Prague's Dirty Secrets - The Truth about one of the Most Romantic Cities in Europe

  • Hi guys!
    In this video, we are going to share what Dirty Secrets Prague's streets hide. We feel, that sometimes Prague travelers see this city only as a superficially romantic destination with pretty houses, narrow streets, and cute cafes. While Prague is all of these things, it is also much more than that! Prague is a city with a rich and complex history, that saw wars, plague epidemics, occupations, but also victories, celebrations, and triumphs. Most importantly, Prague's history is comprised of peoples' life stories and we all know that nobody's life is perfect. So let's have a look at the side of Prague that normally gets swept under the 1000-year-old carpet. Let's see what Dirty Secrets Prague is hiding from us.

    I stayed in Prague for about two weeks in 2014, after working at the Sochi Paralympics. I was waiting on a new Russian Visa to go visit friends, so I was working through the Russian Bureaucracy and had to find a place I could stay while waiting for it. It turned out to be a really good choice, and one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. I wish I had taken the time to learn a bit more Czech, but I got by with English, Russian, and German. Excellent presentation!

    • @RealPragueGuides
      @RealPragueGuides  Před 3 lety +4

      Thank you! Czech is not easy but if you know German and Russian then you would be able to say some Czech words already. Some Czech words come from German, like "auto" and some Czech words are similar to Russian, other than that Czech has a lot of unique sounds, the biggest obstacle for foreigners who live here. Try "ř" at home :)

    • @rickbowers7292
      @rickbowers7292 Před 2 lety +4

      @@RealPragueGuides I agree, it is difficult, and I did (fortunately) run into some Russian and German speakers. I was able to say, "Mluvite angliski?, "Mluvite Russki", Ne mluvim Czeski", and Dekuji" (I'm sure I'm butchering the spelling, but they understood me). I made the mistake of telling a man who approached me "Не говорю по-ческий" only to have him say "Хорошо! Мы говорим по-русский!". He said "see you later (до встречи) then came back the next day. He turned out to be a con-man and I had a tough time getting rid of him.

    I only went for the architecture and the history. It was the wife who actually wanted to go there.. never realised it was talked about in the same vein as Paris or Rome for "Romance". Is that why the Ape has huge golden balls? ;-)

      @@RealPragueGuides *.... I 've never been in Prague. Once, during the time of communism in our countries, I visited Bratislava for a week with my rock-band. Definitely, Prague & Budapest they are both on my list to visit, when I am gonna be back to Warszawa. Funny thing is.... that I was raised in Warszawa on the right side of the Wisla River, in the district called PRAGA, where the cinema-theater PRAHA is still located up for today !!!! No kidding !!!! I lived there a half of my life !!!! :o) Special greetings to you dear Valery. Personally, I adore you for your intellect and also for your multilingualism - I mean it !!!!
