTER I HAVE EVER HAD. BEEN KOOL WITH HER FOR LIFE. NEVER TOLD AND NEVER WILL LOL
Read this story last night, and gave it a thumbs up. had to come back to it this morning. It's absolutely adorable, all of it, just precious in every way possible. The kind of story that makes you want to hear more about it, you know..... the details and stuff about that night....... Oh well, it was good of you to share it with us, and thanks so much for posting it. brought back a few good memories as well, and that's always good.( one more thing sweetie, your momma knew something went down in the deal that night, and decided not to say anything about it herself. at any rate, MY MONEY'S ON MOMMA) 😜😜
I love this song! Reminds me of growing up in the 60's. I used to dance to this when I was a little girl. Awesome song... awesome group!
Man I love Martha & her Vandellas.
I never could get enough of this song, this extended version is dy-no-mite!
One of the greatest songs produced of Motown. This version proves it. Martha Reeves, Brenda Holloway, and Gladys Knight were the best femaie singers at Motown. Thank you for this remix!
Thanks Cleoharvey~!
AMEN!!!
cleoharvey I agree! Would like to add Mary Wells too!
I love how The Funk Brothers applied their talents into enhancing short songs into wholesome music. There is no music like good-old music.
I have say I think Diana Ross and Mary Wilson should be added to this list if not as a Group i.e The Supremes or individual
Such a great version. Thanks so much. Can't sit still.
+goodcatholicboy Thanks for this...glad your checking out my versions!
💐🌻🌷🌺🌹🌼I REMEMBER MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS🌼🌹🥀🌷🌻💐
Funk Brothers, greatest musicians ever.
Along with a tambourine and drums, snow chains - the kind made for tires - were used as percussion for this song. Motown producers often got inventive in the studio, resulting in some unique soundscapes.
Positively💯
MOTOWN IS ETERNAL!! Thanks for these memories, best times of my life!
I like the pictures you use of the group. Beautiful talented women.
Martha, Roz, and Betty!
Martha AND THE VANDELLAS ,had a lot of soul...their music continues to be great.
