    I'm almost convinced that Steven Seagal is the greatest Method Actor of all time: He has, at no point in the last 30+ years, broken character, neither behind nor in front of the Camera. He is like a bizarro version of Kirk Lazarus from _Tropic Thunder,_ he has been the dude playing the same dude disguised as another dude... for three decades.

    If you want a ridiculous thing about a famous action movie actor.
    Jon Claude Van Dame originally played the Predator from the movie Predator, they originally wanted the Predator to look more insectoid and they planned on using special effects to make him invisible, problen was they couldn't use green screen because the jungle is green, so they made the costume red, imagine Jean Claude Van Dame running around the jungle wearing a bright red lobster costume.
    THIS REALLY HAPPENED. Thank god they changed actor and the Predator design last minute.

      I remember i saw some bts pictures and videos of the original predator design and bruhhh..ain't no way Arnold was gonna fight Dr.Zoidberg lmaooo....but it was a HUGE MISSED OPPORTUNITY to not have JCVD face off against motherfking Arnold in the actual badass Predator design cause like the Predator himself is an athletic, very quick and fast agile alien hunter from another world and with an athletic Martial Artist like Jean Claud Van Dame, that would've been greatness just seeing 2 legends interact in a movie together

    • @Mrryn
      @Mrryn Před 2 lety +6

      Yeah, pretty sure it was brought up on the Renegade channel when they did their reaction video on this Jontron episode. He basically told Gene LeBell to put him in a hold because he had a guaranteed escape. So Gene did, put him in basically a standing guillotine iirc...and Steven's escape maneuver didn't work, he didn't tap, Gene held the hold and put him to sleep.
      Such a wonderful example of an instant karma story that's woefully lacking in Mr. Segal's life of deluded arrogance. lol

    A lot of the locks and holds from Aikido can be useful, but very situational. Unfortunately, its bad reputation comes from the number of con-artists that have coopted its name. In short, if someone tries to convince you that they can knock you over with their "energy" or that the kinds of demonstrations that Seagal does are "real"...walk away. Otherwise, there are good techniques to be learned from it provided it's not one of the many bullshit artists trying to sell it.

    • @arcojin-carlosh.9435
      @arcojin-carlosh.9435 Před 2 lety +8

      The less combat focused techniques can be useful as well. Since Aikido literally means "Way of Harmonizing Energy" it also teaches some, i guess, "therapeutic" techniques. For example, I usually don't like to go out of my safe space, but some time after starting the aikido classes i found myself being dragged to a rappelling trip with my family. Never done it before, we were going to climb down a waterfall, it wasn't high, but i didn't know how to swim and letting myself fall, back first, was stressful to say the least. But in the end, thanks to some of things i learned in my classes, i actually did better than most of my family, and somehow calmed myself down as soon as i "fell" to be able to climb down, and did it again a few more times (I'm speaking based on my sensei's teachings, don't know how much he used from other martial arts, or just from being a dentist)

    In high school I had more friends than I ever had in middle school. I was a nerd, and my friends were nerds, and we all I think we're pretty chill for the most part. I felt like the biggest butthole in my group considering I still had complexes from middle school (at least for my first two years). I miss high school, but while I barely had any people pick on me, there was a few. Granted, not the worst as most of them were way nicer than the middle schoolers that did pick on me, but generally I think the people I befriended in high school were chill.

    Okay, his Aikido credentials are legitimate. And a lot of what people look at and think of as over acting in the falling is because they're trained to roll through falls. They are going to the ground largely of their own accord yes, but that's because they're trained to to do that rather than just face plant, so it ends up looking exaggerated because they're literally rolling through the fall. And some of the more egregious examples is JUST falling practice, students being signaled to fall properly at a moments notice.
