I teach Scratch to kids and that problem that you can’t type happens quite often on Windows. Just need to type anywhere outside Scratch and come back to it and it would be fine. I have to remind this to kids a zillion times otherwise they really get frustrated.

I wouldn't reccomend using the app actually, I prefer using the website it's less buggy from what I've seen. But if you can also use turbo warp which is scratch but with more features and better performances
