Can you beat Subnautica if days are 1 second long?

- I love messing around with Subnautica's code, figuring our how to mod it, and learning how it works. This time, I sped the days up to 1000x their normal speed, so that each day was 1 second long. So much more changed and broke than I expected.
From Subnautica's Steam page:
"
Descend into the depths of an alien underwater world filled with wonder and peril. Craft equipment, pilot submarines and out-smart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes, cave systems, and more - all while trying to survive.

Someone already beat me to that joke damn
The planet was just spinning really fast guys
Oh no I can hear the prime numbers screaming in my head
“We gotta build a base like yesterday” oh, you mean a second ago?
💯
I'm mainly supprised that you don't get asphyxiated instantly.
I know, I wasn't sure if oxygen use would be tied to in game time until I tried it!
"Man, it feels like it's been a year since we got here."
"it's only been 365 seconds."
" I know."
as subnautica veteran I can say that is EXACTLY how more than 9 years of subnautica look like
my first thought was... MADE IN HEAVEN!
2 things
First, this is a strain on the eye, but such a cool idea.
Second, plants are in fact not useless, but the ultimate bioreactor fuel here.
3rd, I know it sounds awefull, but: gel sacs. They don't rot, grow instantly, and provide water and food.
I made a playtrhough where 70% of my alimentation was gel sac.
And then came cyclop base
Oh that's a good point about the bioreactor.
And I had no idea gel sacks were even edible!
@@Brad_is_Brad I had no idea gel sacks *grew*!
Ah yes, two things
Gel sacks are the ultimate bioreactor fuel. You can make infinite gel sacs from a single one! If you get an exterior grow bed, plant the gel sack, then slice it twice before picking it up and replanting it, you can get infinite spores from a single one. Then I set up a gel sack farm for the bioreactor. I always do this for my secondary bases!
Glad I got this on my algorithm this is severely underrated
Thank you!
you have jojo in your profile and yet you didn't make the joke happen.
MADE IN HEAVEN!!!
I finally found a JoJo comment!! 😂😂
Fun fact about the rocket sequence and why your coordinates stayed the same (and this may make or break your entire sense of accomplishment): the rocket NEVER actually takes off. The way the game works in at least some versions is that it just spawns the entire scene around the rocket while you are affixed to the seat. It makes a miniature planet or two that moves by, and a weird light tunnel effect around the shuttle for the boosting. I believe it also just switches the sky to the nighttime skybox to simulate the darkness of space, too. You can see this if you use freecam to leave the rocket during the sequence. Yes, you NEVER leave the planet. You never truly escaped from planet 4546-B. And now you have to live with this fact, too: the fact that In the OG subnautica the ocean wins in the end.
Yes! You are 100% correct. In a future stream we watched this cut scene from the outside and saw all the debris appearing, and the planets, and the warp field of whatever it's called. So cool!
I believe the word you're looking for is "Phasegate".
Crashfish: You were alwayse two steps behind Brad.
😂
I didn't know so much was tied to the day night cycle. I thought they were seperate.
I know, right? I didn't expect so much to change.
Here's my theory as to why some actions are tied to real time while some are tied to the day cycle. The longer actions (charging batteries, growing plants, power generation) follow the day counter so that when you leave your base and unload that area, the time will be corrected when you return. The game likely records when you started the action (i.e. battery placed in charger at day 100.23), so even if it's unloaded, when you come back it will see that x time has passed and update the progress. Actions carried out directly by the player will always be loaded, so they follow real time. Not sure why the flashlight was the only tool tied to day progression though...
Oooh, clever idea!
Trying to fit the flashlight into your idea, maybe the flashlight can be put down while leaving it on? In which case, you should expect it to continue draining while you’re gone.
Even if that’s not quite right, IIRC other player-built light sources, such as the lights on the Seamoth can remain on and drain vehicle battery while you’re away. Could simply be duplicate code from one of those light sources being copied over, with no real need to change it to match other tools.
Took 67 years to escape the planet but we did it
oh good, that means I get to retire 🏝️
@@Brad_is_Brad Nope. In fact, Alterra demands you to pay back all the credits that you owe for the company materials that you used in your journey to escape the planet, and you're going to be drifting in space for MANY MANY MANY YEARS while waiting for another ship to rescue you.
@semajniomet981 so like… 3 minutes?
You can start earning back your keep as soon as you begin working for Alterra again. Which will be never, as you can't work for Alterra until you get picked up.
Perhaps the phrase "Catch 22" means something here.

This could’ve been the most days passed in one consecutive subnautica run
Time capsuls i make usualy are like 1 med kit with a photo of the exploded aurora saying "gl lol"
So to recap, the time speed up makes:
- All time-based events that happen independent of the player have already happened once you've gained control of your player
- Crash fish constantly regrow
- Food rot instantly
- Crafting instant
- Med packs constantly replenish
- Plants grow near instantly
- Flashlights die in literally one second
- The Sunbeam comes in two seconds
- Scanner rooms work instantly
- Water filtration machines not work at all
- Creature eggs hatch instantly
- Bioreactors work extremely fast
- Ion cubes respawn in a few seconds but cannot be harvested
***And ALSO*** you made it so that
- Everything that can attack will attack the second it spawns in
- The seaglide goes at ludicrous speeds
haha that sounds about right
Keep up with the amazing video mate

this kinda reminds of Interstellar where 1 hour on millers planet was 7 years back on earth. This could possibly exist in that 1 second on a planet could equal to 1 day (86,400 seconds) and well you coded subnautica to work exactly like that, and its a interesting experience
Subnautica, but in the Florida Keys after a priest discovers gravity.
Spinning speed of this planet is wild.
I heard the thing so I subscribed, liked and am now commenting.
Exactly like in real life when I take my leave of absence from work
So true...
Huh, the effects were really interesting with a high speed, makes me wonder if it'd be easier or harder if the game ran at 50% it's normal speed.
This reminds me of that movie where they are looking for someone and get trapped in a cave where a year is a second
Omg this looks so fun!
Pda pause: Are you challenging me?

4:48 if you're at the degassi island then that reaper followed you from the dunes or the back of the Aurora, if you're at the gun island then its supposed to spawn close but not right at the shallow parts.
Brad is not Brad, Brad is RAD
Omg Brad IS RAD!!
So they tied most of the game ticks to the day night cycle instead of the server process or the framerate? Interesting... Never thought of doing it like that before.
very cool brad

“can you beat Subnautica in a human lifetime when every second is one day”
4546B must be orbiting so fast its somehow became faster than light itself.
You might say it'll accelerate into the death then the rebirth of the universe!
We’re reaching heaven with this one!!!
Just a smooth 67 years to escape
In the time it took them to say "yesterday" at 4:36 3 days probably already passed, so "yesterday" is kind of a weird word to use in this sense...
