- I wanted to make a video about the whole Lego Star Wars UCS Venator Captain Rex minifigure fiasco. When Lego in it's promotional materials in writing stated to release a exclusive minifigure in a 650 EUR set only to completely ignore that promise and to release the same minifigure in a 15 EUR microfighter set a little while later. It's not bad that Lego made this minifigure cheaper to get for the fans, it's bad that Lego stated one thing in writing and then completely ignored it while also earning profit on Bricklink from sales on overpriced Captain Rex figures. They could have released the Captain Rex figure in altered appearance but they just put the same figure in a 15 EUR set. Also it's weird that to my knowledge Lego has not stated why they said one thing in its materials and then did the opposite.

Did you not know that most people look down on "lego investors"? How do you not understand that offering Rex to everyone is better for the fans?
Did you actually listen to the video? It's wrong to say something is exclusive, earn revenue on it and then backtrack on your words. I don't really care what people think about Lego investors. I have gotten sets that were out when I was not that big of a fan thanks to "lego investors".

I think a company shouldn't promote a minifigure as being exclusive to a set, then milking the customer who is paying for the overpriced minifigure on their secondary marketplace (Bricklink) while at the same time knowing very well that they are going to release the same minifigure months later in a set that costs ~ 43 times less.
Overall I am very happy with the product of Lego and the customer service - I think that's the main reason I was so suprised with how the Commander Rex minifigure situation was handled.

Also the 1999 tie said the stormtrooper was exclusive as well, rex was still exclusive but only for a limited time
And it's not like they advertised him as exclusive, it was in a blurb in the part of the instruction manual nobody ever reads
@@ledinyourwalls lego has done this before to the ucs gunship, they said the minifigures were exclusive and then they released the mace windu in a cheaper set, for some reason this only happens to the prequel ucs sets and not the original trilogy sets due to favouritism, legos slogan is "only the best is good enough" there is almost always something missing detail-wise from the sets, like wrong movie minifigs or just a set being overpriced bc of "exclusivity" and so on.

Seriously, Lego making the ucs Rex slightly different would’ve solved all of this. Just remove the bandage off his head since most people would probably not prefer that anyway. Named ucs figures should be exclude for what you’re paying for it
The figure was exlusive upon release, Exlusivity is not timeless. Lego didn't lie to you at all. You don't understand words.
Oh Lego knew very well what that meant and how fans of Lego SW were going to interpret it as. To me the meaning of exclusive is also very clear.

Nice video. I think Lego just prioritizes customers and fans over investors or resellers. I asked a couple people who just collect and make Star Wars armies and they are not bothered. It's really only the investors who noticed such things.
Thanks for the comment. If they hadn't claimed that the figure was exclusive to the Venator set I wouldn't have any problem. I think it's just predatory for them to claim one thing, then earn additional revenue from Bricklink on the over inflated purchases on the figure, knowing very well that they are going to release it in a 15€ microfighter set.
@@Karl-Erik-nv6cz Fair point. I have been trying to find out what Lego gets out of BrickLink other than a small cut off the top of each order. It can't be as lucrative as new sets sales. They have such a captive customer base that them marketing used Lego via BrickLink in a large way likely damages the brand and the ability to raise prices. Either way them having the "exclusive" rex in the microfighter is a scummy move.

Just so you know, instruction booklets are NOT printed on the the day of the set's release. Back in 2016, when Assault on Hoth was released, the instructions said you could pair the set up with 75054 AT-AT so "you can still replay the whole battle in style". However, because of the delay for Assault on Hoth, that AT-AT (which was released in 2014) retired a few months before the reveal. So, did LEGO lie there, or should we just take everything they say in the booklets with a grain of salt?
This is also the same company who also have at least one error on each UCS plaque.
Genuinely depressing how all you people have to entirely strawman people’s arguments to defend your multi billion dollar conglomerate who objectively did something shitty. No one was forcing them to call the figure exclusive, that was their choice and it objectively misled genuine LEGO fans. We as consumers should expect corporations to be entirely truthful on the product We are going to receive, not be forced to decipher Some vague terminology that apparently changes as the years go on.

Exactly. To be fair most of the comments come straight from users of reddits r/legocirclejerk. This video was posted there when it had like 8 views or something. What's ironic is that I am also a member of that subreddit :D I agree with them on small issues like whining over helmet holes in star wars figures but here when a large corporation knowingly misleads it's biggest fans I feel like people should have more of a spine.

The original tie fighter says that the stormtrooper is exclusive. Yet you see no one complaining about that. Admit it. You're just salty that you bought a big set only for one tiny plastic character and now people who don't have 600 dollars can have rex.
I'm not familiar with the tie fighter story. I understand I am no Mr.Beast but if you take a second to listen to the video then you will learn that I didn't buy the set or minifig.

Personally I think they should’ve at least changed the face. Have the head with the bandage exclusive to the venator. Either way though LEGO shouldn’t have put the most famous clone trooper exclusively in a $600+ set. I’m glad others, including children, can get their hands on their favorite clone trooper. If you bought the Venator only for Rex, unfortunately you’re an idiot. I understand the frustration but you should be happy that others can get a very desirable figure much cheaper than giving their organs up.

Did lego lie? Or did very few people jump the gun on easily outdated info from the instruction manual? If lego is desperate and really felt the need to come up with this scheme... they sure as hell are stupid for revealing rex microfighter so soon into venators lifespan, atleast wait till AFTER the first 2x vip sale people were waiting for to get the venator. They missed out on 99% of the people who were only buying it for the figure. People are more annoyed with these types of videos than they are of a typo in an instruction booklet at this point.

I only care about the investing side. Disregard the built new R2D2 set and the botannical sets and the newer Indiana Jones Escape from the Lost Tomb set and some Minecraft sets and etc.

Customers who spend $600+ on a lego set are some of legos best customers.. you dont trest your best customers the way lego did.. as the least they could have put the Rex mini figure in a $100-$200 set.. NOT IN A MICROSET THAT SELLS FOR $13… BAD BUSINESS LEGO..
