Numbers 16:1 Now Korah [Korach ] the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men. 2 And they rose up before Moses, with a number of the people of Israel, 250 chiefs of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men. 3 They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! For all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?” 4 When Moses heard it, he fell on his face, 5 and he said to Korah and all his company, “In the morning the Lord will show who is His, and who is holy, and will bring him near to Him. The one whom he chooses He will bring near to Him. TLV
HOW TO LEARN TO BE A LEADER THAT CAN BE GUIDED:
1. HONOR LEADERSHIP AND GUARD YOUR ANOINTING
Numbers 16:6 Do this, Korah and your whole following! Take for yourselves censers. 7... Tomorrow the man that Adonai chooses will be the holy one! You sons of Levi are the ones who have gone too far!” TLV
Exodus 30:30 “Put the OIL on [ANOINT] Aaron and his sons to give them for service to me [consecrate; sanctify them], that they may serve me as priests. 31... for service to God [for ANOINTING]. EXB
1 Timothy 5:22 Think carefully before you [quickly or hastily] appoint someone to LEADERSHIP [ LAY YOUR HANDS on anyone - 4:14]; and don’t share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. EXB
1 Timothy 4:14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was given to you through prophecy with the LAYING ON OF HANDS of the elders. TLV
Psalm 105:15 “Touch not My ANOINTED ONES, and do My PROPHETS no harm”...23 Then Israel came into Egypt, Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. 24 He made His people very fruitful, and made them more numerous than their foes. 25 He turned their hearts to hate His people, to deal shrewdly with HIS SERVANTS. 26 He sent MOSES HIS SERVANT, and AARON, whom He had chosen. 27 They performed His signs among them-miracles in the land of Ham. 1 Thessalonians 5:12 Dear brothers and sisters, HONOR those who are your LEADERS in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. 13 Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other…19 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. 20 Do not scoff at prophecies, 21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. 22 Stay away from every kind of evil. NLT
2. GUARD YOUR LIPS AND CHOOSE YOUR WORDS WISELY
Numbers 16:8 Moses also said to Korah, “Listen now, sons of Levi! 9 Isn’t it enough that the God of Israel has set you aparT...12 Then Moses sent word to call Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab. But they said, “We will not come! 13 Isn’t it enough that you brought us from a land flowing with milk and honey, only to kill us in the wilderness? And now you would lord it over us? 14 What’s more, you haven’t brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Would you now gouge out the eyes of those men? We won’t come!” TLV
LASHON HARA:
1. Miryam spoke evil against Moshe
2. The 10 spies spoke evil of the Promised Land with a negative report
3. Korach, Datan, and Aviram spoke evil about Moshe and Aaron
4. 250 Reubenites were swallowed up with them through their influence and evil tongue of gossip
Proverbs 18:6 When a FOOL’S LIPS move, a fight breaks out; it’s as if his MOUTH is begging for a beating. 7 The MOUTHS of FOOLS are their destruction, and their LIPS entrap their very SOULS. 8 Whispered GOSSIP is like a delicious first course: it is devoured with pleasure and penetrates deeply…21 WORDS HAVE POWER in matters of life and death, and those who love them will savor [KJV:”eat”] their fruit. 1 Peter 3:9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t snap back at those who SAY UNKIND THINGS about you. Instead, PRAY for God’s help for them, for we are to be KIND to others, and God will bless us for it. 10 If you want a happy, good life, keep CONTROL of your TONGUE, and GUARD YOUR LIPS from telling lies. 11 Turn away from EVIL and do GOOD. Try to live in peace even if you must run after it to catch and hold it! TLB

3. WALK IN THE SPIRIT AND LET THE HOLY SPIRIT LEAD
Numbers 16:25 Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram.... 31 As soon as he finished saying all these things, the ground split under them. 32 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them... TLV
Psalm 106:17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the assembly of Abiram. 18 Fire blazed throughout their assembly; flames consumed the wicked. HCSB
