    Update
This video shows the CSW 2.5 but I have since purchased a DD1 and it works flawlessly on 100%. No flex at all. Will post at some point:

FYI for the DD1 to fit, you need to drill new holes to the left/right of the centre hole on the Playseat Challenge wheel plate (it has to be reverse to fit Fanatec). This way, you get the front three holes on the DD1 attached the seat (I jam a piece of plastic between the DD1 and the wheel plate to get rid of any flex - if you mount it normally to the Playseat the DD1 extends to close to your body. If you mount it further back, it doesn't work properly because the stupid piping gets in the way of the mount holes).

My second iteration of my stability mod. I'm going to call it the "Raj" mod in case it catches on :)
See link below for details on how to make:

Note : You need to mount the wheel plate backwards for this to work as is (and then drill holes to the left/right of the front centre hole if you want to mount the DD1).

I followed your build and I must say, it is great! I have a few points to add:
-I bought the size B swivel clamp for the left side as it's barely 1mm to small for the plastic on the PlaySeat, but the plastic is soft enough that I could tap the clamp with a hammer or spin it to slide it over
-It can be quite difficulty to correctly arrange and align the bars and joints at correct positions and angles, so I recommend iterating, making small improvements one joint at a time to get closer to a planar bracket
-My swivel joints had a bit of slack in the joints, and as a result they would rattle when switching between tensile and compressive support. To alleviate this I simply used to zip ties wrapping over the horizontal top bar and tying to the adjustment strap mounts on the PlaySeat. I tightened these such that when the bar is lifted into position the zipties are pulled taught and act to preload the bracket into permenant compressive support. If when driving I could still easily rattle the hinges I'd drop the bar down to loosen the zipties then tighten them both one click, then lift the bar into position and test again
-I would highly recommend using locktite on all the bolts, otherwise they most likely will vibrate loose over time, especially with a DD wheel
-Now my Playseat Challenge has as little wheel flex as some racecars (I remember an F1 race from the last 20 years where a driver placed his hand on his wheel and you could see it visibly dip slightly), still not quite 8020 rigid, but certainly much better than stock (~10x reduction of flex, the rest is now from rotation at/before the Raj bracket)

Bonjour où avez-vous trouvé les tubes gris ?

with the whole support bracket, can you still fold up the playseat and store it?

How did this hold up after a year? I like the idea and am tempted to try it!

Hi Raj, how did you fit the swivel clamp over the right side of the rig? I can't figure out if the wheel-swing locking mechanism is supposed to be removable?

    • @alexw1681

Nevermind, finally figured it out. To anyone else struggling, the red plastic part is glued into the metal tubing. I managed to brute force it out (by pushing vertically upwards on the potruding red nub on the bottom after sliding the black plastic collar back so as not to interfere). However, knowing the construction now, you would be better to try gently heating the glue so that it softens (avoid melting the plastic though). With this done the red plastic can be removed vertically allowing the rotating collar to slide off the tubing, et voila!

Looks nice and sturdy but how are you meant to get in and out of the rig now !?!?
The great thing about the PlaySeat Challenge is that it folds away and the wheel swings out of the way to allow you to get in and out of it easily.....With your updated support, it looks like you're going to struggle getting in and out !?!?
Personally, I didn't see anything wrong with your first effort, as it still allowed the seat to perform as normal.....Unless I'm missing something !?!?

Hey man, yeah you're right. I forgot that I jump in and out (Vs tip it) so not for everyone.
Unfortunately, my first design just completely broke because the magic arms can't deal with the tension (and they just broke because of the tightness).
Folds up totally down but you're right about jumping in and out - not sure of a way around this design. Maybe some kind of quick release?

@@lia01reg post results please bud! Really want to see this setup as I need a solution that foals down. Can you also show how you get in and out? And it folded down? Thanks!

      @lia01reg  Před 3 lety +1

@@guygittins6934 sure - here are photos of it folded up/down. No pics of me getting in and out but it's not hard. I just brace myself with my arms on the arms and then hop in. I've always done it this way (didn't even consider lifting it up and down) because it's easier for me:

@@lia01reg Interesting, I'm still on 2 magic arms and going strong. I found the weak link with mine were the plastic round handles to tighten them so I removed them (just heated/melted the plastic until I could pull out the nut) so I can now just tighten the nut with a wrench. That way I can tighten much more, no re-tightening required and its much more solid.
